So many visionaries and movies have been created over time addressing what we are experiencing today ! These are classic and over time will be even more popular for today’s generations !
As someone born in 1977; I can remember that overpopulation was still in the list of popular fears during the 80’s; second to robots stealing their jobs. I would say that now we not only don’t care about overpopulation but instead we are concerned about low natality. Curiously, some are concerned about (perceived or real) higher natality in certain minorities. Regarding “robotization” fears; they have also evolved. I would say some of us even fantasize (in a good way, I mean) about them stealing people’s jobs, or rather working for us; or entertaining us
@Paul Sxton You are right; but mostly when you take into account not only human beings (or some of them) but the rest of the life in the planet. I don’t think we produce less food than needed
They have been working on remaking this movie linger than any other I can think of. Multiple screenplays, director's, and actors have been on board but one thing or another has kept it from happening. It will surely come eventually.
It's so funny to look back on movie trailers this far back. I LOVED this movie in 76...it was really a cool concept at the time. I was about 12, 13 yrs old watching this and it was amazing to me
Check out the new modern movie trailer they made for it. They updated it to Modern Trailer standards and emphasized the explosions! LOL but the sound is great
Aesthetically, it worked brilliantly and the sound effects were fabulous. The idea of Carrousel was very cinematic and was a great way to show the fascinating horror of this dystopia. Still one of my fave sci-fi or fantasy flicks.
did you get a sticker they would pass out to the kids for the palm of your hand at the theatre like I did? Darn thing would get hot in your hand. Not sure why
Have watched this movie many times. I never get tired of seeing it. Spectacular effects for its day and never tire of seeing Micheal York. I've read somewhere that he still owns the robe he wore in it. That's pretty cool.
You must be one of those that cannot have their brain any more degraded than it already is. You probably have two or three at the most brain cells left. However I highly doubt you have any!!!
This movie was AWESOME! Strange seemingly unfinished story line (according to today's standards, but an aesthetic element that isn't used much in Hollywood) but still excellent!
Just took a walk down memory lane with this 70's sci-fi movie. It points at an issue that is fluid till this day, Government Mind control. They tell you something, you believe it, even it means jumping off a cliff.
2001 a Space Odyssey came almost an entire decade before frigging Star Wars. THAT is the movie that TRULY pioneered and revolutionized visual effects of THOSE kind and gave birth to what we now know as the modern science fiction film. Just saying.
I find that SOME of the $h!t in THIS flick looks as good as anything in SW - like particularly the robot ("Fish! Plankton! Sea greens! And protein!"), the interrogation scene ("There is no sanctuary!"), the "clean-up" scene, and the "Carousel" scenes, all very visually striking moments which I think hold their own to high and mighty SW. Also, SW and THIS flick aren't exactly the SAME KIND of thing. THIS flick is a FUTURISTIC story where's SW is a SPACE ADVENTURE, so not THAT similar really.
@Emz 3103 There's an ad, on UK radio stations asking ppl to give away and recycle computers and phones. The reason apparently is to help underprivileged kids have pc items to do home schooling. I bet not 1 kid will get a laptop or desktop. The recyclers will make a mint out of it though. I wonder why they think ppl have the money to freely give up pcs that cost hundreds of pounds of hard earned cash to begin with.
I loved this show as a kid. I can't see why this plotline shouldn't be made into a movie today. It was very fascinating to me back then, and I would think it would be even more fascinating to the younger generation of today.

@@weirdo1060 in the books, Last Day is at 21, not 30; and the entire earth, with the exception of a few ruined cities, is available via the travel tubes. The book is set in "Los Angeles," but San Francisco no longer exists -- it's been destroyer in an earthquake "in the past." Washington, D.C., was destroyed by use of a singular nuclear weapon by a "crazy general" when young people storm the city during the opening hours of "The Little War" -- the youth revolution that takes over the entire planet. Those over 21 are put to death, and then voluntary acceptance of "Sleep at 21" becomes the norm. "Sandmen" still hunt down "Runners." The "resistance" or whatever it would be called is better organized in the novel, and "Sanctuary" is a real place.

