- I love using balloons to make artwork! I am in love with these Autumn colors too. Such a fun process with so many different possibilities! Thank you to Becky Monaghan for the inspiration!

Pouring medium: floetrol and gloss medium varnish 70/30; 1part paint to 3 parts pouring medium

Just beautiful! It reminds me of dancing butterflies 🦋 I have a palm sander and a random orbital sander. To get a really fine sanded surface, I prefer the random orbital sander. The palm sander isn’t that forgiving, and can give you routs, or gouges in the wood. The ro sander “blends” better (to me).
This looks like so much fun! Imagine your circle as a small table on a porch with a could of ice cream chairs in the summer!

Love your color choices 😍 ! For your instinct of wanting to use the lovely paint left on the balloon, I have a bunch of 4 inch plain tiles cleaned and stacked, pre-painted with odds and ends of leftover base paint just for this situation! "Kiss" the tiles, ta da! Instant coasters! BTW, if you haven't seen Gilly Kube videos, she's the queen of balloon kisses!

I like the unusual shape of the finished project 🙂. I see an interesting combo of an hour glass up top and a flairing flamenco skirt at the bottom. I think a series of the same shape (with a smidge more negative space 😜), with different palettes, would be interesting! 😊

Awesome and inspiring work! I find it great that, you decided to go with a wooden canvas!! My journey into the art world began, with wood burning art!! I'm always looking for tips, and inspiration, to become a better artist!!! I'm just now, getting into abstract art, and I love it!!! Since I started with wood canvases, I mostly stick with them!!! Also, I usually make my own wood canvases, using pallets, or other reclaimed materials!!!! Using recycled materials, saves, me some money, and it help turns junk into something new!!!! So much fun. I can understand going over board a bit.
This is so pretty, I think the white sections play a very important part, by elevating all the colours, so amazing!..balloon dips are incredible..Nice one Molly!
A couple of things that might help with prepping your boards. Try a Dremel sander. Sand your raw board to help with the graining. When sealers, paints, and stains are applied to woods it will often 'raise' the grain of the wood some. Instead of using a brush, try using a small (3") foam roller when applying your sealer and gesso. If you are 'thinning' any of your products continue to do so. If you put your roller in water right after use, you can clean and reuse it and clean the roller tray as soon as possible. Then continue to sand between each layer. By using a roller you won't have as much issue as with brush strokes. Use is just like you would paint a wall...don't paint just up and down or side to side to side...angle the roller to over lap previous strokes and into unpainted areas...doing this helps eliminate 'lines' and gives better coverage. Hope this helps. Love this technique.

How do you know how much paint you need? I just did my first 2 pours and I was actually happy with them, but I used a LOT of paint

Hi Molly. Rinska Douna scrapes off mistakes and then covers the space with the background colour so you could do that when you venture accidentally into your negative space. I also thought that dabbing off the balloon onto paper could create really lovely wrapping paper. Even tissue paper might work. Gonna give this a try. Thanks so much for your post
