    As an ex amish person I would say the chances of you being allowed to live with amish family for a week who will allowed you to record them are slim but not impossible. Most of comments about Amish using technology is true.

  • @TheJokesterSCR
    @TheJokesterSCR 2 года назад +27

    The Amish do avoid most technology, but these days there is no avoiding all of it. For example, the Amish business owners who make furniture or other things will use gasoline and machinery to help and also even have smart phones in order to help them do business. They still don't use it nonstop like the rest of us.

    • @ffjsb
      @ffjsb 2 года назад

      Amish WILL use modern tech if they are employed by an "English" factory. Most "Amish" furniture is made in factories with modern tools and technology, but just using Amish employees. "Amish" built most often just means an Amish employee built it, not that they used hand tools to build the product...

    • @IggyStardust1967
      @IggyStardust1967 2 года назад +2

      @@ffjsb Still, there's a level of quality associated with "Amish Made". As I understand it, Amish people won't offer anything (or even allow something to be advertised with their "name" associated with it) if it's not of the highest quality.
      I've worked around Menanites as well as Amish people, and while you really need to stand down-wind of them, the work they do is absolutely top notch. If I needed to hire someone for any sort of construction work, they would be the first I'd call upon. Smell or no smell, their work ethic offsets that.

    • @trey7772
      @trey7772 8 месяцев назад

      It depends on the type of Amish. Old Order and Swartzentruber tpes will avoid it, but some New Order are more liberal.

    • @SassyIndian
      @SassyIndian 16 дней назад

      @IggyStardust1967 I agree, their work ethic is just outstanding. I live in a small town that's surrounded by Amish communities. A neighbor across the street hired the Amish's roofing company. They showed up with like 20 people and had the shingles tore off and reshingled in literally just over 6 hours. Quality was awesome.😁

I died laughing because you have to know the original.....yeah now you should research the Amish. That's the Amish...they are allowed to leave at age 16, many end up pregnant, on drugs etc. The kids go crazy because they have never experienced alcohol etc and all the other fun stuff. But about 90% end up going back to their community in the end. You can see them on RUclips. Rumsprunge i think it's called. Peace from Canada.

They can marry between the sects. Mormons are the ones who used to have multiple wives. They wear regular clothes and live modern. I had LDS (Latter Day Saint) friends growing up.

    This song is an Al masterpiece. He was on such a hot streak in the 90’s.

  • @robertcherman
    @robertcherman 2 года назад +2

    My great grandma was born Amish. It's not that they are really against technology, because they still have to use it. They all have to use batteries for the lights on the horse and buggies. A lot have boomboxes that play music, which need batteries. Most Amish communities have one television and one telephone for emergency purposes. The television for the weather and a phone to call 911. They will even use it to order pizza. It is more based on a vote, at their city hall type meetings. If they agree to something then they will use it.
    And Amish people do fight and they usually win, but I think that is more grade school and high school. I don't think the adults do as much, but I have seen a lot of kids pick fights with Amish kids, and then watch them get their butts kicked. It's hard for a normal school kid to beat up a kid, that probably woke up at 4:30 in the morning doing farm chores.
    The Amish kids in school were not allowed to watch movies when we had movie day, but not because it was television, it's that they believe movies and shows are not good to watch. They would have to leave the classroom, but they didn't have to leave the classroom because the lights were on, or because the teacher used an overhead projector.

    Do Amish Mennonites use technology? Yet, contrary to popular belief, the Amish don't reject all modern technology and aren't entirely against it. While guidelines around the use of tech vary between their communities, in many of them, you'll find Amish folks using electricity, telephones, and even a kind of computer. Also my grandfather came from Dutch Pennsyvania Lancaster he's not Amish he is Methodist but he did go too school with Amish children during 40s.

    Members of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints(not actually called Mormons) are Christians and mainly what sets them apart from most Christians are things like the word of wisdom(a belief that things like alcohol, coffee, tea, etc should be avoided), the belief that God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost are three separate beings, the belief that families are eternal, God continues to speak through prophets today, etc. Overall a member of the church lives like anyone else and tried to be a good member of the community. "In the world but not of the world." Basically the belief is to try to remain unstained by the bad things in the world but that to make a difference and help others one needs to be involved with society. That is how members try to live.

    The Amish have almost no power. I don't even think they vote or pay taxes. They have no technology, as you see, and they are well known for craftsmanship.
    Both are high-demand religions that are difficult to leave, but the Amish is much harder to leave by any metric I can think of. Mormons don't even shun (at least not officially, but some families do it).

    Its weird because i live in Sweden and we have missionary mormons and also pro amish people spreading their words one of my neighbours is rumoured to have american "missionaries" constantly. All of those that come and speak their mind are great people i mean i dont know if their bad at aall. They seem down to earth. Originally from what i understand amish and mormons were predominantly german and scandinavian settlers that joined together in USA.

    Amish are mostly German in origin and depending on the sect live as much as possible like it’s the 18th century! Mormons on the other hand are many ethnicities but don’t shun modern technologies

    You can’t go wrong with Al. Check out Couch Potato, it’s a parody of Eminem’s Lose Yourself. He took Ems song and flipped it.

    Amish are in old fashioned clothing and tend to not use modern technology. They are nice people. Mormons look like your everyday people and they are pretty nice too.

    Amish people believe that the history stopped about 1700 (correct me if i am wrong). They are not allowed using things after that period of time. Head of the church decides what men can read in the bible. They are not allowed to read what he doesn't approve off. There is one special period, which count for boys and girls. The Rumspringe. In that period they can do as they please, aftwards deciding if they want to be baptist as amish, as most young people do.

    You're confusing Mennonites with Mormons. I grew up near Lancaster, Pa. which is known for their Amish. In a nutshell, Amish don't have electricity or cars. They travel by a horse pulled buggy and plow their fields using horse powered plows. Menonites have electricity & cars but their cars are usually black.

    Pennsylvania and Ohio have Amish people. Lancaster is in Pennsylvania. Lancaster is NOT pronounced LAN-kaster!! It is pronounced LANK-aster.
