HULKMAN 85S VS. NOCO GB70 (HEAD-TO-HEAD on V8)

  • The Hulkman 85S & Noco GB70 square off to jump start a 2004 Cadillac Deville V8 with NorthStar system. We also brought the Hulkman 10.0 into the contest just for fun. The Noco GB70 & Hulkman 85S both have equivalent power at 2000A, can you guess which portable jump starter performed better, or maybe there was no difference at all between the Noco GB70 & Hulkman 85S........watch to find out!
    And keep in mind, we brought the Hulkman 10.0 with 4000A into the video just to spice it up a little. We are aware that the Hulkman 10.0 has double the amperage as the Noco GB70 & Hulkman 85S, so we know it's NOT a fair comparison, but we did it just to see the difference in performance, if its noticeable.
    Also, please be aware that in the actual Noco GB70 manual it states that if the battery indicator lights are chasing after the Noco is hooked up to the bad battery, there is NO need to press the boost button, because the Noco GB70 senses there is enough voltage in the battery to jump start (above 7 volts=partially dead battery). Now if the Noco GB70 battery indicator lights are NOT chasing (solid lights), that means the Noco can't sense a battery because the voltage of the battery is too low (below 7 volts=almost completely dead battery, as a result you MUST push the boost button in order to jump start successfully.
    Also, when you push the Boost button in any situation on your Noco portable jump starter, you are just disabling the security features so that your Noco will deliver constant power with no interruptions. The Noco does not deliver an abundance of extra power like many people seem to think. But keep in mind, when you push that boost button there is live power, reverse polarity and all other security features are bypassed, so be very careful. I just wanted to clarify a few misconceptions people may have about the Noco GB70.

    According to the Noco GB70 owner's manual, you do NOT need to push the boost button if the Noco GB70 battery indicator lights are chasing. When the battery indicator lights are chasing that means your Noco senses that there is enough voltage in your battery to jump start, WITHOUT pushing the boost button. Now when your Noco GB70 battery indicator lights are NOT chasing, that means your Noco GB70 does NOT sense that there is a battery because the voltage is too low, as a result you will need to push the boost button in order to bypass the security features so your Noco GB70 will deliver full power to your battery and jump start your vehicle (all security features will be disabled--live power at all times). We have had some commenters say I didn't push the boost button and that's the reason the Noco GB70 didn't work, which is not the case. If you noticed in the video when I hooked up the Noco GB70, the power indicator lights were chasing, and you can physically hear the relay inside the Noco GB70 clicking on every few seconds proving that the Noco GB70 was delivering power, therefore pushing the boost button was NOT necessary. Also, we have countless videos showing the Noco GB70 is not able to jump start the Cadillac V8 whether the Boost button is pushed or not. That's the reason I wanted to explain how Noco products work so people will understand why pushing the boost button in that situation was not necessary, and even if we did push the boost button, the vehicle still wouldn't have jump started. We absolutely love our Noco GB70, but for whatever reason it is hit or miss on our 2004 Cadillac Deville V8. We know our Noco GB70 is not defective, because it works great on every other vehicle, we have tried it on, except the 2004 Caddy. We seem to think there is compatibility issues with the Noco GB70 and the 2004 Cadillac Deville V8 with NorthStar System.
    We hope this explanation helps, have a great day.

    I bought the GB70 and a carrying case for it several years ago after reading all the reviews and doing a lot of research. I live in a state where the snow is deep and the temps plummet at night. Unless you can plug your car in at night, it can be difficult to start it in the morning, even for batteries with the highest CCA. The GB70 has never failed me and will take on more than I could ever put it thru. It's the best purchase you will ever make. It's very portable and easy to use. It's also safer to use as well if you accidentally hook up the wrong connections, unless of course you put it into override, in which case it will do you good to check your connections. I was able to do a number of jumps with it and it would still show a full charge. I didn't use it for a full year one time and when I checked it to see if I needed to charge it, it still had a full charge. I used to haul around one of those huge, heavy, lead acid battery ones that were a pain in the ass. You had to constantly keep recharging them after one or two jumps or check them for a full charge before you could use them if you let them set for longer than a couple of weeks. Plus, their life expectancy was short lived after recharging them so many times. I love the GB70 and will buy another one when it comes time to. When that will be, I honestly can't say. It is still performing just as strong as the day I received it several years ago.

    I think you should of clicked the override button on the Noco like you did on the hulkman it uses the same technology that won't start working on a battery that low automatically hence the override button. Or a video of the hulkman starting the car without pressing the override button. I have started a completely dead 6.0 ford diesel with the gb70. In your video the noco didn't even crank or turn over the engine in the car, showing it wasn't powering anything.

    • @HM_RELOADED
      @HM_RELOADED  2 года назад +2

      When the lights are chasing on the Noco GB70 you are not supposed to hit the Boost button. When the lights are chasing on the Noco it means the unit is ready to Jumpstart your vehicle with no Boost necessary. If you listen closely after i hooked up the Noco GB70 and the lights were chasing you hear the clicking module inside the Noco showing the unit was producing power, just not enough unfortunately. Watch some of our other videos with the Noco GB70 when the unit didn't recognize that their was a battery since the battery was super low, only then are you supposed to push the Boost mode. And in those other videos you will see us push the Boost on the Noco GB70 and it still couldn't start the V8 at times. Noco GB70 is a good unit but it struggles starting my Caddy V8. In some videos the Noco GB70 would start the V8, other times it would just cause a clicking sound, other times there was nothing. The Noco GB70 works perfectly on my 4 & 6L, and some small V8 vehicles in my fleet, so u know it's not a defective Noco GB70. It's just hit or miss on larger V8 vehicles. Because keep in mind the package says the Noco GB70 jump starts Up to 8.0 liter gasoline vehicles. We do appreciate your feedback though.

