Alastor Gets Angry (..but I made it TERRIFYING)

- Took a lot of notes from the original Hazbin Hotel pilot, helped in making the scene sound more intense. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely adore this scene, but I felt like I could make it a tad bit better, so I tried..
..and here is what came out..
The edit was mostly on the audio side, with only small changes (except for that glitch part) on the visual side. I did this purely out of fun, and I hope that you enjoyed it too. I am not an audio designer by any means, so feel free to critique!
All of the sounds were sourced from freesound.org, edited in Davinci Resolve.
#hazbinhotel #hazbinhoteledit #hazbinhotelalastor
Pro tip: wear headphones to notice the difference, the MAJORITY of the edit is in the audio
that was actually terrifying
Heck yeah it is...wearing headphones make the experience even better
That was bone chilling! Great suggestion!
I love how you brought back the blinking red screen from the pilot.
That was a very nice touch there.
Me too
I love how PISSED he gets but as soon as he asserts his dominance he's all polite and chummy like it never even happened
Same dude
Fr. It gives me a chill that his "gentle" behavior is just a mask to hide his true form of the deadliest overlord
@minss223 is he the deadliest overlord? He rose to power quickly but I'm not sure if he is the most dangerous
@@pinecone7618 Well, I'm probably wrong about the deadliest, but he did slay a lot of overlords that were existing for centuries. I guess that makes him VERY powerful compared to the other overlords. I'm positive he can become the most powerful overlord after a few hundred years.
If you check out the "Therapist Reacts" she goes over Alastor being a Socio/Psychopath and how he nails certain traits and why, exactly, he reacts that way.
really touches on horror movie style where 90% of the “horror” is just music and sound effects
fr
lmao
I know right like those “real” T-rex sounds are the sound of fear once the volume is up
It fits perfectly since Alastor is retro
the show is not even meant to be horror
0:13 The screams or what i think are screams when he tightens the chain just shows his experience in evil
I think that is like a replay of what he has done before
no i think its a reference to him broadcasting the screams of overlords when he first came
The Wendigo.
phd in evil
Yeah, damn!
Not too over the top but with noticeable changes that don't take away from the voice acting, amazing edit
Thank you!! I have much to learn on audio designing, but for what it's worth, I'm happy with the outcome
@DownrestYTP Is there a good place to learn? I'm also pretty interested in audio engineering like this. Hazbin Hotel's sound designs are pretty amazing and it's inspired me.
I would tone it down a lil imo in the monster form because it gets distracting. Of course it's my opinion but ye.
I agree. It really fit the aesthetic of alastor, I thought as well.
Yea I did love the pilot voice actor though I felt like he would’ve killed this
I would’ve LOVED for Alastor to give us a sample of the screams he collected !
You should be on a list 👀
@@KaiLegendsmith
What ????? Whyyyyyyyyy ????? XDDDD
Omg same I bet there's thousands
S2 I think we’re gonna see that and a member or 2 of the Vees is going to join that list
@@DrWatson4 OOOOOHHHHH !!! I SO WANNA SEE THAT AAAHHH!!!
It's a shame that there hasn't yet been a moment of Alastor that's surpassed "I would have done so already".
This scene
i’d like to think they toned him down so he could go batshit in the next season
@@AfroGothixa I would love for that to happen, especially with that one part of the last episode 👀
God, pausing during that scene is definitely ill-advised lol 😅
I'm hoping we get more scenes like that in season 2
@@AfroGothixa Viv wanted him to initially be a background character, so I think he's gonna be gassed up S2 or S3
is no one gonna talk abt the way husk shakes at the end is adorable
And sad. I felt so bad for Husker, he looked so terrified. Especially in the way he started shaking. It broke my heart :(
Me tooo i find it so cute (in radio voice)
He’s adorable but I felt so bad for him :( he’s so terrified
HES ADORABLE I FELT SO BAD FOR HIM OMG
@@ThePersonWhoActuallyAsked REAL 😭
I keep forgetting he's not just quirky old-timey character, he's a lunatic who killed 50 people on earth and who knows how many in hell
Uhm, 50 people? Where is that said? Just finished Hazin and I'm hungry for lore!
@gordonfrommalmak well, I'm not that knowledgeable in hazbin lore outside of alastor, but apparently, he was a serial killer (a damn good one too) who managed to kill 50 people before he was killed after murdering the 50th. Afterwards, he went on a ramapage in hell, murdering overlords and broadcasting their screams to declare his presence and demonstrate his power. Earning his title, The Radio Demon.
