- The first version of TAMGEE EBUNG was sung by Naba Volcano and Tangkhul legendary singer Worthingla in the year 1977, based on the personal love story of the singer himself {NABA VOLCANO}.
The song was a massive success and on people's demand, a radio version of the song was recorded again by legendary female singer Smt Arambam Jamuna Devi and Naba Volcano.
The success and the popularity of Tamgi Ebung only gained. Everyone tried their hands on their version of the song, however, a masterpiece always remained a masterpiece.
Much later a video album version of the song was released, sung by Sunita Nepram and Naba Volcano himself.
The song still resides in our hearts and we often hum to the tune.
- TAMGEE EBUNG-
The song is about two lovers who were separated by geographical barriers. The young lady resides in the beautiful mountain while the young lad resides in the valley. The young lady is worried that he might have forgotten her with all the chaos that surrounds him in the valley.
while the young lad is anxious about her and her wellbeing even if he was miles apart. He vividly remembers the time when she came to see him off, the tears, the heartbreak. They both remember the silly incidents they both had together and wonders if the other person had forgotten that, while it was clear that they both haven't.

My grandfather used to tell us that Tangkhuls are elder brother of Meiteis. In Mera month(Sept/Oct), every household of Meiteis, there will be lamps/torches tied on the top of post(Mera Wa-Yungba). These lamps were used in the ancient time to give signal to elder brothers in the hills that younger brothers were safe and doing well in the valley. Elder brothers in the hills also caused wildfire to signal that they were safe and doing well. Hinduism and Christianity divided us two hundred ago. Now politics again divide us. Our forefathers in the heaven may be crying to see so much disunity among us.. 😢😢Hope some day we will unite and make our forefathers proud...

Listening this on 25th June 2023 with a mixed feelings... How I wish there was a Control + Z keys for Manipur... We are ONE... No one benefits from War... We are not each other's enemies... Our bigger enemies are sin, poverty and corruption... Love from a Manipuri Naga to all the communities (Meitei, Naga, Kuki, Pangal )... Let PEACE prevail... 🙏
While listening to this song my tears couldn't be stopped. What has happened to our motherland? From past couple of years I saw genuine efforts in uniting all the communities but before fruition the evil corrupt politicians got in and now everything is destroyed. 😢 Not just this song but all the popular 2000s songs had so many positive comments from our tribal brothers and sisters who also grew up listening to all that songs. Now alls gone! God knows what's to become 😞😞
In those days Ima and Epa from the valley brought Ngari, thumyakbi, ngayai, kabok, salt, gurchini, sleeper, jungle boot etc in our village. In those days they didn't even need cash.
Our grandparents and Ema and Epa will talk about many things the whole night, they laughed like anything, they used lanterns (no electricity in those days). They were so loyal to each other. In noon they will go for fishing. They cooked and we all eat together. They will spend at least 4 to 5 days. Sometime they even teaches us how to train Buffalo. When they leave we gave them lots of yonchak (big beans), perrilla, soyabean etc.
Though they were illiterate they lived a beautiful life.
This beautiful song reminds me of all those younger days.
How can we ever forget the love we have shared so much.
May the love between hills and valley last for many more years.

These days, people's life begins from going Tuition upto night time. Students were force to study more time & sacrifice their health for just mere marks. Am also one of them who gets peers pressure for marks & Life skill 🥺.
You have reminded me back to 40 years,our pupu regularly went to vilages of hills along with clothes and he would come back with vegetables after 1 month Sometimes,hilly guardians were associated with him.They would stay some days at our homes and lived with our localities.So many happy days had gone,our pupu also had gone in due course of time .But, love and happiness had been lying through my heart.

Iam a tangkhul who have relatives married to meitei,Kabui and all other tribes but I am sometimes amazed by tangkhul girl- meitei guy pairing.There is sooo many tangkhul girls married to meitei guy as compared to other tribes.You will literally find tangkhul girls married to meitei guys from all nooks and corners of tangkhul villages and leikais.I guess meitei guys really like tangkhul girls and vice versa lol it's cute.(My sister was endlessly pursued by so many cute meitei guys too lol).Personally for me as well I have always favoured and likes meiteis more than any other tribe (in my heart) but our religion, politics and culture sometimes really drive a wedge between us.

Peoples who are inhabitants of this generation are the the offsprings n descendants of so call "HAO"... Let the HAO people show thier talent...
@@chithungv4256 Spot on. For example, we meitei referred to soil as 'Leihao' (lei = flower hao= origin). Haomee literally means the indigenous people. Our ancestors so beautifully coined the word 'People from this soil'. Some of our generations got lost in translation and even went to the length of mocking the word. @@tamnamapao Exactly. I have been to Ukhrul many times. In 90's going after my dad who was posted there. And in 2009-2015 when my job route go pass Ukhrul. Seen a lot of changes. Now traffic jam does happen. But back then very few vehicles and mostly on foot. Ah those were the good old days.

When iwas about 10/12 my cousin brother was posted in Ukhrul and we use to went there during our vacation. The tankhul leisabi and pakhang use to visit us and take us for site seeing. Moina ekhoise lunna toubi oja Upengi machan lakpagi nungtigi acha athak pubirarakpado kaode. They also use to cum to our house for some days before Chirstmas, for shopping. Ado Ukhrul chattabasu kuire, tamosu leikhidre. Miss you tammo Ukhrulbu palladi tammo hekta urak-ae😭😭😭

Even though we are devided due to politics, religion, cast and past mistakes, i hope that one day through musics and mutual understanding, we will unite and live together with harmony and love. I used to live in ukhrul for three years while my mother was at posting in ukhrul town. That was around 2001. This song reminds me of all the beautiful memories i had with my tangkhul brothers and sisters. Their straight forward and friendly nature was inspiring to me. And there was a girl name mayola, she was innocent and calm, always smile when she talked. I really loved her but because of the cultural differences, i was afraid to express my feelings to her, thinking that she might reject me since i was a meitei pakhang. Anyway thank you for this song❤
