'It's hurting us so bad': Portland business owners call on city leaders to stop violence downtown

- Portland business owners are demanding city leaders take action to stop the violent protests that rock downtown Portland night after night.
Monday morning, city workers used pressure washers to remove graffiti from the Multnomah County Courthouse and other buildings, streets and signs.
There is graffiti in many places-but especially on the base that held an elk statute for more than 100 years-and on the outside of the federal courthouse.
There is frustration among business owners struggling to survive after shutting down due to the coronavirus pandemic, and then reopening to chaos.
“It doesn’t make any sense,” said Jen Causey as she stood inside her empty coffee shop with wood covering her windows.
“I was patient at first and I understood why the destruction was happening. But it’s still happening and it's hurting us so bad,” she said.
Causey owns the Lotus and Bean coffee shop. She supports the peaceful protests, but not the destruction. Like many owners, she wants action from city leaders.
“Well, I’d like people to come back to downtown. And so I would like the leaders to stress to people that downtown is not an unsafe place to be. And I think a lot of people that don’t live downtown have this idea that its like a battle ground down here. During the day, it’s a ghost town,” Causey said.

The coffee shop owner is a big part of the problem in Portland. She understood why the destruction was happening 0:26. She supports the peaceful protests but not the destruction 0:40. She says that downtown 'is not an unsafe place to be' 0:52. Not unsafe? Peaceful protests? Understood the destruction? How far out of touch with reality can a person be.
Sounds like double speak. Like she's afraid to say what she feels because the violent extortionist mobs run the city. Very sad that these anarchists and communists have been protected and allowed to fester until the rot became so noxious that others must now deal with the cancerous Marxists whose aim is only to destroy.
She's okay with the riots and destruction as long as it doesn't affect her income.

I was born in Portland about 60 years ago. I lived around there for 50 years. I ran away. You should too. Portland has lost it's soul. It went well past weird to sick and depraved.

The last time I went into Portland was June 23. I was shocked at how bad it was then, and haven't gone back into the city since... it really is awful what this all has become.

I visited 5 years ago and it was bad, can't imagine now. When I visited 5 years ago the homeless were so frequent along the river we couldn't ride bikes without stopping every 5-10 yards. We had saved money for our vacation to the northwest from CO. I refused to give beggars the money I had saved, they shot spit balls through a straw. These experiences have become so common I no longer have empathy for the them or the blight. There's a small number who actually need help, I feel that most are just lazy.
It's only happening in Downtown, as long as you avoid Downtown at night you'll be fine.

I think back when I was in vice, I locked up Tony Ballard. He was doing the big nasty in the city park toilets.
I used to work downtown almost every night walking past the Pioneer Square, Amazed at all the people in the large Apple store, catch a lunch in the Mall near by or visit the Target store across from parking, sometimes get a Starbucks coffee, always some place to explore as I go about repairs. Portland was a place for everybody, sometimes the police ask if I was ok, really appreciated them looking out for me. Now all of that is gone, nothing but rage and hate in people all over downtown. It really saddens me to my heart to see all the damaged stores that I worked so hard to help keep going. May God help us all, why are you hurting your owe community, only thing your defunding is yourself.

It was yellow ) at my car, just missing my side window and head. I'm already suffering enough due to a brain injury years ago. I'm staying away from downtown.