@the_man_you_have_searched_for
Is this established in the pilot? I just found out there's a pilot that wasn't on Amazon Prime .
@gordonfrommalmak nope. This is what I gathered from other verified external media outside the pilot and show.
@@the_man_you_have_searched_for Yeah, Viv tends to have a bad habit of telling rather than showing with some of her lore.
In the pilot, specially the one where Alastor goes like " i would have done so " was honestly so terrifying and i wished they could have done that voice effect more on the show.
Honestly, it's not even funny how many things the pilot did better.
Hahahahhaha truee
Ironically they tried to do the same scary effect, but there were so many attempts that it just wore itself out.
If they didn't push it in almost every episode and did just this chain scene it would've caused more reaction
@@maquert1678Finally someone who gets It. Alastor doesn't feel like Alastor on the show, he's always edgy and menacing and never goofy
@@sandia_jugarsuelo no wonder the show Alastor feels different than the pilot one, a slight modification on his pilot personality did a great number on him in the end
I LOVE the added radio static just before he turns peppy again. It really shows he can switch off the "evil". But it's still always there with his regular radio voice.
0:13 The screams remind me how Alastor used the screams of the other overlords he has killed for his radio broadcast that should've definitely been apart of the actual episode like he made him hear the screams and reminded him what he will do to him if he disobeys/question him
Edit: 100 LIKES!? THAT'S MORE THAN I EVER HAD BEFORE THANKS
That was the point of the editing. The screams represent the screams of the overlords.
He sounded terrifyingly congested
lmafo
It's cold season down in hell
The Mid-Atlantic accent is very nasally.
The colors for some reason feel a lot more sharper. It just looks great
Pilot vibes, and i fucking love it.
This is the first time that i've seen someone using a pitched down voice in Alastor THAT SOUNDS GOOD
Excellent job!
In my opinion, he just needs that to sound scary, like when he defends the hotel from the Loan Shark's attack and he says he's going to eat and devour everyone, THAT'S scary, THIS is scary
Ikr that sounds terrifying
It gives the perfect touch of horror for Alastors character, the screams in the background from the souls he's killed to the jump of green static and glitches just as the chain snaps is stunning. Then straight after the screams start. The slight deepening in his voice at the end is amazing as well. This is gold 🤩
That “Lovely” was menacing
It kinda had the same raspiness that the green goblin had in spectacular Spider-Man
Honestly the little ragtime tune at the end is the best part. Really makes ya laugh at such a juxtaposition of mood he just goes through.
Honestly, the scariest part of this is Alestors old-timey music winding back as he snaps out of the rage and into his radio personality again. It's uncanny.
genuinely, the hazbin team dropped the ball on Alastor's spook factor. Aside from the end of Stayed Gone, hes not scary or creepy or anything like that 95% of the rest of the series. His pilot counterpart was just as friendly and charming on the surface, but was capable of actually being spooky. I miss Pilot Alastor.
I mean, season 2 could be where alastor gets more… spooky.
He says himself in his solo verse in the Finale song
“Great Alastor, Altruist, died for his friends”
he has built attachments, and wants to lose them
so season two could be the time for spooky alastor
@@WarTie youre interpretation of his line in Finale is just kinda wrong, Im sorry. Hes just mocking people like the Vees and Charlie who think he died a hero. Thats why he follows it up with “that is NOT where this ENDS” and claws through his desk. The idea he might be revered as an altruist of sorts after death pisses him off. He mentions earlier in the episode that even he sees how easy it could be to get accustomed to the misfits at the hotel, but theres no confirmation of him feeling hes actually attached or if he is being upset with those feelings. Alastor has friends, believe it or not, like Rosie. His entire plan with the hotel also correlates with him building a solid relationship with Charlie.
@@TheDangerNoodle People have different interpretations. My interpretation is that he finds his attachments with hotel in general as a weakness. (The “This is NOT where this ENDS” line following sort of being him saying he hasn’t given up, whether it be on the hotel or his own desire is unknown.) Your interpretation is a good one, just not what I believe, we’ll only see once the next season comes out. Until then, have a great day, fellow idiot.
@@TheDangerNoodle I always interpreted it as a double meaning of both options. He was mocking the hypothetical headlines while also stating that the gloves are about to come off.
They removed almost all of Alastor’s humor factor, including the sounds and things like his cane speaking. I miss pilot Alastor too.
that "understood" "Lovely :)" is both so cute and terrifying
I love how when he’s mad it sounds like an analog radio with static, but then once he asserts his authority he goes back to chipper mood with cheery 20s music.
this was awesome, I love the sounds of the lights shutting off, the underlying horror style background music, the slight and then heavy demonic undertone to his voice. And the screaming chain bit, mwah chef's kiss. This was awesome, please do more (maybe with vox, lucifer or adam).
