It is very cheap thats why its so brutal .. 6gb vram 1060 was literly 20usd more expensive then its 3gb1060 sister back in day. Vram capacity is the most efficent way to get visual improvements if your chip is powerful enought to handle it (its data storage for gpus calculations) its working like that last 25 years. Its just scamming people without expyrience. In this case even 4080 for 1200usd with only 16gb of vram is rip off. i am quite sure it will start to cause bottleneck in this kind of harware 2years later. Same as 3080 righ now with 10gb which is still less then faster rendering on console where PS5 can offer16gb and can use 12gb in this purpoouse more efficently then pc.

The thing is that with the bus width those cards have, they can't have more GDDR6(X) VRAM without cutting the bandwidth in half.
A 192 bit bus can have up to 6x GDDR6 (X) chips running at 32 bit bandwidth, and Gddr6(X) max out at 2GB per chip, thus a maximum of 12GB VRAM
Why did they make the bus width smaller? They didn't they shifted up the naming scheme by 1-1.5x tiers.

Sadly I agree, the memory bus was shrunk (thus it doesn't help if you have tons of memory, if you can't access it in a speedy maner!), the memory size for most cards sucks, too (it's one of the things that AMD does better) and that makes the cards were un-future-proof :(
Sadly AMD is off their game (has been for years by now) as well! They haven't managed to get good performance out of their cards if you switch on ray-tracing (which is no longer new tech! Frankly it's mature technology by now!) and they also get performance by pumping more power into their cards, which means they run hot! I know AMD-Hardware is known for that (their CPUs were hotheads, too for years but they seem to have handled that, so why not with GPUs?)...so ATM you are royally screwed if you need hardware! It's expensive! Frankly I just lost my desktop PC (a Ryzen 9 5950X, 64 GB RAM etc.)...no, I don't know what's wrong with it, it's not booting anymore, no it's not the PSU (checked by borrowing one from a friend) and not the RAM either, the board also looks fine, as does the CPU...then again we had some lightning storms over the summer...so yeah, if I wanted to build a similar PC right now? Well, I am looking at 3000 Euros (!) if I want a decent graphics card (a 3090 Ti - because the 40 Series is not worth it!)...yeah, I've not had to save up for a computer in ages, this sucks!

That is why I abstained to buy any GPU for my second desktop PC. I see lots of GPU's with 8 GB VRAM. I have an RX 6600 in my first build and that has 8 GB VRAM and that is used by the last Enlisted update already sometimes to over 6 GB. Before the last update it has sitting below 4 GB of VRAM usage. So this recently bought RX 6600 is basically after one more mayor update outdated. The card runs fine but the VRAM is the limiting factor.
Thus stay away from any GPU with less than 12 GB of VRAM. Even the RX 6700 XT or RTX 3060 which have both 12 GB VRAM are basically on the smaller side already today. Even with low-mid Tier games like Enlisted. Do never buy any GPU with 8 GB of VRAM. Even basica Windows 11 tasks as now writing this comment uses up over 1 GB of the RX 6600 VRAM.
With each update games can make your till now decent VRAM card to small. That is an combination of bad game optimization and to small VRAM built into the graphic cards.
Just do not buy any GPU anymore at all.

Here's a thought on another perspective. NVidia is forcing the manufacturers to bring down the card prices since it knows people took advantage of the pricing during the pandemic. That is why RTX 4070 is being priced at $599 only, way below the expected $799. Have you ever thought that game developers are getting lazy in optimizing their games? This is evident that there are now games that are 20-30GB in file size but are not so much visually appealing. Video rams are used by objects that are displayed in your screen, game developers can always find a way to optimize them since it is all about how they will implement the optimization. They have become lazy at this due to the increasing internet speed and lowering storage price. Ever thought that maybe NVidia is just forcing the game developers to come up creative solutions to make 8GB fit their game so that more people can still buy mid-tier cards at affordable prices?

I would add one more important thing. It's not only NV neglecting mid and low tier gpu, where I do believe most of their fans look their products. This is also a tier for the most overprized gpu nowadays. Yes, pushing clients to spend more to have more resonable power of gpu. But what they actually do is making the product older on start. Imagine paying 400-500$ for a card and in a year or 2 seeing You cannot play any more normally because there is not enough ram. Some users additionaly will change a monitor in this time. Probably if they had 1080, most of them will buy 1440 as a new one... Normally you would have this card for at least 3-5 year paying for mid tier card, now You will be forced to rebuy next gpu in half of the way...

Hopefully intel's battlemage going to change the scene next year, until then, not gonna buy scammer prices. I can even wait until 3nm, even better (+15% cost vs +40% capacity, in theory, price should go down, but will not/never happen as long as people continue to buy expensive shit, but no worries, if we go in a deep recession or depression, you won't be able to afford regardless and everyone having bought at scammer prices to maintain mr x's leather jacket will feel real stupid for the rest of their lives). /Rant

RTX 4070 comes with 12Gb and that's enough.

It's enough for now, but in few years it will be obsolete

No, beacause most Demand game eat 12.5gb or 13gb of vram. Like RE4 remake, Star wars, The new Starfield, and all 2023/24 games 12gb of vram is not enough .4070 perfrom worst than 6800xt a 2020 GPU.
