    I used to have a 10'4" RIB boat. It lasted me for almost 30 years until suddenly this Summer started to disintegrate like no tomorrow.
    No blame. I had my fun with it and it had to die some day. I loved the rigidity of the transom and floor combined together.
    I am looking for a new boat now. I wonder if anyone here had some experience coming down from a RIB boat to one with inflatable or aluminum floor. Is the handling and maneuverability of the boat significantly different?

      The construction of the Inflatable Sport Boats and the performance is almost identical to a RIB because of the inflatable keel V-shaped haul and large diameter side tubes. The only difference is the fiberglass haul vs soft bottom PVC and inflatable keel. The keel allows the inflatable soft bottom boat to handle the same as a hard bottom. The only time I would say a RIB is recommended over a soft bottom boat is when consistently using around very sharp rocky shores and shallow coral reef waters.

    • @boatsandoutboards9070
      @boatsandoutboards9070 2 года назад

      Not all air floor boats come with an inflatable keel. (3+1+1 vs 3+1) On the other hand, all hard floor models have a keel. Maneuverability is the same, if you are sitting on the floor , otherwise if you are sitting on the tube, you can't control the boat at high speeds. For high speeds I would definitely recommend a rib with a steering wheel.

      Yes, the air floor will carry 4 adults. I take 4 adults fishing in my Swordfish 10.8' air floor sport boat all the time and it performs great. Exact same as the aluminum floor.

    Does the air floor has a max inflatable psi level or just randomly inflated to 6psi? I have a Costco inflatable boat but the floor only up to 5psi which becomes squishy to try to plane with just 3 people.

    • @ericcraigbrown

      They are equally as fast. Floor weight isn't enough to change the speed or performance of the boat. Leg depth is the same for both style boats.

    Question, does an airdeck increase the capacity that your dinghy can cary? Currently have a 330 dinghy which indicates to have a carying capacity of around 425kg without an airdeck and i'm wondering if i could for example add an extra person on my dinghy safely if i used an airdeck compared to a plank deck or an aluminum deck?

    • @ericcraigbrown
      @ericcraigbrown  3 года назад +1

      No, the air deck doesn't increase your Sport Boat's weight capacity. The air deck and aluminum floor models carry and are rated to the same max weight capacity.

  • @ryanferris7841
    @ryanferris7841 2 года назад

    There is poor leg room with an air deck, I find it uncomfortable when sitting up on the tubes and going at speed

    • @ericcraigbrown
      @ericcraigbrown  2 года назад

      The floor space in the Inflatable Sport Boat brand is the exact same for both the air floor and aluminum floor. The flooring type doesn't change the interior width of the boat. I can't speak for another brand of inflatable boats.

    • @boatsandoutboards9070
      @boatsandoutboards9070 2 года назад

      some boats are designed for thin rigid floors, and when you put a 4"/10cm thick airdeck in it , leg room is reduced. but more important, that air floor reduces boat rigidity, tubes begin to bend with waves. it is just like an air bed over a slatted floor.
      some manufacturers design the pvc bottom with a pocket for the airdeck, and airdeck is squeezed between the tubes.
      some integrate air decks (like honwave ie series) with the tubes as single piece. those are the best.

    • @ryanferris7841
      @ryanferris7841 2 года назад +1

      @@boatsandoutboards9070 I’ve had experience in all 4 types of sibs!! And the alloy deck is by far the best, the tubes still bend in the honwave integrated air floor and the floor bulges causing drag!! The alloy floor cuts the water like a knife

    • @boatsandoutboards9070
      @boatsandoutboards9070 2 года назад +1

      @@ryanferris7841 all sibs , and even those large cargo ships bend if the waves are large enough.
      I never used an high pressure air floor boat myself, but tested a SUP at Decathlon and it looked pretty stiff under my 220lb weight.
      those air floors should be inflated to 15psi ,but i see many people (who always know better than its manufacturer;) claiming 5 or 7psi is more comfortable. Maybe they inflate their car tires to 15psi for comfort as well, I don't know.