This is better than original
Voicemod has this effect when you turn on Radio Demon and click the "Evil" option that will turn your voice like that, basically like a 2nd mode.
It was 2-4 dollars on a promo for a lifetime premium subscription once, idk if that's still on.

@@adamk-paxlogan7330Sucks
Let’s be honest here, if Hazbin Hotel wasn’t three years in the making with a hungry audience, the show would’t’ve had nearly as good a reception from watchers.
@@adamk-paxlogan7330Sucksno u
(dont get me wrong i love the series)
It really goes to show how well done the original scene was when the changes you added are just icing on the cake.
This is what happens when, Keith David is dealing with demons but isn't Spawn or Chaos(Dissidia Final Fantasy)
I love the idea that his anti-screen powers stretch all the way through the 4th wall. We’re watching him on the very thing he hates the most
I’m enjoying people’s varying enhancements to this scene. Really shows the creativity of fans of the series.
I like that the background audio is distorted.
Fun fact about Radio Signals: Boosting them does not make them clearer, it amplifies everything, including background noise. So the idea that Alastor grows angrier and the background distortion picks up clearer is the equivalent to an RF Power Surge.
Oh my god, THIS is what the series was missing! That feel that the original pilot had! I would LOVE to see a complete redo of the series in this style that's so similar to the pilot!
Hope they amp up his radio noises in season 2, felt very lacking with it, especially when he was suppose to be frightening.
Well done on this
okay but the glitch at 0:13 was SUCH a nice touchh
I was rewatching the pilot and I noticed how more threatening Alastor seemed in the part “I would have done so already” and I feel like they could have done the same affects for some of the parts in here too and it would have made it fantastic 🤩
the way husk shivered after Alastor doing that shows to prove how scary asf he is when u piss him off.
The extra screams & added horror sounds REALLY made it extra terrifying. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
this is phenomenal, I wish this was in the real show. One of the only changes I disliked was how much they toned down Alastor’s creepy factor, and this brought it right back.
I love this. The addition of some screen effects aswel as his voice being more intense over the softer screams to give you that feeling he's above all of those souls, control of all of them and doesn't mind adding another. Satisfying, well done.
-"Understand"
-"Lovely"
This one got me, but his english voice is so nice😂❤
Wow this actually much better than the original one
This looks great! I really hoped they would go extra creepy with the scenes, whenever he transforms and being aggressive. Maybe, they're playing it safe or were limited by the Amazon in terms of show direction, but the contrast between regular scenes and these ones would emphasize so much how malevolent this character can get, because rn it's borderline amusing.
Come on, this show was brought by A24, we all knew they were gonna do some terrifying shit
Edit: Where did you people come from?!
I just want the next season to have more of the Pilot's "Dear if I wanted to hurt anyone here I would have done so already" kind of moments, that was amazing.
@@coreo6688 Well with Vox being center stage as the main villians we very well might see Alastor reap some carnage
That was the moment I was hooked on the show and Alastor. @@coreo6688
this is not that scary but ok
@@hexagon2185getting reported for toxicity and spam. But ok.
Nice touch of the screams since it’s theorised that he was hundreds of souls trapped in the radio wave
Dude this is actually alot more better into the vibe then the actual scene
I also like the irony that the predator is a deer demon and the prey is a cat demon.
omg imagine if that was what we got for that scene thats so terrifying sent shivers down my bones
Like husk? 💀
I love how fast alastor's mod changes for very mad to acting like nothing happened
This is a pretty good sound design, this is actually how I remember the scene sounding
I actually really love just that little change to the scene! When Alastor pulls on the chains, the screams of everyone he's taken scream louder! 😮❤💚
I wish they'd done this in the show, this version feels more threatening, especially when Alastor pulls the chains and the screen glitches! 😆
Could be worse. At least Alastor let it go once his point was made. He's a much better patron than Valentino. Oh, and good job on the distortion. Works much better with the scene.
Hell yeah!! I adored how they did this scene, it's so cool seeing Alastor bear his "fangs" for the first time (..only for him to get his own Gojo Satoru treatment 😭😭)
Anyways made this video mostly because I wanted to test myself on the audio aspect, by no means am I trying to say that "I'm better than A24" or anything absurd like that. It was fun to make, and I'm glad you liked it too!
