YES THEY DO. Wanted 350$ from me a year to keep an A rating. I’ve never been a member and they called me out of the blue. It’s a joke. It’s money generation while deceiving people base on a name

The BBB has not completely resolved issues with their grading system. They still require submission of documents and replying to their demands. This is against the law. They are NOT a government organization and never have been. For over 100 years, they have used the word "BUREAU" in their name and that confuses consumers. In their own words, 'bureau' means government. That tricks users into thinking they are a government agency. Again, they are not. Additionally, they do not disclose their ties to any government organization.
Their system remains deceptive and unhelpful to consumers and unfair to businesses. They do not properly verify information and their overall system contains a large amount of inaccurate and unreliable information. And, they continue to write favorable reviews for paying members.
18 U.S. Code § 912 - Officer or employee of the United States
Whoever falsely assumes or pretends to be an officer or employee acting under the authority of the United States or any department, agency or officer thereof, and acts as such, or in such pretended character demands or obtains any money, paper, document, or thing of value, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.

A couple of things to point out from this 2010 story- 1.) This happened at 1 out of the 100+ BBB's around the nation. Any company/organization/police department can hire employees who don't follow policy. BBB acted fired the entire LA BBB, and fixed the problem. 2.). ABC's Brian Ross has since been fired for reporting inaccurate stories. Several things in this story were not reported fairly or accurate. 3.). The BBB does NOT give special treatment to celebrities like WolfGang Puck, he can respond to his complaints just like anyone else. He was never eligible to join. 4.) ABC news stations around the United States have continued to use the BBB as a valuable resource in news stories.. So I guess ABC does not even believe their story.
