Toronto used to have a paddle boat that traveled between the mainland, and the islands in lake ontario. I remember riding it as a kid.

Yes rod, you are correct. It is the River Nurray flag displayed on almost all paddle wheelers and ships that ply the Murray

There are 2 flags used on the Murray River. The one used here is the Upper Murray Flag. The other flag is the Lower Murray flag, and that is used nearer to South Australia.

Hi Rod, this has some great paddle steamer audio. I can see from your comment below that this was added in later due to high wind? Did you record the paddle steamer whistles? I'd like to include a few of these in a soundscape I'm working on - it would be great to discuss this further and find out more about the audio.

Great memories for local viewers, and a wonderful image of Australia and the Murray for overseas viewers. Yes: that is an upper Murray flag. The demarcation with lower is Wentworth, where the Darling joins. The stripes supposedly represent the major tributaries (Goulburn, Edwards, Wakool, Murrumbidgee and Darling were all navigable, seasonally; the upper Darling runs under a different name in Queensland). Pevensey is restored. Emmylou is 1980s, and modern materials, but vintage steam equipment and traditional style. Both appeared in the miniseries 'All the rivers run'. (Roderick Smith; my but the googlemail account is showing a wrong name).

@wmralder The only info that comes to hand quickly is that it is the Murray River flag.

@Lapune The truth is that there was a howling wind during most of the shoot. A lot of sound editing took place to get the paddle wheels sloshing in all the right places and..........the parrots and galahs were recorded in that same spot the previous day.

Not being familiar with Australian flags, what does the flag on the bow represent? Also, I love the sound of steam whistles, one of them sounds much like the whistles on North American steam locomotives.

there is no way the whistle at 1:39 is real! the actual sound of the whistle is but how it ends is not, it would not cut like 1:45 as its not possible,it would echo a tiny! its edited in i think

Wasn't it nice of the galahs to make such an accompaniment to your video.
