The problem with spending $25 mil/year on Aiyuk's contract is that the money saved by Heyward's likely retirement is offset by the need to actually pay a QB next year.
Not for a first rounder and a big contract, makes no sense when you can draft a kid that's really good for peanuts.
Pitt has never had a problem drafting good WRs out of the draft. I like Aiyuk but he not worth a 1st round pick.
I think the steelers should try to get Courtland Sutton. He has a great history with wilson, and he is a td machine. I think we could get him for cheaper than aiyuk. I dont think the steelers should be giving up any 1st round picks.
If we don’t give up our first we won’t be getting a top tier receiver.
Don't assume that is what we would give up. We haven't paid asking price yet on any of our trades so far, let's see what the Kahn man's magic can do.
Dunno about td machine, Sutton had 4 TD combined in 2021-2022 after zero in 2020 when he barely played cause he was hurt. But yeah he did have 10 last year which is great. Still don't think 2024 version is near overall 2024 Aiyuk quality - but pretty comparable with Diontae. Agree, I don't want to give up a 1st, but for Aiyuk I would consider it. Maybe we could kick the can down the road and offer a 2025 1st rounder and a player, or a 2024 3rd and 2025 1st or something - which hopefully will be a lower pick than they have this year, and we won't be desperate for a center. Has to be a steep price but maybe the Kahn Artist can figure something out without breaking the draft bank.

I love the fact that Deke's allowing me to be lazy. Normally I scoured for tidbits trying to put the puzzle together myself. Dont have to now with Deke on the job. Keep it up. My goal is too turn into Jabba the Hut due to inactivity.
Personally I think the Steelers are cool with riding with Moore at left tackle and leaving Jones at right tackle. And know they can get their center in the 2nd round of the draft and are going to trade their 1st to get a great WR to make the offense elite.

Agreed. That might be the most idiotic trade consideration I’ve heard since the Ricky Williams trade. What happens if you give three first round pics to get Justin Jefferson and he has a catastrophic injury or diagnosis they won’t allow him to play football anymore. How would a team feel watching their first run pick go to other teams year, after year, after year? I could see a first and a second at best. For Brandon Ayuk, maybe a second would be reasonable, definitely not a first he is only one year younger than Dionte Johnson.

I am European, so I am allowed to have two favourite NFL teams, which just happen to be the Steelers and the 49ers (and I picked both in years, when they were not successful 😉). For the past 3 years, Aiyuk has been my favourite player on the 49ers by far. He would fit perfectly into the Steelers culture. That being said, I don't see, how a deal could happen, because both teams have the same needs. O-line and defensive secondary. Both have almost no chance to get instant starters at these positions in this draft, let alone, if they gave up their first round picks. The rumours around the trade talks with the Jags said that the 49ers wanted their first round pick (17) and a player, which would have been a WR in that case. I really can't imagine, which players the Steelers could offer in addition to their 20th pick. And I also think they should not give away that pick.

An alternative is getting Thomas JR at WR round 1 on a rookie deal and then going center round 2 and maybe move up late round 2 for a decent OT with one of our early 3rd’s and a 4th

Been listening to yours and other commentary on the BIG catch at wide receiver that is in the works and I had a thought, what if they did trade George Pickens and maybe their second fourth-round pick to get Brandon Aiyuk AND THEN trade their first round pick, maybe a pick next year and Calvin Austin to get Justin Jefferson. I don't know if that works out with salaries and cap considerations but it seems like the type of thing Omar could finagle

I'd love to have him as our receiver but his contract will hurt too much because the Steelers have 8 guys that will need to be paid next year if we plan on keeping them or they don't retire. They need to keep the first round pick for a center or wide receiver. The way the draft unfolds will decide which one we will use a first round pick on. I'd hopefully say use the 1 pick on a wide receiver and hopefully JPJ or even BeeBee will be there later for us to pick up.

This trade is too steep for the Steelers - if you compare what they hypothetically wanted from Jacksonville (their first 2024 first rounder, Zay Jones, etc..), then it's just too steep.

Aijuk is the definition of a Steelers wide out! Physical as hell and loves throwing a nasty block. Would be 1a and 1b with Pickens. That would be a massive upgrade from Diontae. If we package Calvin Austin with a pick or 2 then we could get OLine and Dline help with our first 2 picks in the draft and take a WR later in the draft in the draft bc we are known for developing wide outs. Aiyuk can definitely play. I get that idea from actually watching SF games rather than just looking at stats. But I don't think they'll go crazy and start giving up a first round pick and a good player. I definitely want to see OL in the first round and then they can do their thing and hit a home run with a receiver in the draft. Get a cheaper veteran if you can and then have a good draft.
