So, for something a bit different, got inspired to use/mangle the La Folia chord progression for the verse after watching the David Bennet Piano video on the subject. Using that as a starting point, I built up song structure - including the 4 bar pre-chorus to give a taste for the bridge. I also wanted the whole song to have the feeling of continually pushing forward - hence the continual hi-hats to act as a continual pulse that dragged everything else along.
