The most grimdark thing about 40k is that the traitors are fighting for a goal that their masters will never allow them to reach. If they win, they lose. In the end, they’re fighting for nothing. That means all the grim darkness in the entire setting, all that war, all that bloodshed, is ultimately caused by the misguided who are all invariably fighting for a lie. It’s all for nothing.

The traitors fight for the ultimate prize of becoming a daemon prince of Chaos. There is the revenge thing against the Imperium still going on for some, but overall they all want to become a daemon prince, become super powerful and get to chill in their own little corner of the warp. After all, you die fighting for Chaos, you're f***ed. And the Imperium managed to outlast them for 10.000 years. So not much to be had for the dying for Chaos and revenge part.

Had they been anything innovative, creative progressive or logical , every single enemy that humanity faces in the present would have been fucked up eons ago .War is the mother of all innovation but instead it does the opposite for the imperium due to its ridiculously erroneous and unique nature

My understanding of the Talisman the Emperor had Vulkan build was that it was a weapon of absolute last resort, like the terminus decree but as a deadman switch rather than a set of instructions.
That would mean it was either designed to make the heresy a no win situation-where the emperor dies and stays dead, but does so much damage to chaos that they’ll never be able to challenge the galaxy in force ever again.
Or, more likely, it was a reset button. I imagine it’s not just going to destroy terra and the Sol system, I imagine it’s going to create a loyalist eye of terror.
Imagine a warp rift and the surrounding warp space that the emperor claims as his territory, creating an inverse to the og eye of terror where the chaos legions chill.
This would allow the now spectral god like emperor, now released from the golden throne and whole once again, to have a pocket realm to store the majority of humanity in. Time and space mean fuck all to the warp, so there’s really no limit to how many people the emperor can get in there, especially if he’s able to protect them from the warps passive soul fucky energy, and the advances of chaos.
The material galaxy would essentially become a chessboard at that point, with few humans living in it.

It is likely that from the view of the Chaos Gods, especially Tzeentch, the way the Horus Heresy went down was almost the best way it could have happened. A Galaxy kept in a perpetual state of whide warfare, both humans against themselves and outsiders is how they can thrive continuesly. They may have still been upset about Horus being Ctrl+alt+delete by big E. As he made a very usefull tool for the faction.
Though this scenario becomes less firm if taken into context that its "only" one Galaxy they seemingly are interacting with. Obvious solution is that most if not all life outside is now dead or part of the Tyranid swarm.

I don't think that would happen. The chaos split into four different chaos gods is not because these gods were created by emotions. They were created because for chaos it is profitable. Chaos undivided sees eldari having huge parties and says 'Yeah, this can attract new worshippers'. So this brings us to the question of Malal. Why is he not canon? Because if chaos undivided created Malal, nobody would worship this god. Khorne gives you strength, Tzeentch power, Slaanesh sensations, Nurgle acceptance and peace. What does Malal bring to the table? Endless fighting? Khorne has it too. Risking your life every day? All chaos gods have it too. Malal can't attract new followers.

I’ve always thought that a fall of Terra might actually make a stronger Imperium. Guilliman would return to ultramar and begin securing it as the new heart of the Imperium. With help from the Eldar, the Tau (eventually), and perhaps even the Leagues of Votann Ultramar could become pretty solid. It would then be the combined Xenos and humanity vs Tyranid and Necron… unsure how that’d go… but would be a hella interesting version of 40k

That would be cringe, the tau are too subversive and the eldar won't go quietly into the night as a junior partner of the imperium

The imperium just hates everybody, hates tau for being gay, hates eldar for being too fancy etc
Necrons, tyranids and orks can't be reasoned with, same with chaos

So they are well organized and diciplined, which allows them to shed way more blood in Khorne's name than the regular deranged cultists do.
A Chaos victory would likely be a galaxy torn apart by war, with the Chaos Gods merely extending The Great Game to the physical realm rather than obliterating everything. And as we know, they do join forces as Chaos Undivided when something threatens the great game, so massve Ork Waaghs, the Tyranids and the Necrons would force them to keep humanity alive, if only for sustenance and defense against these forces.

@@ismaelsantos5378 right. I think the key here is that, ultimately, you could have a functioning mortal society that worships Chaos gods, but you couldn't have a functioning Astartes society that worships Chaos gods. The Sanguine worlds (I think that's what they were called) were no worse than imperial worlds (which still means they sucked pretty hard) in part because the mortal followers just flat out couldn't reach the levels of insane devotion they could if they were all Space Marines. Their mortal limitations sort of keep them at arms length from the chaos gods, whereas an Astartes can go full Erebus and end up wielding all kinds of power which makes you kind of forget about mortal concerns like "paperwork."

The necrons biggest advantages are adaptation and their ability to use biomass of dead enemies and other Nids alike to reform new units, meaning even killing them isn’t enough to kill them. Necrons, however, do not have biomass to take and their weapons destroy matter on an atomic level, meaning they can’t recover any soldiers. Without those advantages the nids are just glorified bugs. In fact there’s even a theory that, if they ever end WH40K, it’ll end with the necrons unifying and leaving the galaxy to fight the tyranids in intergalactic space
