It’s refreshing to see a Philippines expat vlog talk about substantive topics, instead of endless videos on dating, budgets and gossiping about other expats.

Thanks...I've talked a bit about budgets...But the idea of the channel isn't always "selling" the idea of moving to the Philippines to foreigners. We have a tendency to pander as vloggers whether we are aware of it or not...

    • @GeorgeBurdell-w3s
      @GeorgeBurdell-w3s 15 дней назад +9

@ yes, I think part of the problem is there are too many expats now, and they’ve brought their bad habits and attitudes with them that aren’t compatible with Filipino culture. For example, not being polite, embarrassing a Filipino usually without being aware of it, drinking alcohol all day, fighting with other expats, being condescending to Filipinos because they have less money… things like that. I’ve lived in the Philippines for 15+ years now (9 on Cebu, 6 on Palawan and now living on Panay) and I’m still learning from them about family cohesion (something most Americans can learn from, since our culture is sick and the nuclear family has been devalued). And they’re remarkably resourceful and cheerful. I also have a Filipino crew member on the ship and he’s loyal and polite. There’s always a few bad apples in every bunch, but for the most part Filipinos are remarkable people.

@petedinglas968 Most Pilipinos have no idea that the Lord God had prepared the land for His second coming.
Matthew 24:27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
Psalm 37:34 Wait on the LORD, and keep his way, and he shall exalt thee to inherit the land: when the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it.
Isaiah 60:9 Surely the isles shall wait for me, and the ships of Tarshish first, to bring thy sons from far, their silver and their gold with them, unto the name of the LORD thy God, and to the Holy One of Israel, because he hath glorified thee.

Philippines has a high rate of crime and has no functioning justice system, thus, the icc has to deal with their ejk. Moreover, the philippinese are people known for corruption, incompetence and blocking your driveway, they are not considered smart people because they don't know how to manage trash and they have a habit of urinating in public places.

The most smallest and fundamental community in a society is the Family. If you could at least make your family relations better and pass the culture to your offprings then you are succesful.

I used to get 60-100 calls a day as a BPO or call ctr agent from Americans representing financial, airline, hotel and medical even Telco corporations. That and had an American sponsor in elementary. I worked alongside Americans as part of an animation company. What I learned about American values is quite telling! America in the 70's used to be a prayerful Christian nation. Then you guys even forbid praying in public . You mistakenly thought drugs as freedom of choice even when your government could see it's disastrous effects on kids and families. There is nothing wrong with giving up a little freedom in favor of gratitude to aging parents so kids can see in front of them that death is a natural process when we see it in front of us through grandparents and aunts and uncles.. I can't forget the calls I get of aging Americans getting lost on the road or freezing in the middle of winter- alone and begging me to call their son or grand daughter and for platinum card holders, we stay on the line and conference them with family or 911 in case they need more from us before d call is ended on our part . It never fails to break my heart and a tear or two would fall and I get too affected as I leave notes on the acct about the call.

I think we can all learn from each other and try to create a balance. Filipinos can learn a little bit of independence from Americans and Americans can learn a different concept of supporting family from Filipinos. Filipino parents take it as their responsibility to send their kids to school until they finish college - generally, there is no kicking out a Filipino child from home until he/she gets married. Of course some children choose to live independently from their parents and its ok so long as parents are assured of their safety. The downside, there are children who never learn to be independent and become a burden even when they are married and have kids already. A well-off sibling would help the less fortunate sibling, often paying for the education of the latter's children or if they get wealthier than their parents, they would take the financial burden from their parents and pay for their younger sibling's education. Of course there are cases where siblings would fight over money or affection when jealousy rear its ugly head. Filipinos cannot even begin to properly prepare for retirement because not only siblings but other relatives sometimes also need financial help and because of our deep feeling for extended family, we stretch ourselves to help even when helping is counter-productive.

They are also the best knife fighters in the world, they have great self respect and respect for others. Since I've been here I've started 2 business's and a Martial arts school. Filipino women are awesome they speak up to 3-4 languages English is there second language, a lot of Filipino women have University degrees and they live for their families and men and don't judge their men on height, looks, age or D Size. I'm 62 I come from a well educated military family, I've been sick three times in 40 years, I just got my black belt in BJJ end of 2023, and I do MMA, I've done Martial arts all my life. Bless you! But dont miss that something spiritual to be part of it. It is very important. You didn't come to the Philippines by your own self. You might have been called and chosen. The land is waiting for the Messiah - Jesus.
Psalm 37:34 Wait on the LORD, and keep his way, and he shall exalt thee to inherit the land: when the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it.
Isaiah 42:4 He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the earth: and the ISLES shall wait for his law.
Isaiah 49:23 And kings shall be thy nursing fathers, and their queens thy nursing mothers: they shall bow down to thee with their face toward the earth, and lick up the dust of thy feet; and thou shalt know that I am the LORD: for they shall not be ashamed that wait for me.
Isaiah 42:10 Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise from the end of the earth, ye that go down to the sea, and all that is therein; the isles, and the inhabitants thereof.
You are in the true promised land. The servants of God to all the nations. When the time comes, this mountain (nation/country) will be exalted above any other mountain.
Micah 4:1 But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it. 2 And many nations shall come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall go forth of Zion, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

You mentioned about the PH not being great....
what is 'greatness' to you though? Higher economic status but living in fear? Being surrounded by people whonare angry or bitter? A materialistic lifestyle? a rat race culture?
If being GREAT means having enough money, but being unhappy, then we'd rarher not have it.
