  • Kevin O'Sullivan praises the Government after sickness and disability benefit claimants are being ordered to seek work in a bid to slash overall benefits.
    Disabled people will also be asked to work from home as part of a push to get more people back into jobs and to cut the benefits bill.
    Kev says: ''I applaud the Government for this because I don't want to undermine anxiety but we've been giving people benefits too easily".

      If you are British and don't know that the money spent on migrants are from foreign aid quota then you shouldn't be commenting. The money CANNOT be repurposed for British citizen's use.

      Completely agree, they've screwed over themselves - now entry level workers are usually worse off than if they sat at home and lived off of benefits after monthly bills and considering they would have 40+ hours a week of additional time.
      They can change the benefit system all they want it won't change the working situation - people will still go off sick leaving shortages and will simply put in the effort you pay them for.
      If companies want to see more people working then unfortunately for them they need to stick their hands in their pockets and pay regular workers more, bring CEO and director PAYE down to fairer levels, and stop paying as much out to shareholders as unfortunately investing is a risk and profit needs to be used where needed to recruit more workers to avoid overworking existing staff or again they will find workers begin to go off sick and claim sick pay.

Why not better themselves to have more finer things in life, own property, transport, hols, pension for old age. I was taught to work and save hard when your young and able as health may not be so good later on in life and if that's the case and you have saved then you can slow down more work wise. Work is a good social interaction, it gives structure, meaning and discipline even if it is tiring.

    • @Binaural_Alchemist
      @Binaural_Alchemist 9 месяцев назад +1

      That's probably because they are doing stuff on the side cash in hand. You can't afford a car on benefits, or a holiday, even buying clothes can be a struggle. Most people I would say can just about afford to pay for food and heating and whatever costs they need to put to accomodation, although recently that has become more of a struggle. I'll give you an example of how some individuals may appear no worse off than those who work and in some cases even better off. On my street is a guy who was claiming benefit, at the same time he was dealing cannabis. People would be seen regularly queuing up outside his back gate to get some weed. He's would always wear smart designer clothes and he had a few expensive breed dogs. Now however he no longer has the dogs, I haven't seen people queuing outside his property for a while and it would appear that he is actually working. I have no idea what happened but obviously some people abuse the system like that. Maybe he felt the need to claim benefit as a back up just in case he could not get the illegal drugs he needed to sell to make a profit.
      What I'm saying is don't judge everyone on benefits the same. Some people obviously know how to milk the system, then it's just like free money to add to the money they are earning illegally whether that be through drugs or jobs on the side it's still tax free. If you are not fit to work then you should not be doing any job, but even the government are allowing this under their scheme to get people back to work You can earn £167 without affecting your ESA as long as you work less than 16 hours a week, that would make you better off than a lot of people who are fit and working. Much to the governments dismay not many people have taken this up though, either out of not trusting the governments motives for allowing this, or simply because there really are so many people who are genuinely sick and feel unable to work.
      I myself have been on ESA and it's predecessor incapacity benefit for 20 years and at no point have I fiddled the system and at no point have I felt able to work. I have multiple issues both physical and mental and in fact have just recently started to get R.A most likely as a result of the other conditions. So i'll likely struggle to get out the house to do my shopping for food if it gets worse. Now somebody could offer me a job for £5,000 a week and I would not take it becuse I know I would not be able to cope. Sorry to be a burden and all that but believe me there are a lot of times I feel like I don't wont to be on this earth as the pain both mentally and physically is so draining. I am extremely grateful for the little help I get and wish I wasn't a burden on society, and trust me i would gladly swap my issues to be able to do even the most boring of jobs if I could, but I can't.

These people have had to go through a lot of health checks which you don't even consider. I only wish people were more considerate of others. Personally I have been so severely depressed in the past I couldn't get out of bed or take care of myself (wash/dress). I am a lot better now but at the time I seriously needed help. When you are that depressed, you cannot focus on anything. It's not a decision not to do things, its an incapacity. Which is why the mental health service exists.

She has been told when signing on not to bother working as it wont be worth it as they will deduct money off her benefits, despite being told she could do 16 hours a week without any deductions her part time job working 10 hours a week has seen £5 a week being deducted from her earnings. Add in the near constant pressure (read bullying) to look for jobs up to 30 hours a week. At the same time many others from the local area and many from overseas get free housing, utility bills and other hand outs having never paid tax in their lives!!!! Smug faced council workers forget who's paying their salaries and future pensions.

After two weeks here I started getting bullied by one of the directors who put up signs telling me how to ring and speak to people in front of everyone in the building due to this bullying I took a few days off sick and when I came back the next week all I had waiting for me in an envelope was £25 this company was suppose to employ and volunteer people like myself with disabilities and mental health issues yet the people running it were bullies themselves after five weeks of this I decided to walk out and leave I informed the job Centre of what happened but nothing was done I would love to work but this experience has left me with a bad taste in my mouth so much so that I have decided that I want to go self employed as an author. My support was only re-instated after a conversation by a sympathetic call centre worker. Eventually I had a successful transplant, even so I still have Kidney failure. Thankfully the pandemic arrived and they left me alone long enough to claim my state pension. Prior to my kidney failure I worked for 38 years in paid UK employment having made enough contributions for the full state pension. I cannot understand how these people are able to scam the system. I have to work full time despite two serious auto immune diseases and a mental health condition. I am in my sixties. My son who also has a serious auto immune disease and has been in intensive care twice during a flare, has to work full time despite consultants writing to say he should only work part time. I don't feel as if I could get any government help whatsoever as my illness is not consistent and changes day to day. I constantly fear that my son will wind up in intensive care again, or worse!

      well make sure your hate is directed at the government and not the people who managed to get on this total sham of a system. i feel for the people truly suffering and the DWP just palm them off, an absolute joke they are.

    Fact is there's to many "illnesses" you can be signed off for, and as for anxiety well give you 3 months off then you can go back

      I agree, anxiety, stress and depression need to be eventually looked at. You cannot state cos you have these conditions that you can never work. People need to read up and implement and put structures and coping mechanisms in place in order to cope with lifes difficulties and challenges. Lets face it if a obese person was told she was not working cos of being fat and tired people would tell them to lose weight and find health benefits that would enable you to return to the workforce not right yourself off as unemployable for years and years. I cannot believe that 15/16 hrs out of a whole week is impossible and yet still give you the rest of the days to rest.

      you had anxiety, or a proper panic attack? most people call an ambulence believing they are dying during one.
