Ableton stock compressor is underrated. With 30ms attack it can give quite good punch, with similar feel to SSL channel strip compressor. Combine that with Saturator, and you basically emulate 90% of "vintage"-like plugins :D But the beauty of paid plugins is that they just do the job quickly and you get results faster.
Sounds a little bit like adam beyer style techno. I haven't done research , but i did wonder what beyer used to get such punchy compressed drum sounds. I would guess he uses(or did) use compression but probably a hardware compressor. Regardless, years ago when i first heard his music ,possibly his first couple of records, (one was called the eggplant e.p., and the other was a double red vinyl release, and the first couple of drumcode releases , those records had really hard punching drums. I still have those records, and at the time of their release, i never heard Any techno from anyone who had "that" sound. I know it's compression but he definitely created his own style sound.
there's a million tutorials and explanations for how compressors work and what they're used for. Go look it up and then use it. There are no secrets, shortcuts, or presets that will magically make your work better.
Loving your videos recently!
