I lived in NOLA, and spent a couple of awful weeks in one of those trailers. The smell of formaldehyde was overwhelming, and I had constant headaches. I left the trailer to sleep in my car. Now I see 2 of the sub-humans that facilitated the illnesses of myself, and my neighbor's, in Our darkest hour of need feelin all bad about it 😣 These 2, along with their co-workers, and bosses, need to be tried, and sentenced to live in these trailers. And for what? A short term paycheck... America SUCKS!

The RV companies have known about this formaldehyde problem for a long time before this crisis occurred. I have an 02 travel trailer that I bought new and had it tested just last fall. It came in 20 x the safe level of Formaldehyde (CDC). When I first got it, I couldn't even spend 10 mins in it without my eyes and throat burning, just with a few days closed up. Dealer said it's standard vapor release from materials. In time it will pass, maybe 6 months. Nope, try 6 yrs and still going strong!
I'm so sorry for you, well i just learned that zinc, can be very highly poisonous. I didn't know that because i always thought that because it was in vitamins it was ok, but i used some stuff for my teeth and had an allergic reaction, then noticed on the tube it had a warning and probably the reason that the hospital that i was in didn't catch it, well i quite using it and my symptoms and reactions went away about 2 days after i quite using it. There are so many chemicals in stuff these days you can't even trust the foods. I hope you feel better now, i guess it's better having your life than breathing that stuff and dieing over it. She can’t feel bad about doing her job. At the end of the day she was used just like all the other workers. With times being rough then too, most people would think twice before questioning authority. Especially in the middle of a government contract. Going back 35 years . I bought a trailer and the code then was formaldehyde used on all wood paneling.except larger than than 1/4inch for fire protection which I ordered on mine but still some of my paneling was fire treated with formaldehyde l knew at that time anyone who was to live in a trailer and ordered one new should not move in it four months so it could cure and dry out at the dealers lot with Windows left open and of course closed if it rained then reopened. So always buy a trailer that sets on a lot for 4 months . And if it comes from the factory straight to your lot and set up don't even go in for 4 months don't let your children run around in it. Stay away. The formaldehyde has not cured and every dealer should be held responsible for strongly informing the buyer of the super danger.

Tim Ogden there is always a powerful toxic type smell/fumes in production areas that's emitted from prepared materials used in manufacturing mobile homes, trailers etc... If I remember correctly Asbestos is used for insulation in FEMA trailers because they are considered temporary. Asbestos kills.
Formaldehyde is the odor! There are other odors from other chemicals in there also. It's not just that the odors come from that stuff it's just that the company put it in there on purpose that's the problem they're doing it on purpose. That's interesting because my town is the RV capital of the world. The The RV industry was down and a lot of people in need of jobs at the time of that disaster. Quite a few people got jobs doing those trailers and there was overtime involved because they needed mass production in a hurry. We have two big once vacant city owned lots full of FEMA trailers.

I had a temp job building these crappy FEMA trailers. We were told to put more formaldehyde in the materials than was needed. I don't know why any was needed. Some of the packing material had Chinese letters so I assume much of the construction materials was from Asia, not the US.

The plan to provide RV trailers for temporary housing after a natural disaster just doesn't work at the scale of the Katrina disaster. Money was needed in NEW ORLEANS, NOT in Indiana. Money should have gone to the site of the relief, building permanent expandable housing solutions with local labor, not to the RV manufacturers in the North.
All new construction products have off gassing that takes about a month or so to dissipate. They will make people sick. There are low VOC products that aren't a problem, but there is a price difference. FEMA had to make a decision to provide shelter quickly and keep the cost within the budget or not which could cost the directors their jobs. What would you do?
Perhaps that is why they decided to build FEMA camps, in an event of an emergency like Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. At least disaster victims have a place of refuge in these camps and not some FEMA trailers that FEMA workers have to rush to construct overnight.

She can’t feel bad about doing her job. At the end of the day she was used just like all the other workers. With times being rough then too, most people would think twice before questioning authority. Especially in the middle of a government contract. The problem is holding people accountable with these projects. Government spending, constructing, manufacturing and other things need have watchdogs.

SoulJah Roch, It seems people forget quickly now, or no time for updates. I kind of live for updates and yet if I were to ask anyone about an update I usually get silence. I am sad this happened to you, I'd fix it all if they'd let me at least try, I call it common sense and a bit of humanity for our people here. The "new car smell" is usually from phthalates in the plastics. Same kinda smell you get when you walk into Harbor Freight.