York is very good in this, even if he is obviously more mature than the character is supposed to be. He acts with conviction in both the dialogue and action scenes. I thought that Jordan was intentionally a bit more manic so that there'd be a contrast. Agutter is always worth watching. I did find Ustinov's character a bit silly though. He's not what you'd really expect to find 'outside'.
Given the availability of New You plastic surgery, it's not beyond belief that Logan had previously made himself look more mature, say when he was just reaching the end of his teens.

It always depends on the quality of the movie, people are always shocked when they realise Gone with the Wind was made in 1939 instead of the late 70s and Saving Private Ryan still holds up as far better than most war movies 20 years later.
I honestly think it already does in a lot of ways. Like all the block buster action/comic book movies acting has this melodramatic generic fantasy seriousness to it where it kind of comes off as cheesy.
peregrin so true . One only need rewatching Total Call . I remember watching that one back in 1990 thinking how cool is this , of course today it's unwatchable garbage with over the top violence and ridiculous special effects. In a few years the so-called Marvel Films will suffer the same fate .
My name is Logan, and I feel like my entire life was to prove to society and the world that everything they believe is completely backward. Crazy how this stuff works 😮
Saw rand Paul giving a speech infront of this movie poster so I had to check it out....... if you can’t the symbolism in this movie watch it again, wild what they put in movies
David Good Yea, and also letting robots vaporizing ourselves at age 30 IS SO REVOLUTIONARY AND AMAZING NEW AGE!!! That stone in the hand is the red lotus and soo much illuminati symbols and propanganda in this bullshit!!!
David Good Its predictive programming, have you not notice about this trend of movies being a dystopian future where people are basically poor slaves being controlled by the rich??? Weird how the bible says that the mark of the beast will be in the right hand and how it controlls them....and this movie shows this stone in there hand which basically controlls them and if you did the research, there is illuminati symbolism in it....and if you refuse their system you would be killed
Originally saw this in 70MM on a huge screen. So impressive it took me two days to realize the movie itself really isn't very good. At least the trailer uses that great Jerry Goldsmith music, the best part of the movie.
2001 a Space Odyssey came almost an entire decade before frigging Star Wars. THAT is the movie that TRULY pioneered screen visuals of THOSE kind and gave birth to what we now know as the modern science fiction film. Just saying.
Jenny Agutter no longer attends sci-fi conventions since she is sick of people approaching her dressed in her costume (presumably those who do not have the body for it).
You may not be a fan of the trailer but movies from the 70"s were light years ahead of the processed crap they make today. Goosebumps for instance, is a special effects reel in search of a story.
1976 was the year i was born .and in all these year's i have never heard of or seen this filim .just watched a recap of it and now i have to see it in full 😊 I'm a big movie fan from all era's how did this gem 💎 of a filim get past me 🤔🙄
Besides Star Wars, I think the following are ALL Sci-Fi classics from the 70's: Silent Running, Soylent Green, Westworld, Logan's Run, Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Alien.
I'd add .. . ZPG (1972) The Questar Rapes (1974) The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976) Wizards (1976) Superman the Movie (1978) Buck Rogers in the 25th Century (1979) Star Trek The Motion Picture (1979)
Ever watched it before??? It was filmed in Dallas, Texas, and it not only blows tomatoes, but, they never finished it😂😅!!! And it's exactly what is happening!!! Brother James Kendall Moore OSB OFS OSC ✝️
Also in spirit cooking ceremonies you bleed the palm of your left hand, there’s a lot of hollywierd symbolism in this movie it’s crazy... but you’re right very predictive
Yeah I know they over explain the plot of movies in the trailers back then but some may forget it did well at the box office and I believe most critics liked it and it got a Oscar nomination for score and won for special effects! By today's standard its now considered more than a cult classic but ahead of its time! (The Island, Maze Runner, Hunger Games etc..) It was the first "dystopian future" film after Planet of the Apes ran it's course and first Sci fi adventure before Star Wars! Its not a perfect film (very few are!) But it's still pretty good! It's one of my favorite films! Yes there were other films of similar theme at the time but weren't appreciated yet and were more low key! There were sequels planned and written but they decided to go with a TV series! There is supposedly a remake in the works! With said sequels planned as a franchise! Hopefully like the new Ape films it will be done right!
What annoys me is seeing this movie criticised whilst movies with sadistic endings are thought of more highly. Be it because it is science-fiction or for any other reason, if one wants to go into 'Logan's Run' with high expectations and come out the other end dissing it, one can. Alternatively, one can go in, get into the spirit of it and come out satisfied.
This film is definitely due a good remake with modern special effects . It would be spectacular. This film had great style. Imagine the Carrousel scene and how that could be reimagined now , plus add a good electronic score and fashion you are onto a real winner. Maybe add some of the original books story back in too that was left out in this version.

