Although the kl tower structure is a little bit shorter than the twin tower, however the kl tower is sit on top of Nanas Hill which has a height of 90metre. So basically the tower is elevated higher than the twin tower.
Looks like you were in Bukit Bitang which is the best place to go at night. I think going on top of KL tower gives you a better 360 degree view of the city but Petronas Towers is great for night views. Nearby KL Tower is the Eco Forest but I don't know if it is open
when you get to penang.. you should go up the ''komtar tower'' for a drink and a fantastic view of the Penang Island.. failing that.. do try and go up ''Bukit Bendera'' on the slanted cable pulled rail-tram up to the 800+ metre mountain top..
For this part of the trip we stayed at Holiday Inn Express... great value... smaller rooms but really nice, good breakfast included and great location. I think I have link in the description
