Beautiful woman. Beautiful voice. Wish we had more of her music today . 🎶
RIP dear lady!
the new canadian postage stamp brought me here - hard to believe i never heard of this great canadian talent until now !
I am not a really big fan of Jazz, but there is no denying I love this song, the band is spot on and Eleanor Collins has a beautiful tone to her singing. Just lovely!
Oh my goodness, this singer has a velvet voice and her life is such an inspiring and beautiful story
Never heard of her.
Very nice!
What a beauty a hidden gem….love it love it. God bless you Ms. Collins
Being Canadian. I did not know a thing about this incredible lady.😔
I've never heard of her before yesterday when I saw her face featured on the new Canadian stamp. The lady in the post office told me she's a Canadian Jazz singer. So now I see her Wikipedia page, that's she's 102 years old and received the Order of Canada in 2014 at age 94. She looked fantastic for 94. And her voice is fantastic as well.
Amazing to hear how her family fled Oklahoma, one of the bluest eyes, apple pie states in America (hence, recall the famous Rogers and Hammerstein musical by the same name). Eleanor's people escaped wanton racial unrest and heinous acts of racially inspired violence such as what occurred in Tulsa. They fled North to Canada. Eleanor had no desire and as she said, "no need to retrace their steps in reverse." Thus, Eleanor became a main stay precious gift to Canada. RIP Queen!
I just found out she's my 3rd cousin!
I've never heard of her, but great voice
Her obit in The NY Times today indicated she prioritized family over career. Based on these few recordings, If she had made different choices she had the talent to be a major jazz/standards singer.
Beautiful voice. Too bad itunes/amazon music does not have her music. So sad that brcause she was canadian she was not heard off that much.
Sounds somewhat like Carmen McRae
Excellent and going strong at 103. Reminds of Ella.
Afro is a hairdo. Africa is the proper name of AFRICA!
Love your videos! I am still in Queretaro, Mexico for life, and loving this city. I am a USA Muslim. Check out Cuajinicuilapa in Guerrero, and The Vicente Guerrero museum. We are everywhere, but I am friends with all.
Where did you find the recording? Amazing that the woman that is considered the First Lady of Jazz in Canada has no albums one can buy.
That's because there are NO/ZERO record stores.
London Ontario
