It was an engineering feat that this engine survived. Skaife somehow kept the pace up, using as little throttle as possible to look after the boiling engine. It was no doubt the difference in the end. Good luck or good management, they got the job done.
Thanks for posting. Unfortunately I missed the 02 race as i was deployed to East Timor. There was no streaming back in those days, internet was pretty sparce up near the border between Batugate and Balibo.
There were gusts of wind all over the place and I admit that the #1 HRT Commodore survived a race-ending scare, plastic bags were stuck onto the radiator intake and by then the oil temperature and coolant gauge went off the scale according to the data on the dashboard.
I remember this well it was blowing a gale on the mountain, sh*t was flying around everywhere, Jim said we we were a bunch of very nice people & l had to do the walk of shame back to St Pats because l am a Ford fan… if you know you know.
