Kountry Glam sounds good...BUT....try a Philadelphia ButterCake sometime! The topping is runny, rich butter with crispy areas that add texture and heavenly goodness. There is no cream cheese in the Philly version, and the recipe is long. German bakers sold it in their bakeries, and there is no substitute for the real thing. I think the Reading Terminal Market in center city still sells it. The cake has yeast in it, so it is quite different. In the meantime, will test your recipe. It sounds like a cheesecake and am looking forward to tasting it. Cheers....

When I was a little girl and we visited my grandparents in St. Louis in the summer time, Grandpa and I would walk to the bakery early on Saturday mornings and buy a gooey butter cake for our breakfast. I'm told that the recipe originated in St. Louis. It is delicious with a great big glass of ice cold milk!! Thanks again for another wonderful memory!!! Blessings and a big hug!

never seen the pound cake box mix so we've always used regular box cake and it works just fine. Also you can change up the flavours such as using chocolate cake for the base and adding peanut butter yo the filling or adding pumpkin and spices or i normally add toffee bits to this original recipe and it's heavenly.

This cake looks exactly like what they used to give us with our school lunch for a dessert. It was called a “lemon pie cookie” & it was my favorite school lunch dessert ever, besides their peanut butter bars!! 😋😋😋

I believe the traditional (i.e. original version) used a standard yellow cake mix for the bottom layer, but I have also seen and ate all the variations other have mentioned in the comments (i.e. pound cake, white cake, etc). Whatever cake mix you use on the bottom, you really can't go wrong when making this cake. Is definitely a FAV of most people from STL. If you ever get the chance, you should visit STL. There is a coffee shop named Park Avenue Coffee. They have over 70 different flavors/varieties of googey butter cake. It's all pretty amazing.
With that much butter and cream cheese, the combo of textures, this is the way I want to go out of the world. "Are you ok? You look like you're having a heart attack?!" "It's fine, bring me another slice. Hurry!"

I use lemon extract instead of vanilla and it is delicious. The first time I baked it my sons ate the entire batch and they are not sweet eaters. So glad you posted this video. I haven't made it in quite a while. I shall surprise them for Thanksgiving. Our sons are 33 and 43 but still our babies.

But in all honesty, it takes a southern girl to take a northern recipe and make it right. I think I'm gonna purchase their cookbook(s). Yum to the endth degree! Most other recipes call for using just yellow cake mix, but stepping it up to pound cake truly makes a difference.
I made this recipe for Christmas. I didn't have vanilla extract but did have clear vanilla. So the flavor was more like funfetti - to which I should have added sprinkles instead of powdered sugar. My family and I loved the chewy and crunchy edges the best. It was nice to try something new. My kids reaction was "WOW! what is that?!" They thought I was a genius. Thank you so much.

? I just made PD ogp cake. Did you use Tammy’s 325 degrees to bake your? PD recipe calls for 350 temp. I so love watching Tammy’s videos but I didn’t see this one until after I baked mine. I’m just curious for the future.