Now if the lights were NOT chasing on the unit that means the unit does not detect any voltage on the battery, then you must push the Boost button in order to get enough power to jump start. Also, when I hooked up the Noco GB70 to the connections to the battery, the lights were chasing on the unit, and you could hear the module inside the unit clicking to show that there was power being produced. Also, the white light on the unit was illuminated when the Noco GB70 was hooked up showing there was power being produced once again. Just wanted to clarify how the Noco is supposed to work. I understand what you are saying, but the portable jump starters on the market today have many protections that protect the user from injury, These portable jump starters with smart cables make it just about impossible for anything to happen whether I hook up the positive or negative cable first, it doesn't matter according to specs, manuals. Other mechanics have told me it doesn't matter which cable you hook up first since most of these portable jump starters have smart cables with zero spark, reverse polarity protection, ETC. You could even touch the black and red cables together, and no sparkage happens unless the Boost button is activated. Now, if I was using regular old school jumper cables, you are absolutely correct about hooking up the positive cable first, since the old school cables have no protections to protect the user. But that's the great thing about alot of these portable jump starters on the market today. They really protect you from the unexpected. Thank you very much for looking out for me. Have a great day

Also, I pushed the boost on & off camera in many videos over and over and the Noco GB70 is hit or miss only on my 2004 Caddy V8 for whatever reason, the Noco works on just about every other vehicle I have tried it on. Thanks for the comment

    You never did the override on the noco 😂..

      If the lights are chasing on the Noco that means it detects the battery and you do not have to push the Boost button, it says the exact same thing in the instructions. The only time you must pust the Boost or override is if the Noco does not detect a battery since the battery is almost completely dead, and also if the lights are not chasing on the unit. Those are the only times you have to push the override or boost button. We have other videos showing this same Noco GB70 struggling on only the 2004 Cadilllac Deville for whatever reason, it doesn't have an issue on any other vehicle except the Caddy. Weird. Thanks for the comment

    Not a fair test, you left the light on with the NOCO unit when attempting to jump the second time....

      If you rewatch the video, you will clearly see me testing the Noco GB70, and it didn't work. This is the exact reason people should watch the whole video instead of just part of the video. Try watching from around the 2:40 mark, thats when we tried the Noco GB70. Thanks for the comment. Happy New Year

    The GB70 is 2000amp and the Hulkman 10.0 is 4000 amp rated. Of course the Hulkman is going to out perform the GB70. The Hulkman 10.0 is also twice the cost

      The Hulkman 85S which was also in this video has basically the same specs as the Noco GB70, and the Hulkman 85S was able to jump start the Caddy V8 with ease, but the Noco GB70 could not jump start for whatever reason. I was told by a few mechanics that every vehicle is different, and not all jump starters are compatible with certain vehicles, for whatever reason. For example, just because a Noco GB70 could jump start a 2004 Cadillac V8, doesn't guarantee that same exact Noco GB70 will jump start someone else's V8 model, know what I mean. Some jump starters have issues with certain vehicles. I'm not discounting Noco products, because I have a few Noco jump starters and love them, the Noco GB70 is hit or miss on my 2004 Cadillac Deville V8 for whatever reason.

    to be fair gb 70 is not the same amps or capacity as the hulkman 100/10.0 a comparable one would be the noco boost gb150 or gbx 155 . I was a die hard noco user but my gb150 posts for clamps broke the unit discharges faster only in a year of use . I was a advocate until i had to deal with their customer service and now they can kick rocks they are dismissive and rude.

      You are correct, the Hulkman 10.0 has twice the amps as Noco GB70

      You missed the point of the video, we tested both the Hulkman 10.0 (4000A), then we tested the Hulkman 85S (2000A) a few minutes later to show the difference between the Noco GB70 and Hulkman 85S & Hulkman 10.0. I appreciate your comment, have a great day.

    My hulkMan 85 didn’t last a year. They won’t help me out either. Crap product and crap service. I’d go with the other brand

      It's very unfortunate that your Hulkman didn't last too long. Luckily, our Hulkman unites have worked perfectly since the day we got them, hopefully they continue to work well. It's a shame that Hulkman didn't help you out in reference to your Hulkman unit. Good luck with which ever unit you decide to purchase. Thanks for the comment

    You didnt override the Noco

    • @HM_RELOADED
      @HM_RELOADED  9 месяцев назад +1

      You do not need to override or boost the Noco if the lights are chasing, if the lights are not chasing the unit does not recognize that its hooked up to a battery, then you need to boost or override. It says in the manual.

    man, you should really delete this video and do a new one, and pls do it correct...

      Explain what we did wrong. You are aware that when you hook up the Noco GB70 and the lights on the Noco immediately start chasing, and you hear the module/relay clicking, that means the Noco detected the battery and its ready to jump start. Now, if you hooked up the Noco GB70 and the lights were not chasing, that means the Noco does not detect a battery and you will need to push the boost/over-ride button so the security features will disable, and the Noco will deliver the power the battery needs to jump start. And everything I mentioned is in the Noco GB70 manual to back up what I say. Also, we have used the Noco GB70 and the boost button countless times on our 2004 Cadillac V8 test car, and sometimes the Noco GB70 is able to jump start it, and sometimes it can't for whatever reason. As we mention all the time, we love the Noco GB70 but it struggles on our Cadillac V8 for some reason.
