There are so many dynamics involved between two people of the opposite sex. IMO, the first and most important aspect of chemistry between a man and woman on screen is humor. If they can genuinely make each other laugh it breaks down so many other barriers. When you see David and Gillian off screen, one of them or both seem to be always smiling. A true sign of affection and it comes across effortlessly.
There are very few connections between actors and actresses in TV series. But I Dream of Jeannie and Mad Men were rare exceptions where all the characters worked well together. Glad for you both for a sincere relationship like old classmates.

I dont think they understand how others perceive them. I do not recall many actors having this closeness. I always wanted to know what other actors thought about their close friendship. As you get older, though, you appreciate that person more. I always wondered why the relationship was complicated. Many actors would kill for a friendship like theirs. Love seems to be platonic. I'll pretend it's not. It's understandable that things end and people move on to different projects. It must be difficult and a relief at the same time. David has the most expressive eyes. They tell every emotion. It would be hard to look into them because they reveal too much. Its a wonderful ability, but they reveal everything.
