Doing an all-time Kansas Jayhawk list is so HARD! Because there is so much talent that SOMEBODY is going to be left off. Kansas has since won two national championships under Bill Self. But I really love this list. So I’m going to have to revise this list.
I'm going with a big, but extremely athletic, lineup. My KU lineup is a matchup nightmare and will beat your college's all-time team lineup... Yes, even you North Carolina! In that game the only matchup that doesn't go my way is The Truth versus His Airness, and even the difference between those two in the whole scheme of things is negligible. Definitely in Jordan's favor overall obviously. But there is no front 3 in the history of college basketball that can match up with this big set. I'm sure most will go with a scoring point guard (which is perfectly fine and totally understandable) but there's only one problem with that. My point guard isn't here to score points... He's here to set up everybody else, break any pressure you might be thinking of with your dream team and a potential press, and rendering your point guard largely irrelevant on our defensive end. C - Wilt Chamberlain PF - Danny Manning SF - Joel Embiid SG - Paul Pierce PG - Jacque Vaughn
Chad Hallack I like your proposal and I would counter that UCLA could matchup with them: C Lew Alcindor F Bill Walton F Don McLean G Reggie Miller G Pooh Richardson That lineup could defend your monster front line with McLean at 6’10” the exact same height as Manning and an elite scorer. I’d probably go Sidney Wicks or Ed O’Bannon if I wasn’t trying to matchup with your size. Point Guard could go a couple ways, Gail Goodrich or Tyus Edney would both be great but I’m just partial to Richardson who can defend, distribute and was a knock down three point shooter.
Jo Jo White is a great suggestion for Point Guard. Truthfully for me, he was hurt by the fact that they did not keep track of steals and assists when he played. He ranks 29th in scoring which is higher than Vaughn, and his per game average was superior to Hinrich. But I don't have a comparison available for steals and assists, which are areas the other two are strong in. Really Aaron Miles put up the biggest numbers, and I left him off as well. If I weighted pro career more, White would certainly have the advantage there!
JoJo would have been my second choice but with the players surrounding my point guard I decided to go with Bond because of his ball handling skills where JoJo was a little more turnover-prone and as a defensive specialist that would not be needed to score points and JoJo as great as he was extremely doing the ball was more of a hybrid and what eventually led to almost predominantly to scoring point guards to which Jacque Vaughn was a throwback. A 50's and 60s style point guard with 21st century athleticism playing in the mid-90s. Point guard was the toughest choice for me by far. My top 5 is 1) Vaughn 2) White, T3) Sherron Collins/Frank Mason 4) Kirk Heinrich
@@chadhallack9675 Of all the qualities guards must have--shooting, ball handling, quickness, speed, defense, vision, etc., Jo Jo White is #1 in very category among all KU guards. No one (except Valentine) comes close. He had the misfortune of playing for a below average coach at KU He was a 7 time NBA All Star, Finals MVP, his number retired by the Celtics, Olympic Gold, and in the Naismith HoF.
PG Kirk Henrich.....SG Paul Piece.....SF Danny Manning.....PF Clyde Lovellette.....C Wilt Chamberlain Bench- Raef LaFrentz, Nick Collison, Jo Jo White, Darnell Valentine.
Let’s see 1st team PG JoJo White SG Mario Chalmers PF Danny Manning SF Paul Pierce C Wilt Chamberlin 2nd team PG Kirk Hinrich SG Devonte Graham PF Nick Collision SF Brandon Rush C Raef LaFrentz Third team and this is it. PG Sherron Collins/Frank Mason SG Remy Martin PF Darrell Arthur SF Christian Braun C Thomas Robinson Head Coach: Bill Self
This team has size, speed, chemistry, offense, defense, and height too. It even has some underrated players like Remy Martin and Christian Braun, two players who helped the 2022 Kansas Jayhawks team get to their 16th final four overall and winning their 4th national championship overall.
Sherron is my favorite player ive seen don a ku uniform. i have not trusted a player to shoot a deep three like hime since. Heinrich and collison closely follow
First off i hate the Jayhawks...but totally RESPECT them, Im an ARIZONA WILDCAT! But what about good ol' RAEF LeFRENTZ he avg. 25.6 senior year and JACQUE VAUGN was a pain in my ass! great players much respect!
Its a good list, but I would go with Brandon Rush instead of Milt, defense and rebounding he was better, Ron Kellogg instead of Rex, but a lot great players hard to choose the right one.
Rush was definitely on my radar, I ultimately gave the nod to Newton for his school best 3 point shooting and clutch championship play, but that could certainly go either way. Kellogg is a great call, wish he'd played with a 3-point line because he could really shoot. He and Walters both had 2 really good years, and I thought of him as more of a small forward but I guess he did play some off-guard. Thanks for bringing him up!
Don't know who compiled this but could at least get the player positions and names correct? Lovellette was a center not a power forward (La Frentz was actually a PF and Pollard was the C). Hinrich was a 2 guard 01-03 (Miles was the PG) and those were both final 4 years. Also, How do you pick Newton who would not have even started on the '88 team if Archie Marshall had not been injured? You picked Rex Walters over Hinrich (I guess if you thought he was a PG), White (He played the 2 at KU) who were both AAs (White was first team) when Rex was not even Honorable Mention. Vaughn was not a bad choice, but I would have gone for First Team AA Darnell Valentine.
Bill Bridges, Jo Jo White. Walt Wesley, Clyde Lovelette, Darnell Valentine? Valentine and White, way better than Rex and Kirk. I think they had a rebounding award named after Bridges. Oh well. You know what they say about opinions. Everybody's got one. Good video and thanks for doing a Kansas all time great.
Thanks for the comment and for watching! I knew Rex Walters would generate a fair amount of disagreement. But since I felt like there wasn't a definitive choice at shooting guard I went with him because I personally saw him play a lot against teams I was rooting for, and I felt like he just never missed an open shot.
We are talking about different eras. Chalmers was a ball hog. He was a lot like JoJo White. Chalmers hit the biggest shot in Ku history. No way he’s left off this list

@@coleperry2446 Wiggins wasn't that good, Embiid was obviously the best player on that team. Embiid didn't even play one full season at Kansas. I think KU wins the National Championship if Embiid doesn't get injured.
God no! Wiggins nor Embiid didn’t play long enough. I didn’t even have Josh Jackson on my list. All-time players are players who have played at least 3 or more years, played in final fours, won national championships, and regular season titles and more.
Thanks for this!
My favorites are Sasha Kaun and Jeff Withey.

He chose hinrich before the reign of NPOY Frank Mason
Honestly you could go with either one. Hinrich was a badass. Mason was a tough player. He had a fabulous NPOY season.
Great list can u update it
First on Hall of Fame ballots and now on RUclips. Is everyone forgetting the existence of Jo Jo White?
