One of the reasons I love Dir en Grey is because every song, every performance, you have to take it in. It is not light listening, for sure. Man, I love these guys.
That livestream was terrifying and amazing to watch when it was broadcast. A full live to an empty room, and Kyo was consummate, completely immersed in whatever place he goes to do this. He totally inhabits the song. I agree with all the recommendations already here. Vinushka is a must, and Hageshisa shows amazing crowd connection. There's links in the other comments. Another band worth checking out, considerably smaller, but making waves in the vk scene, is Kizu. Another pint sized vocalist of exceptional quality. Mostly cleans, but of a huge range and power. Kizu - Kizuato is a good introduction. Kizu - Kizuato ruclips.net/video/ed3jUnPhuaU/видео.html
What blows me away with him is the power and diversity in his voice and his stage presence is phenomenal. I saw them in 08, and this man is only just under 5'3 and quite quiet and an introvert. When you watch them you can't have your eyes on anything but him, again his presence is just insane you don't even realize he's shorter. I've been a fan of them since I was 13 so about 2004 and they are probably my top favorite band. You'll never find another like them and the passion is incredible. You feel everything and each album is an experience. Edited to add as others have said, watch this live of vinushka you won't regret it ruclips.net/video/8W0h2yht6IA/видео.html
I think it's a pretty heavy track for someone new to Dir en Grey. Vinushka ruclips.net/video/8W0h2yht6IA/видео.html is a masterpiece by this band and I think it's the best track if you are just discovering Dir en Grey. In this song, Kyo also shows almost the entire range of vocal skills, while not being as shocking as the one here.
I second the requests for Vinushka and Hagashisa, they're both Amazing, brilliant tracks with a Lot to recommend them - and are a bit less of a head twist than World of Mercy. Your heartfelt "What the fuck is going on" is Wholly appropriate, lol Added note: if you Love Kyo's voice (especially upper range) and want to hear another ridiculous showcase of it, try the song Elisabeth Addict from his band sukekiyo. Mind-blowing.
This band has had an interesting career trajectory going from somewhat poppy goth rock (1997-2002) to Nu Metal (2003-2007) to Prog/Death metal (2008-2015) to whatever they are now (thrashy art metal? they added back in some of the nu metal too). Imo, they made three perfect albums in a row, Uroboros (2008), Dum Spiro Spero (2011) and Arche (2014), listen to those.
Wat 😅🤣 visual kei is a completely different thing from preppy goth rock. What even is that haha. But I do agree they’ve gotten Americanized throughout the years and as much as I love them I miss the visual Kei diru every day which we saw a glimpse of their old selves in world of mercy ❤️
@@lekkycharms Visual Kei is a direct outgrowth of goth rock. Bands like Buck-Tick, Der Zibet, Luna Sea, Boowy, Kuroyume, VIrus, etc all were directly influenced by UK goth bands like the Cure, Sisters of Mercy, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Bauhaus, Sex Gang Children, etc. While X Japan and Dead End might have been speed/prog metal, the predominant sound of 90s VK (including the first few DEG releases) was this aforementioned goth rock sound.
When I first told you about this band I said they were super unique and not unlike any other. That was not an exaggeration in the slightest. My biggest suggestion at this point is to go through their entire discog (Gauze-Insulated world) as album 11 is coming out this summer titled Philaris and you will get flooded with requests from that album as this song is most likely on this album and this band tends to be very experimental with their modern stuff so expect something unheard before.

You're kind of in the deep end with this track, but personally I'm in love with this performance and song, I think it hits many emotions and meanings perfectly and it is my favorite live performance from them in this period between their 10th and recently announced 11th album. I’d like to recommend something from Dir en grey that is less dramatic both in the stage performance and the structure of the song that might be good for you to experience as it sounds more straight forward and will allow you to get a different look at the band and that is the song ‘Hageshisa...’ ruclips.net/video/Xb3WwNIIzwM/видео.html That video is subtitled and contains Kyo hyping up the audience at the beginning before they play the song and I’d recommend watching that part as well. Thank you for considering!
if you like her vocal dynamics, you should definitely listen to vinushka live concert Androgynos. I think that's where he gets most of his vocal ranges. I hope you can react.
DIR EN GREY are on a level of their own 😀 Really special. And speaking of different...I would love to hear your opinion of Jilukas Ablaze. And I think I've already suggested the chinese band Scarlet Horizon too? Their song Crown is really good. Love from Sweden 🇸🇪
Dir en grey is an acquired taste that gets better over time and with more listens. No one else like them. They've evolved so much over the years and now they're just in their own section of the metal world creating crazy weird shit for fun.
Ah yes.. my preciousy diru. Nothing strange here, instead of that half baked stuff that is mostly around.. dir en grey doesn´t only hold up the mirror the the face of society to show the ugly truth. They ram the shit down your throat until you can´t close your eyes before it anymore. Yeah a bit poetic, but still.. the style that kyo uses is basicly to "overdo it a tat" so the message comes across a "wee bit" more understandable.
One thing people needs to know, is that his vocal is insanely strong and loud. He doesn't need to cup the mic but he just does it for further making his vocal expression more precise in a way. I think this song's concept might have something to do with emotional pain of getting bullied or isolated? Not sure
I'd like to recommend a few other great tracks from DEG, and absolutely continue to use Kaya's videos, she's a gem! Rinkaku Diabolos Amon Uroko (but I personally think studio is a better than the lives) Phenomenon Bugaboo Magayasou Honestly we could all suggest songs ALL DAY, but these have a lot of great stuff going on and most I haven't seen recommended to you yet. Happy listening!
This band is sooo amazing and Kyo got so freaking good over the years. Please do more DEG! Just a little advise, never listen to their studio stuff, it's quite different from their live performances and those are way better because you literally can feel the emotions in them.
Gotta understand the emotion of the lyric. Otherwise it's almost impossible to understand their music. Their concept is mainly about emotional pain. And different types of emotional pain for each song.
Hi, I'm your new subscriber. :) Can I recommend another Visual Kei band? My favourite band ever. If you can, please react to band The Gazette and their song "Undying" or "Blinding Hope", it will be great if you react to them. :)

A really good suggestion and such a great song. Well besides that 1:30 min long chit-chat nonesense in the beginning. ^^
this my friend is not a strange one, its pure art, not just screams and noise like most metal bands
