I read your comment as I was starting to watch the program. After reading about 'Juno' I was expecting some tasty bird walking on,before seeing that Juno is a dog lol ! Nice dog though,I wonder if he named it after the beach which our Canadian brothers landed on next us on D-day.
@@BlackLotusC108 to be honest, I totally forgot about this video, so haven't really implemented the lessons yet. But thank you for putting it back on my radar! Now that I have lots of free time, I can sit and practice :)
Perfect. I was just sitting here thinking I should be less lazy this Saturday afternoon. Mike shows up to spur me to action. It’s a dog-day afternoon. I love my Reflexx pad, which I bought months ago after seeing you play it, but it’s already gathering too much dust. Time to go clean up my pad and my playing. Thanks, Mike!
A great lesson as usual. Importantly, this exercise exposes defects in holding the sticks as one switches gradually from wrist to necessary finger action to achieve speed. In my view this should have been one of my first exercises as I started to learn the drums. Never stop teaching, you are an inspiration. Regards, Peter (U.K.)
This is the first video I’ve seen by you, and you answered every single thought as they came up. I wasn’t breathing, I was beating my pad, leading with the left - gosh. Subbbbbbed
Watched the video yesterday Mike. I started at 100bpm and went up in increments of 5 until I reached my top speed at which I could sustain it for 1 min. For me, my top speed was 165, for I could not sustain 170 for a minute. So, today I started at 160 and practiced the exercise for 5 min. I will continue for 30 days, bumping up my speed by one or two points at a time until I am up to the target of 200bpm. Thank you Mike as I am looking forward to seeing how much improvement I can see over the next 30 days. I will repost my progress then. :-)
Excellent single stroke speed building exercise Mike. I love simple and effective. I have a student who has really been complaining about his left hand being dysfunctional. Tuesday I will introduce him to this lesson. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks Mike. I love this exercise. I have struggled for years and years. Embarrassingly decades , with my weak left hand. I finally couldn't take the weakness and started playing when I can, left handed. Switching up etc. But it's met with a ton of mistakes and it's not really helping me get better very quick. 2 nights doing this for 30 minutes and I feel like my arm is starting to get it. Very seldom do I find a routine that works wonders , this is one. Thanks. Oh, yeah, I'm that rock drummer beating my practice pad like it owes me money lol. 15 minutes of that, 15 dynamically .
Dude... like wow!!! I mean, just wow!! Like wow!! What a Friggin breakthrough experience this little lesson has done for me. I feel like I just took DMT ... my singles are so much more controlled and speeding up every SINGLE day!!! Thank youuuuuu 🙏🏼
“The best practice pad, is the one that makes you practice” Fucking safe advice. Just my speed. Simple, productive, straight ahead, no bullshit advice/lesson. Thanks, a ton, man🤘🏼
Really like mirroring this exercise with the feet! I've been working on double kick since quarantine started and this is really helpful for left foot-lead singles
Been doing this exercise for about 2 years now and my god what a game changer thank you so much!! Still working on my left with that being said lol probably won't ever be perfect but that's ok 😂
I just bought the Thomas Lang Practice Pad just to try something new after practicing on the Real Feel Pad over years. I also bought a pair of Military Sticks to strengthen my muscles. These two things pushed my motivation to practice into another dimension! It‘s so much fun and so effective at the same time. Great combination which works for me perfectly!
Awesome stuff man! A sort of similar warm up exercise that I use a lot is RLRLR R LRLRL L RLRLRLRLRLRLR R and then switch to left hand lead. Can also be played with dubble strokes :) Have a good one and cheers from Sweden!
I just found this channel. I've been playing guitar all my life, but this past Saturday I bought my first drum set.. it's a "KAT" electronic set and I love it. Thanks for sharing and taking the time to make these videos to help others who want to learn. You rock bro. I subbed.
Such exercises are amazing .... Always switching between right and left hand ... You are absolutely right, Mike!!!! Stay healthy!!!! Greetings from germany Christoph 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍
….gosh what a perfect symmetrical relaxed finger and bounce technique! I do continuous singles slow….then build only to a speed I can do still relaxed and keep that goin’ ….yes not easy…..start slow to master it……excellent video…
Great exercise ! Just have one small clarification that I hope will be taken in the spirit that it is offered... At 100 bpm you are also pulling with your fingers in an almost French hand position. Although you are very successful and powerful using this hand position (see Cobham) it might be useful to point this out. Alternatively, turning the wrist fully is also beneficial for singles although only a few can really play fast in that manner. Anyway, keep up the good work!
I love, love, love this one! I call it "changing gears". I transcribed it for whatever reason (I think I can memba it). I do my feet with it at the same time. Usually with the Stick Control book. I also really like the one with the different rudiments, bass drum in between, left foot hi hat pulse. Ya can never perfect them, right? Ur the best bro!
Thanks Mike for being such a dynamic Educator, even when u dont see us I'm pretty sure some people agree, nod, or even say heck yeah to your lessons 👌🥁
Two things I find about this exercise that really works for me. 1) I can just 'do it' ... not unlike just playing paradiddles or paradiddle-diddles just getting a good flow going. 2) When I play it on my practice kit which has Aquarian Super Pads and I add a BD on the 1 of each measure it really helps me work on my hand / foot coordination. Thanks again.
Chuzhbinov practice pad is the best one on the market. It's made using a special material so you don't hurt your wrists, and on the top of that, this pad is completely silent!
Another great exercise Mike thank you! this is just what I needed. really need to work on this left side, I can get the right up to 200 but the left is not quite there yet I will push on tho looking forward to listening to the pod cast at some point this week as well eddys put it up in the discord group but with work not had a chance yet! Hope your well
Another great lesson with a very useful exercise. The real bonus is Juno, but sometime she needs her own video. She's adorable !!!
I agree 100% Juneau's channel will launch in 2021, lol

@@mikeslessons Hi Mike which metronome app do you use?
Just loved the way you explain everything with that humble attitude... So that it makes it look quite attainable. Loved it.
Let’s start calling these “Blessons” because that’s what they really are Blessings. Happy Sunday Everyone!
Yep. Even if it'a not Sundays, Mike's lessons are really 'Blessons' 👌
Amen!

has this exercise been helping you a lot? I have been hitting this wall and its frustrating me a lot :(

The fact that you owned it (tattoo), makes it cooler than the rest. Thank you for the great info, and Im followin now!
…;love the lesson…I get all excited about different pads. Love the loose bounce with back fingers. Oh that Blue sparkle Gretsch!
Top video. After weeks of practicing chop builder, paradiddle diddle etc, it'll soon be time to pay for another months subscription.
Thanks for the excellent lesson!! 👏👏

Great hack for building speed, THANKS!
