Please do upto 3 layers of paint. Then you can use varnish to give it a better finish. Also use q tips to clean the edges.

Angles leather paint is very nice for that project. Prep and thin coats plus finish clear coat in whatever finish you like 👍🏼

Because chalkboard paint dries stretchy not stiff on non absorbent surfaces it doesn't crack on them like regular acrylic paint does once it's dry.
