The biggest benefit to VR is the depth perception and the three-dimensional space that it creates around you. Visually it actually puts you inside of the vehicle. So that being said an eye tracker doesn’t do much for me, it’s not going to create that same immersion. I think you’re misrepresenting VR to a lot of people that haven’t tried it by comparing the two.
Depth perception is a huge benefit which I've discussed a lot on the channel, however VR still has cons which put people off and I think this brings some of the other benefits
I have had my TrackIR head tracker for years and have used it as well as using my HP Reverb VR. I used the VR more than the TrackIR. Recently, I set up a ViewSonic X2-4K projector which gives me a 4K 150 inch image on my wall. I dug out the TrackIR and mounted the receiver on the top of my racing seat BEHIND me. My seat, wheel and pedals are all attached to my NLR motion platform. The resulting experience is superb. I still use VR sometimes but the TrackIR setup is just so easy, convenient and effective, I find myself using it more and more compared to the VR. I didn't think the TrackIR would work from behind so close to my head but it works fine after a bit of fiddling with the settings. I have tried a face tracker before but had problems of having to mount it to the side which I didn't like. Also I found it didn't work in the dark whereas the infra red TrackIR does.
With Eye Beam available on steam that does head and eye tracking with any old webcam and Opentrack, I'm wondering what the benefit is of buying the Tobii?
I've never understood why we have'nt seen 3d monitors (with active glasses)on triple screen rigs. The best of all worlds. Depth perception, huge fov, no sweatly headset....Just never understood why this was never pushed harder. Sure 3d tvs were a gimmick. But in a sim rig triples situation, it would be perfect
Great to see you doing your due diligence as the Tobii Eye Tracker 5 was released in 2020, it's not a new product. Take the sponsored money and run Kireth.
They have way cheaper versions. I got my whole setup for around $40 bucks. Sadly, it's been sitting in my closet since i bought it. I tried it out for about a week, and it just doesn't work how anyone would expect it to. I mean it works but it can be finicky and im quite a bit faster with just regular triples. Maybe worth it for a single monitor.
Using open track you can mount it on the top of your monitor, but you need to point the tobii device more down . Im using it this way in miltiple sims like star citizen, ets2, msfs2024 etc. Currenlty not yet using in racing games because i havent found the sweet spot of headmovement without getting motion sick which is odd because i dint have that issue in the other games
I have the same thing with a webcam and free software ....you only need head tracking not eye tracking. which allows you to look at things without it moving the image . Tobii is crazy expensive for something you can do for almost nothing .
The greatest benefit is depth perception VR. However the VR experience is unparelleled. Get a quest 3. Dont fall for this sponsored reviewed product placement.
This is great and all ..but for 223pounds its an overkill considering u can get similar results for around 20 Dollars or even less❤..Great Product though
No i mean u can get u a webcam nd use open track ..or use ur phone with open track …or now that u can use ur phone as vr on vr box with iriun vr .theres that too..theres lotta options that makes it not worth it to buy TRACKIR OR ANY EYE OR Face rack DEVICES with that amount of money…unless u investing in proper VR
This is Track IR… Nothing like VR or give your any of the advantages of VR like depth perception.

Fun fact: You can do this with an old xbox kinect v1 or v2. Uses the same free opentrack software.
I built my setup for around £30
I am absolutely looking into this. Thanks for posting that.
This is a replacement for triples not VR
Who remembers the head tracking in PS3 with the Eye webcam? It was on GT5 or Prologue.

I'm not familiar with Eye Beam but the Tobii is quite wide. Maybe that helps with tracking
@Kireth *Beam Eye Tracker. If the Tobii improves latency and accuracy, then perhaps it's worth the hefty price tag. Hard to know not having tried it!
Seems like a comparison would be a good video!
Gran turismo 5 did it with the play station cam.

you can do this free with an old webcam and software

Would you make a video of how you set up the Tobii? I would be interested in that
Hi
I’m new to GT7
What is OP ?
I hear it being referred to often
Karl Gosling also reviewed the Tobii, and his general feeling was very positive toward it.
Interesting. Once set up it (and in my case the effects made more subtle) it feels very intuitive
It’s basically track IR just more natural and Realistic
What about when using it with motion actuators???
I love VR. MERRY CHRISTMAS 🙏
If you split the sensors to the sides of the monitor it should work well and it would be out of the way.
Good point. This would require disassembling the product though?
@@Kireth I was hoping we wouldn't have to do it. I should have said, "if THEY split the sensors..."
Is het mogelijk om kinect te testen met deze software dat zal veel Racers kunnen helpen Grz Paul
I wonder if it would work with 160" projector screen.
If you have the neck of an owl

You can indeed use the Kinect with this software, but it can be quite cpu hungry and prefers lower light situations. Search for "Kinect Opentrack"

Does it work on console
I don't think so but I could be wrong. I had to install a couple of programs on PC
Gran Turismo 5 done this on the PS3 with the playstation eye eye camera, was not good then... is not good now
The software work with a norml webcam or 2 cams.
If modern gaming wasn’t so expensive everyone would be using it as a hobby
This on ultra wides would be interesting
Triples for the win. MSI 27” QHD 170hz monitors only USD $150/ea during the holidays.
Nice. How close do you have the central monitor compared to mine in the video here?
Nothing like VR
In the Next Video: Kireth mounts a monitor and Tobi eye tracker to his Roto VR explorer...
...and sets a new monitor 0-60 mph world record 😂
Bro imagine 😅😅😅
Pretty misleading title, as this is not even close to vr.😕
I have Track IR. This is more or less the same thing. Nothing really new.
What about the lazy eye’d folks!!? ( don’t laugh )
Not compatible with Romesh Ranganathan
Wish you could get that to work with GT7 on the playstation 5
Unfortunately I suspect this is not possible!
I wish people wouldn't support garbage platforms and garbage games
Tell me about same thing with the FIA giving the F1 license to EA so they can make the worst f1 games in history.
Not compatible with console though so a HUGE deal breaker

Damn what's the setup for that?
Track Ir 1 or something
@@F1MercedesHamFan44 i think the original poster missed a zero cause that TrackIR device is not "20 dollar"

Well What I meant was the first Track IR or Track IR 1 is probably selling for pretty low price because it’s old
Also when you’re single you can build a sim setup and not be bothered.
This is why I don’t want a girlfriend because they just want money from you and that’s it.
Exactly my thoughts when setting up the Tobii Eye Tracker 5
That’s why I wanna be single so I can play games and not have to by makeup instead.
Upgrade to triples bro
Insufficient funds bro 😅
What a stupid statement
