if you want to trace the cable or copper pipe under ground... black cable connect to the soil, red cable connect to cable or copper pipe.. you can detect 2meters deep

Could you advice when testing, can the circuit be live or it have to be dead?

Looks to be very similar to the Fluke 2042 but with a larger display. The transmitter codes are useful for detecting the exact location of a break on a ring circuit since the receiver will sense the transmitter code at each side of the break.

Thanks for the review. it´s not cheap but´s very useful

Buenas noches, ése comprobador es una copia barata China.
El original tiene que poner Mastech, y el acabado es como de goma tanto el emisor como el receptor.
    Un saludo desde España

Can u actual do a test mate like a real wire in a ground

Just did this today... connected the black lead to the included Earth Spike.. connected the red lead to one end of the underground cable.. worked like a charm tracing the path for the buried cable.
Turns out I'll have to dig up the whole run and re-do it properly..

I bought one and I'm disappointed. It works fine on a test bench, but detecting an underground cable, no go. I buried a shielded cable a few years ago, not deeper that 30cm with the end close to the surface. I forgot exactly where it is and need to find it without digging up the whole area. The MS6818 looses the signal as soon as the cable enters the ground. Play around with the sensitivity and on the one setting it detects nothing, and one level up the alarm sounds continuously, even when I hold it in the air.
This is a piece of crap, and Customs even made me pay R522,36 import duties on top of the price.

Henk van Biljon I think maybe something might be defective. the unit we had tested quiet well. deepest we went was just under a meter. Connecting it.up did take some trial and error. we also had to ensure cable was not grounded.or ground shielded which is odd seeing as it measures through ground. Shrug. how where you connecting to the cable. I'd be interested to know of defect.

Henk van Biljon basically the way it worked was to ensure we where not passing signal to ground but rather in cable only. otherwise close ground becomes active to the unit.

Mine traces at least 12" perhaps more but the cables I'm tracing aren't buried to code depth.
Works like a charm.. and BTW the signal strength tone / indicators act like a guiding light..
      Great Tool !!

The problem might be the shielding in your case. It doesn't let the signal through the shielding, which is its role after all.

Black on conductive spike in ground Red on the shield....
Detectable as a conducting "Pipe" instead of a shielded cable :+)