I feel like Valentino and Alastor are opposites in how they handle their overlord title. Valentino definitely shows more emotional and physical abuse. He gets more visibly angry and wears his emotions openly. Alastor, in my opinion, is worse though. Where Valentino is invested in Angel Dust, Alastor doesn't appear to care what happens to his contracted souls and will get rid of you the moment you stop being useful.
Thanks for making one of these types of videos that doesn't absolutely ruin the scene
0:14 Was a perfect touch! Nice editing
I think you struck a great balance here! The distortion increasing specifically on the "every other disrespectful WRETCH" line sounded great and I loved the part where they screen went green and glitched
The edit was so nice! They should’ve added that to Hazbin Hotel it was more terrifying than the actual episode!
I nearly jumped at the part when al says ''tear your soul apart''
*"-RETCH, WHO DARES TO QUESTION ME 👹👹👹*
"Understood..."
"lovely 🤭"
Alaster: Ha ha, good talk, my good man. Always nice to catch up.😁
Husk: 😰
Part of me wants to imagine that Alastor just _UNIRONICALLY TOLD SPAWN TO NOT PISS HIM OFF LIKE AS IF IT WAS TUESDAY!_
my feet literally spasmed, this triggered my fight or flight fr
I really like your take on that scene ! It’s not so much different but just enough to make it noticeable and to add a little spicy horror, amazing job you did here
I will NEVER forgive alastor for making my little baby scared like that
Nor will I
I think I lost a couple heartbeats, after watching this. Top-tier terror edit.
Love this edit (it really fits better than the original)! ^^
Reminds me of when Stolas possessed one of the secret government agents in Helluva Boss (a scene that also made my horror nerd heart happy)! ^^
I shivered at this, you really did make it more terrifying! Good job!
Bro idk how but you just made him more fine 😭
This is perfect!!! Just what the show needed! Good job!!
i like how husk or whatever his name is absolutely shits his ass from fear
I wish the cartoon had this editing and they should hire you lmao. The musical numbers were phenomenal but the tone and mood of the cartoon itself could use some care and attention.
This is more better!!
AGREE!!!!
Gotta love how Alistair when he's angry he is terrifying and you can visibly see it in husks face that he screwed up and as soon as husk apologizes Alistair just goes back to being all happy as if nothing happened meanwhile husk is laying on the floor traumatized😂
Alastor: So... How terrifying do you want to make this?
Downrest: *YES*
I absolutely love the upgrades you made!
👏 👏 😁
His amplified voice especially!
you shout put WEAR headphones, i had only one in and got nothing, but i put two in and turned the volume all the way up, gave me goosebumps.
The screams in the background and settle changes are what make this amazing
The way poor Husk trembles on the floor
This is just amazing and nightmare fuel at the same time.
Husk was absolutely terrified 😮
Every body gangsta till husk turns into spawn
I watched that scene & that part scared my mom & gave her nightmares, sorry mom, not sorry lol
Love the effects!
I love how it goes from him being mad as hell to the jolly old music XD
I love how this scene is the main reason "being humbled" is listed as one of his dislikes on his official wiki page lmao
Bro... vizzie ought to add you on her team with the level of detail you added to the scene, it made it feel so bone chilling and intense
I was telling the screen, Try me, scare me, I just finished a stranger things episode.
O-o
**oh hell naw...**
I would've PISSED my pants!
Alastor felt like he was gonna kill husker him self
Holy shit they should hire you as a consultant. God damn.

I wanna hear Alastors effect voice without the scream it sounds so good
This is an AMAZING edit, both visually and by sound design. I wish that’s how that part was in the show, it fits perfectly
Haha! Good talk my good man, always nice to catch up.
rip husk but personally this would make me fall in love
Ive always enjoyed how intimidating, and gangster alaster is in this scene. That now hes like a pimped out poltergeist With just a splish splash of psychosis.
Love the side effects and the little song in the end, it matches him so well
Got some "Shining" vibes there
Someone should hire you because you made this 10 times better and terrifying
Is it bad that I wished that they used this in the official episode or took this scene in this video’s direction?
Also, well done! Definitely gave me such intimidated chills as the original!!
"TERRIFYING" *(meme of Spongebob and Patrick on a rollercoaster)*
As an intermediate audio designer, this is actually not too bad!!
My only nitpick is that when Alastor turns to his large demon form, the deeper voice layer is just a lil bit too loud.
Other than that, really good! I see potential.
Agreed haha, I have much to learn and that honestly excites me.
I'd probably tone down the screaming aswell when Alastor starts talking so as to shift the focus to what he's saying instead of the external sound effects.
@@DownrestYTP good job
