Also I didn't show side b/down b recoveries since it's pretty much impossible to get a cpu to recover using them FeelsBadMan; so pretty much any of these recoveries with a hitbox can be countered.

This looks promising. Intangibility, slow down, good hit box, less endlag. They really made this move way more useful than in sm4sh!

@@Theeinsom intangibiliy means the character can't be effected when hit think of it as a spot dodge
I kinda miss one-shotting people offstage, if they are really low they can now survive the spike unless they are way below the ledge. But eh, I can reliably finish off most of them with Dair, as they surely WON'T make it back even if they dodge it, so no big deal.

If your new to smash I recommend not to use greninja,because to master him, you need enough experience and you need to practice your combos with greninja because that will come in handy

I like how his counter finally slow down the opponent this time fixing his issue in Smash 4. In Smash 4, the substitute doll get in the way of his counter which makes it blockable on reaction which is stupid and poorly designed.
Yeah I hated it. Now it can still miss, but is so much better
This video has one little flaw: Pichu's edgeguard isn't the "same as Pikachu" because Pichu's up B does no damage.

A flaw in this video is that good opponents will recover upwards from directly below the ledge, in which substitute won’t activate. For example a Firefox straight upwards to the ledge won’t be caught by a run off Substitute.
In practice, this makes it a lot harder to substitute edgeguard against good opponents because you’re gonna have to knock them offstage far enough to force the diagonal recovery angle that substitute will catch. But when it happens it’s pretty sick!
Watching this in .25 playback speed makes the video billion times better.
So glad substitute is actually viable now. Never thought of using it as an edgeguarding tool.

Sometimes when I use this technique to spike and I pull it off successfully I die as well.
How do you make it back to stage consistently after a straight down spike?
It depends on your specific location when the substitution ends. If he's too far below the ledge, going for a straight down will get you killed as well. This is why PhaZ went for a diagonal down more times than straight down, because he wouldn't be low enough to be unable to recover.
It's important to note too that even if you can still move after the straight down spike, you NEED Greninja's double jump combined with his Hydro Pump to make it back to the ledge.

Depends on the location.Try to use your recovery crashing sideways into the stage and you'll recover easily.

It's amazing with recoveries that have massive hitboxes, recoveries that would otherwise be very hard to interrupt
Sub is actually so good against projectile spam, or even just a surprise attack against stray hitboxes like that pikachu clip. Can we still combo off of it, or is it all strings? Regardless, it’s so much better now, because it actually does what it’s supposed to do.

Any move that doesn't have a Hit Box will leave Greninja without anything to counter, so no, it won't work.
You can still down air spike him though. :P

@@AeroLeaf4 Well, he DID get nerfed in 3.0.0. According to the patch notes, Water Shuriken now deals less shield damage, wich considering it F* never did any shield damage to begin with even fully charged, it probably means it now somehow heals the shield on impact, I guess.
@@joanaguayoplanell4912 projectiles dealing less shield damage is a universal nerf for the majority characters with projectiles. Yes it was a nerf, but it has no significance, although I do suppose it is worse at poking shields since it's a multi hit when fully charged. Also, I don't recall knowing any move that heals shields, they just refill when not shielding.

No, because the only hitbox in inkling's recovery is the splash upon landing. If they upB to the ledge you can't counter the move.
No.Inklings hitboxes is only from the landing.
Greninja has the best counter because its the first counter that can combo into up air and can change its directions

what buttons do you press to do this move.
It's down + b, or in general down + the special button, to go into counter pose. After that, if you get hit Greninja will automatically disappear and then come out again to kick the opponent. You can change the direction from where he appears with your stick
so down B haa that's what that move is. that counter. I play on my friends switch so I could test when ever I wanted. so I asked. thank you.

I did this with every character.
You'll need to think on which height you're using the move.
If you're most likely under the whole stage,you'll die in the spike.Try to do it at a higher height.

Olivier Bajet This is propably because you do it too low and then angle it directly down. Try it higher or angle the attack slightly left or right. Also make sure to have a double jump!

Substitute now has complete intangibility on the kick (which comes out even faster than before) plus has a mini slow-down effect on it to make the attack connect much easier. ◥θ┴θ◤b

In Smash 4, unlike other counters, Greninja wasn't invulnerable during the attack. It was possible to hit the frog before he reappeared, which is why Substitite wasn't used as an edgeguard tool that often. KERO shows this in his video Frog Life, which shows off many design oddities for Greninja in Smash 4.
