If you can do everything in person at the dealership. Even if the dealership is asking for a down payment to hold the car, just simplely refuse and tell them that you will be in as quickly as possible, or just put $100 down on yr CC,. and likewise just walk away. You can always report scam through CC to get your refund of $100.. Don't trust anyone, even the people at the dealership over the phone. See them in person at the dealership. Best wishes and good luck!

When you are committing to buying a high ticket item like a car or house you NEVER WANT TO BUY IT ONLINE sight unseen. Pictures don't mean 💩. You have to be able to put your hand on it otherwise keep walking. Basic common sense if you ask me. Even without scammers you can be buying a car that your bad back wont be comfortable in after sitting for 20 minutes or you can be buying a car that looks great on the left side but it's banged up on the right where there's no pictures or the pictures were taken really far away.

For me, I would have no idea if the car would even be a good fit (I'm not a skinny short guy) until I can sit inside one; test driving is also a must. I can return a pair of pants if they don't fit, an SUV? Not so much!

@@Protocol15 by what measure? Scamming has a short shelf life before you have to use your brain power to come up with a new scam as the scam will only last days/weeks. To think of a scam you have to have intelligence, ingenuity, have some basic grasp of marketing (in most cases), excellent communication to close the sale/scam. If you get into the physical aspects in the car market you have to learn to fake documents, fake vins, swap vins all these are learned skills. Everything adds up and yes, someone probably made $20K to $100K off this scam. But with the skills this person has to pull this off they probably could easily make over 6 figures a year using those skills legitimately (most likely mid 6 figures if they sell high ticket items) or 7 figures using those skills, for example, starting online marketing firm. If you think they can't use these skills to make serious, legitimate, and steady income that rivals the intermittent quick hits of scams then respectfully, I say, you're wrong (and I'm going by the measure that "It's not even close" - in your words - not only is it close, I'd be willing to bet they'd make more in the long run legitimately).

I made sure the credit app was directly docu signed and sent to the finance institute, not some man in the middle. 3 Weeks later I got back from vacation and went to pick up the car and no fuss. The dealers in my area were adding 4K to the price rather than reducing the price by the tax credit. I did everything you suggested and took about 2 weeks before I wired them the money. During the pandemic a lot of dealers (used and new) would do a phone video with you and show you the car. It would allow you to see the background so you could see if it was a real dealership or not. I was looking at buying a used car in 2020 when prices 'tanked' but never pulled the trigger on a deal. To be honest with you, I would stay away from that truck you’re gonna have too many issues with the ABS systems and the engine. Especially since you’re in Phoenix any population as a high Latino. Market you will never get a truck for cheap because unfortunately a lot of them use it for work and they will pay top dollar

The best scam was at small moms and pops dealers. The customer and the dealer would charge 20k-50k extra for a car. The bank would approve selling a used c class lets say for 50k and not at 20k. And the customer would knowingly give the dealer 5k and pocket rest of the cash at a very low interest rate.

I was selling my Van on FB market, scammer from out of state wanted me to do auto background check using his auto car history check from his website he recommend. HAHAAHAH! Website requires you to sign up and enter a credit card number, but they won’t charge u for a car history check. Dude pressure me so hard. I was like, why not just do a carfax? He was like no, this website is free but requires you to input a credit card info just in case u want to do more then 5+ vehicles history check. Dude message me for weeks everyday trying to get me to sign up. I stand my ground and said go away scammer! Nope!

Buying a car without first giving it a physical inspection is, in my opinion very foolish. It amazes me that anyone would do it. Most scams only work because people are willing to blindly trust people they have never met. Most scams would end overnight if people would just take a few minutes to verify things before acting.

It is amazing how many people say that all dealers are scammers. That is a very stupid assumption. We hear horror stories about them, so that part is true. It happens in every profession, but how about the millions and millions of good stories? The good is always much bigger than the bad, otherwise 38.6 million cars used and new sold in 2022 were all robberies.

Really thought he was going to expose the discounts scam that dealerships are using to lower the online price without actually lowering the real price for those that dont qualify. I have called countless dealerships and found out i cant buy at the price i seen online if i dont have a trade or finance with them or buy extras. My nieghbor was planned to by a highlander on sat but found out he didnt qualify for 6k of discounts so the car was 3k over budget

Here is the scam: raise MSRP 30% gradually over 3 year period. Then offer 5-10% off so buyer thinks they are getting deal. Healthcare system (hospitals & Drs) have been doing it for years. Its why health insurance companies only pay them .70 - .80 cents on a dollar. You should be doing the same and if they don't accept...extend your lease until they do.
