- Finally got a chance to make a quick video to keep you all up to date on our mission of higher nutrient dense seed for the future! This is what it looks like in motion!
WOW Brad! What an AWESOME setup! I am just so excited watching this! I wondered if that was independently owned or not. That must have been some crazy up-front cost to build all that facility! VERY well designed! Thanks for sharing!
Yea its a major operation. the unique thing is we are one of the last independent plants that are set up to turnkey breed, license have the facilities to produce and condition and the ability to get it to identity preserved markets. every major plant like this is basically owned by wall street any more. after the Bayer monsanto merger and the cortiva group merged they basically just put 99% of independent seed producers out of business! They now control the entire seed supply... well except for 1! Many other independent seed companies became dependent on the "bigs" to supply them with germplasm and market share and they basically just contracted with the bigs! I never saw that as a sustainable business or agricultural model, so i listened to the consumers found my own markets and after a decade long journey i find myself in a very unique position. my advice to anyone out there... invest in yourself and your kids legacy! i was fortunate to have a solid base of a 100+ year old seed company started by my great grandfather, so i am standing on the shoulders of my elders while honoring their independent spirit, none of my forefathers would "kiss the ring" or "bend the knee" to the large wall street farm system. im a realist and a businessman, not an idealist this has to turn a profit otherwise we cannot complete our mission of higher nutrient dense seed, food and feed. how often do we get a chance to do the right thing and make money in this world? who knew... supply consumers directly, go around the constraints of big ag monopolies, to the point we dont even need their germplasm or patented foundation seed. i like to think we did this the right way! made it work for a decade, show results make it profitable, regenerate soil health, breed more nutrient dense seed that grows healthier food... do all that first... then revealed it to the world!

I just cant believe how they have access to just such a large variety of fruits , trees and plants. Feels like they live in paradise. Fresh produce right on their door step , surrounded by nature and enjoyed together in a close knit family and community! All the money in the world cant buy what they have.

while I was in 8th grade. I got a job for Pfister hybrids in ElPaso,IL. All I had to do was sit in a chair on top of these 100 yds dryers for seed corn. And direct corn on a belt into these dryers until they come up to the mark. then I would move and start filling another dryer, just had to make sure I had plenty of magazines n books to read. That was some of the easiest money I think I've ever made in my entire life but boy I sure did like it and the view was beautiful!
It's all fun and game and candy crush until stuff starts breaking! Lol

Thanks! more videos of picking, shelling, storage, conditioning, packaging and delivery of, independent identity preserved products, to market to come! we have been grinding our husks sometimes with some cobs with a custom built grinder, as you probably know its tuff to dump a load of fluff into the top of a grinder. so we made one that pushes the husks down into the grinder, it actually works quite well! the cattle feeders around here go crazy for it! especially when we tested it for feed value, its nutrient density was off the charts compared to other conventional seed corn plant bi-products. Regeneratively farmed seed cobs and husks have higher nutrient value also! another reason i should probably be running cattle! thats why i keep watching your channel!

Do the loose kernels get to stay with the ears or pitched out with husk?
We discard the loose kernels from the field, they get mixed in with the husks bi-product. which makes for good feed quality! Kernels that shell off the ear from the field could potentially be damaged or usually shell off In field for a reason! It's all about quality, yield is not necessarily and after thought, But the second generation performance is Paramount. Like I always said, the measure of a good seed company is the amount of potentially marginal product they're willing to discard! Many of the detached kernels could make good seed. But I'm not putting my name on a bag on a could! Good question Thanks for asking
Why do you process your corn this way instead of just doing it all in combine? Is it to save your husks for feed?
This is how you process seed corn. This is a seed corn crop your looking at. It a process to pick, sort, dry and shell, then condition and retail the seed to farmers, we grow the seed that all the farmers grow. The byproducts, cobs and husks are just part of the process, it would not be worth processing corn this way just to separate the husks compared to using a combine. We call this the biggest stationary combine in the county, it's astute that you picked that up... to be sure we are on same page, this is how you process and manage the living embryo that is seed for next year
@@growthefarmup2606 So is it safe to assume that corn processed in a combine wouldn't be satisfactory to use as seed corn based on the fact you have a multimillion dollar process to do so? Also, how was your yield on the Austrian winter pea cover crop? I couldn't find a follow up video.
@better_than_nothing yes, look up some other videos explaining the hybridization of corn Genetics and and cross pollination plant breeding... I'll put out a new vid about as we are are right in the middle of cross pollination season. We grow the seed that all farmers plant... that's what we do at GTFU.
The EXTREEM drought changed every producers plans very quickly this spring! Corn and soybeans crops are droughted out and will not yield anything in large swaths of America and Canada, wofe spread historic drought, the winter peas were unfortunately a victim of this extreeme winter and drought... we're actually in the 3rd year of short moisture from rainfall.
Thnx for reminding me, I need to put out a replication video explaining hybridization 101 for seed corn, because that's one of the many things I specialize in!
@better_than_nothing also I see your subbed to KT3406e. I usually check the channel quick before I correspond in the chat with viewers questions. When I saw your subbed to KT3406e I immediately knew you know quality when you see it! Is that young man not the best Cat engine rebuilder in America? The world? I dunno there's alot of talented guys but hoe do I get KT3406e to build me a 3 million mile 30 year grain hauling c-15? Gimme a cat any day all day long, my whole fleet runs cats, I got new aero trucks with C12's in em, just cus they never break down! They just run!!! I just bit the bullet 5 years ago and refit all my new trucks with cats and 18 speeds. Expensive bit on a 5 yr avg I have literal receipts that I'm money ahead. I still have 2 Cummins ISX emmisions engines in my fleet, they run 50% of time and cost 10K a year more in maintenance and always let me down. My CATS never stop running. 👊 respect the KT3406e

So do you only harvest a specific variety at a time or how do you sort that?
Thnx for checking it out, Always keep the facility clean, it's best to only run 1 variety at a time, and in-between different 'identity preserved' varieties we clean everything 100% clean with blowers, vacumes etc, we have a saying... "kernel clean is kernel clean, and there is no in-between!" Varietal integrity is everything in the seed and Identity preserved production markets.
