I think the result of Doña Cecilia was hilarious but after that I felt bad for her, she didn't mean to ruin it. (Although after that epic fail, a lot of people went to visit that town only to see the picture.) I love you say no T no shade because, yeah it looks terrible.. indeed but you were respectful. And your project was very creative. And yes I'm an old subscriber so I know you're really talented and also love when you you tap the materials with your nails haha
I’m sure she meant well and went into it thinking it was a much simpler task than what it was. For whatever reason, she quickly found herself well over her head and tried her best to save what grace she could. It’s extremely difficult to match another artist’s style and on something so well known and loved by her town, the pressure must have been immense. I feel sad that she’s been so heavily mocked and ridiculed for simply trying to do a good deed for her church.
I agree some people are quite cruel with Cecilia but to be honest the original painter (not that he deserve his work ruin) no one know about him until now... not only that, her "upsie" bring a lot of people to the otherwise unknown little church and town, wich means money for them
@Al X. Andra it might not have been an ego thing. She might have thought she could do a good job. Because she isnt a bad artist. She might not have art restoration is much harder than just regular painting (all so hard). She was probably embarrassed by how badly it was turning out
Funny story actually. From what I remember- the church was going through a financial crisis, after the retouching of the painting, it became a hot spot for tourism. The shitty painting actually saved the church yet the lady who drew it suffered from anxiety due to online harassment. Bittersweet story
Anybody could copy something. What's important is the original. If they could remove the paint layer and do a proper retouching yes it would be good but painting over it has no purpose what so ever.
I think the main thing about the original "restoration" the lady tried to do, is you don't restore a painting by painting over it. Or repainting it. Or recreating it. You just fill in the tiny little white spots and nothing else. Painting conservation is all about never altering or covering up the original paint, only what is lost. I don't think the lady understood that, hence entirely drawing over it. What's funny is that in order to undo what she did, you actually do have to entirely redraw it, and I appreciate you for doing that LOL
Your restoring looks way better. I'm glad that you weren't harsh on Cecilia's efforts and that you pointed out that she does have other art that's good. I remember hearing how terrible Cecilia felt when faced with her flub, and I'm just glad you were kind and fair about it. ^u^
Cecelia's other work looks pretty good! Maybe she didn't have much experience with people. They should've invited her to paint something new, not restore something.