The fear of the 60's and 70's was the danger of overpopulation of the planet. Movies like this and Solent green tapped into that concern

peregrin so true . One only need rewatching Total Call . I remember watching that one back in 1990 thinking how cool is this , of course today it's unwatchable garbage with over the top violence and ridiculous special effects. In a few years the so-called Marvel Films will suffer the same fate .
Such an awesome movie!
"In Time" starring Justin Timberlake is the closest to a remake as you're going to get...
And it sucked.
The Island , 2005 was the re-make of Logan's Run .
My name is Logan, and I feel like my entire life was to prove to society and the world that everything they believe is completely backward. Crazy how this stuff works 😮
Nobody:
Squidward: FUTURRREEE
I watched it a few months ago. It's pretty good, I recommended it if you haven't seen it.
RIP ETIKA
Saw rand Paul giving a speech infront of this movie poster so I had to check it out....... if you can’t the symbolism in this movie watch it again, wild what they put in movies
Someone should remake this in 2024 !!!!
Awesome! The original Minority Report!!
Great movie, watched it again today.
One of my favorite movies
David Good New world order
I disagree.
Humanity is growing up and either we destroy ourselves or we enter a new golden age of respect and love
David Good Yea, and also letting robots vaporizing ourselves at age 30 IS SO REVOLUTIONARY AND AMAZING NEW AGE!!! That stone in the hand is the red lotus and soo much illuminati symbols and propanganda in this bullshit!!!
Its a story.
Happy belated birthday, Michael. Have a good one, Legend.
Filmed in Present Day Canada.
Present day the GLOBE.
i love this movie. have it in my vcr and yes i still have vcr and 36 years old allmost
Greatest movie ever
It's beyond time being remade!! 💯
Originally saw this in 70MM on a huge screen. So impressive it took me two days to realize the movie itself really isn't very good. At least the trailer uses that great Jerry Goldsmith music, the best part of the movie.
"Logans Run" is the best Sci-Fi futuristic movie ever made. The rest are copies.
This movie was top notch sci-fi!
Until eleven months later.
1976 was the year i was born .and in all these year's i have never heard of or seen this filim .just watched a recap of it and now i have to see it in full 😊 I'm a big movie fan from all era's how did this gem 💎 of a filim get past me 🤔🙄
An accurate allegory to our world.
Besides Star Wars, I think the following are ALL Sci-Fi classics from the 70's: Silent Running, Soylent Green, Westworld, Logan's Run, Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Alien.
Bladerunner, Zardoz, Fantastic Planet
I'd add .. .
ZPG (1972)
The Questar Rapes (1974)
The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976)
Wizards (1976)
Superman the Movie (1978)
Buck Rogers in the 25th Century (1979)
Star Trek The Motion Picture (1979)
And here we are in 2022 where chips in the body are becoming common place.
nobody has chips in their body you whacko
take your meds grandpa
@@pastelpurpledeathbed haha div.
My favourite trilogy. The Omega Man. Soylent Green. Logan's Run.
We've just been told by our government to stay indoors. Well not me: I'm going to run!
You are an idiot then.
It is a fantastic film!
Its a bit too close to real life at the moment.
Ever watched it before??? It was filmed in Dallas, Texas, and it not only blows tomatoes, but, they never finished it😂😅!!! And it's exactly what is happening!!! Brother James Kendall Moore OSB OFS OSC ✝️
wow what an original comment! oh my god I have never seen this cliche statement before! you must be like soooooo clever
Great movie!
They knew the future. Hold your world in the palm of your hands. He meant your cell phone.
2:03 I feel like this should have been a good House music song despite being a decade before it was invented.
The beginning of Farrah Fawcett acting career. Charlie’s Angels and this in 1976. She’s taking off.