Going back 35 years . I bought a trailer and the code then was formaldehyde used on all wood paneling.except larger than than 1/4inch for fire protection which I ordered on mine but still some of my paneling was fire treated with formaldehyde l knew at that time anyone who was to live in a trailer and ordered one new should not move in it four months so it could cure and dry out at the dealers lot with Windows left open and of course closed if it rained then reopened. So always buy a trailer that sets on a lot for 4 months . And if it comes from the factory straight to your lot and set up don't even go in for 4 months don't let your children run around in it. Stay away. The formaldehyde has not cured and every dealer should be held responsible for strongly informing the buyer of the super danger.

Tim Ogden there is always a powerful toxic type smell/fumes in production areas that's emitted from prepared materials used in manufacturing mobile homes, trailers etc... If I remember correctly Asbestos is used for insulation in FEMA trailers because they are considered temporary. Asbestos kills.

Formaldehyde is the odor! There are other odors from other chemicals in there also. It's not just that the odors come from that stuff it's just that the company put it in there on purpose that's the problem they're doing it on purpose. Someone said to me why would they do that why would our government let these things happen my answer is because they can! It's part of the plan of depopulation and a lot of people don't believe it they think that it's all conspiracy theory I've heard it so many times RUclips is just conspiracy theory man the blind leading the blind!

It is true that there are a lot of chemicals in a lot of things that are used all over the world but not so concentrated as it is in those trailers for The fumes come from many things that are used in those trailers not only glues and such but the carpet padding and the paint in the we'll just everything just about so it doesn't dissipate quickly it takes probably 50 years or so it's really sad that people would work for them. And what do you think's going on in the FEMA camps it's going to be worse than those trailers in there when they start putting people in there too

That's interesting because my town is the RV capital of the world. The The RV industry was down and a lot of people in need of jobs at the time of that disaster. Quite a few people got jobs doing those trailers and there was overtime involved because they needed mass production in a hurry. We have two big once vacant city owned lots full of FEMA trailers.

I had a temp job building these crappy FEMA trailers. We were told to put more formaldehyde in the materials than was needed. I don't know why any was needed. Some of the packing material had Chinese letters so I assume much of the construction materials was from Asia, not the US.

The thing that gets me as a disabled worker is that these same Fascists with a corporate mentality will now abuse any injured worker that is left with permanent disability and unable to do their job. Remember the workers compensation system is a business. It regularly murders injured workers instead of paying them and providing medical care. How? By inflicting pain, poverty, and stress on them till they commit suicide. The pain is there from injuries but they will not treat it. Appeal, appeal.

The plan to provide RV trailers for temporary housing after a natural disaster just doesn't work at the scale of the Katrina disaster. Money was needed in NEW ORLEANS, NOT in Indiana. Money should have gone to the site of the relief, building permanent expandable housing solutions with local labor, not to the RV manufacturers in the North.
Putting profit before anything else (worker safety, production quality, consumer wellbeing, etc) is so typical of the US

All new construction products have off gassing that takes about a month or so to dissipate. They will make people sick. There are low VOC products that aren't a problem, but there is a price difference. FEMA had to make a decision to provide shelter quickly and keep the cost within the budget or not which could cost the directors their jobs. What would you do?
Perhaps that is why they decided to build FEMA camps, in an event of an emergency like Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. At least disaster victims have a place of refuge in these camps and not some FEMA trailers that FEMA workers have to rush to construct overnight.

I'm just somebody who spent 5 years on a 15 Billion dollar project and watched American workers have to bow down for crap just to keep their jobs. You don't have to feel like a slave...but why don't you ask the 15,000 workers on that job who stated publicly that the worst part of that job was to have their employment security threatened if they made any complaint whatsoever? And I didn't say YOU had to feel like anything..so what is your problem?
We owned a fine "Gulfstream motorhome. it was wonderful. Everything worked, nothing leaked. Things must have changed a lot.

Our last project was the MOTIVA CEP..which was a 15 Billion dollar project..and we have no concept how businesses work? If you knew how business works then you would understand that it costs more money to train new workers than it does to simply do the right thing by all ready existing workers with years of experience. A company has a right to expect a fair profit...but not to generate those profits at the expense of the workers to cover for mismanagement . Grow up.
