Hi there - I've just seen this video from a RUclips suggestion and wanted to say how much I enjoyed it. A perfect mix of well shot 'record', mood-evoking night scenes, an interesting 'recovery' and a few very appropriate stills too. Well done :)
Wonderful wonderful video... Please in future as a suggestion... Any more video's of modern Blackpool tramway, a good idea for music is Jean Michael Jarre Oxygene 4 as I know it is audible coming out of the pier arcades (South and central) Some wonderful shots of Coronation car and frigate there I see.... Simply a 'Jewel of the north' Thanks for uploading this...
I think 660 had it's VAMBAC removed, not sure about 663 and 304 left Rigby Road a few weeks ago. 304 is supposed to be heading north in the next week or so to operate on the Beamish tramway. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for your very kind comments 2259Ben. I would like use music such as Jean Michael Jarre, but I'm afraid it's the old copy right thing. I watched this video tonight myself, first time since creating and uploading it onto RUclips and it's hard to believe that a lot of these scenes will never be seen again. Thanks once again 2259Ben.
love watchin your videos again and again.. love the start of this one, still cant believe you let a tram run over your camera haha...... I'd be brickin it !!! lol
Nice Vid, I was in Blackpool the 23rd and 24th, during the day there seemed to be single deckers (cenetary and brush) and the double deckers came out at about 5. It was nice to see the cenetaries and brush cars as they wont be there next year when i will next be visiting.
@gallafey I think the sparking probably got more to do with the lack of trams with trolly poles using this section of track. It more or less produced this sparking all the way down to Pleasure Beach. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for your very kind comment John G. Lidstone. It's hard to believe that most of these old trams will never be seen again in Blackpool. Thanks for watching.
As far as I was aware the Lancastrian Transport Trust #304 was the only 'Coronation' with a working VAMBAC controller & that one had to have the former replaced. It looked like it was originally made from a laminate of resin & paper like Paxolin. The salty environment of Blackpool was not really kind to these controllers, but they were a good idea come far too late to do any good. Walter Luff would have been amazed to have discovered the trams he ordered before WW2 were still in service a decade into the next Millenium & trams had returned to Manchester, Sheffield, London & Edinburgh. My first encounter with a Blackpool tram was going to Fleetwood on a Railcar. I was amazed to find a vehicle with so much varnished wood inside. Even the cab doors had a wood pediment above them. Goodness me the ride along the promenade was not nice until we passed the Metropole Hotel and were on the reserved track section.
I believe 304 is now part of the heritage fleet and will need a transponder fitting to allow future operation. On this particular day it broke the non-transponder rule, and was allowed out for testing of new tram wash. I think this was the only suitable tram available at the time, due to all other single deckers being out in service.
@nightw4tchman Did shoot a Flexity the day after going through the new tram wash, but put the coronation in as I thought it was more news worthy. Plenty of time to see the Flexity 2 trams. Thanks for your comments nightw4tchman.
@WHOisHE15 No I do not work for Blackpool Transport. I have only taken an interest in the tramway in the last couple of years. Also when finding out what the future changes were for the tramway, decided to record the final years of the traditional tramway. Thanks for watching.
Sorry about that, ignore my last response as this is incorrect. 304 is LTT owned and is unlikely to see any future use. I believe that 660 will see some future use though, as this is owned by Blackpool Transport.
@RailSparkz95 Thanks for your comments RailSparkz95. There are few reports on the internet suggesting that Centenary 641 may already be withdrawn. Both reports also say that it did it's last run on 25th June which is not true as I video this tram on the 2nd July (Blackpool Trams July 2011 video). Lets hope it makes a comeback before the final curtain for the Centenaries.
@Doctortrek1 Was out last week but didn't put anything under a tram though. The only thing I have put under a tram was my camcorder at Little Bispham for the first shot and last shot on this video.
@normandytrooper The coronation is staying as far as I know, I think it belong to Blackpool Transport. Whether it will seen any use is another matter. Thanks for your comments nomandytrooper.
@laim22 Had been thinking of doing this opening shot for months then finally got the courage to try it. Chose Little Bispham as I new it would be slowing down here, less chance of my camera being sucked away. Thanks once again liam22 for your kind comments.
@FishyCam The weather for next week is suppose to be good according to the Liar (weather man), so enjoy your stay and thanks for your comments FishyCam.
Does 660 have an inactive VAMBAC unit or is the other unit in 663 waiting to be restored (apart from the ones in 11, 304, 602)? Are they going to run 304, or will it be a static exibit, leaving 11 as the only operational VAMBAC tram?
That is exactly what I did, and also hoped that my camera did not get whipped out in the process. Chose Little Bispham as I knew the tram would be going slow at this location. Thanks for watching
Garry Amazing looking back how much has changed since the video was posted. Everything other than 646 & 630 safe and sound at Rigby Road. The Blackpool Heritage Tram Tour operation under Bryan stewardship continues to surpass all expectations.
Chris Callan I have just had to watch the video as it has been several years since I have seen it. Did notice 762 as well 646 & 630. Like you say it is amazing what Bryan and the rest of the team have accomplished.

Great stuff very well shot. I'll be there myself on Thursday, really looking forward to it.
Glad this video brought back so many happy memories for you.
Thanks for watching 1952terminater.

@AndrewParkerTV Thank you for your comments AndrewParker TV.
As far as I know the new trams will be staying in there new drab livery.
the crackling sound of the trolly pole on coronation tram sparking all the way, it looks as though the valtage has been increased

@srpott40 Hello srpott40,
Glad you liked the video and thank you for your kind comments.
Quite a few of these trams no longer work on Blackpool's tramway.
Thanks for watching tumblebob101.

is Coronation 304 still running around? the one from salvage squad?
The voltage has been increased ready for the new tram fleet it has been increased from 550V to 600V
@suncoolclose Thank you for your comment.
Yes I believe the Liar is forecasting good for this weekend, believe it when I see it.
@clown1973 I am still using the same camera that I used for the other videos.
Thanks for your comments clown1973

The first scene is great, you got a new camera?
Best regards
Once again Excellent, shame there was no Flexity out and about.
I didn't stop to think about copyright... Anyway, brilliant video nonetheless and I can always listen to Oxygene in another tab...
Nice vid , do you know if the coronation is being sold?
magical trams in blackpool
A great video... the Flexity’s just don’t have the character of the old trams. Blackpool will never be the same
