you're kidding me ...right? One of the best covers of Summertime that I have ever heard..thank all of you and glad there is room for the piano solos...lol...give us more!
This is my first time to comment on youtube, but want to say this..... Being born in Texas, and a self taught musician, I was fortunate enough to later play with some of the greats in country music. My favorite being Ray Price for around 16 years. Ray was very much a gentleman and recognized the beauty and class in many genres of the field. His band leader for 36 years, Moses "Blonde" Calderon, self taught also, loved to play Jazz, Country, Classical, etc. too. I respect Ray for that very much. Nashville gave him a hard time over it, and he will always be remembered for not always following the rules, and sang/recorded songs he loved and knew others could relate with. His music kept crossing over into other genres and hitting number 1on the charts. His biggest hit probably being "For the Good Times." He appreciated his fans, just as much as they appreciated him. I have the utmost respect for your singing and playing talents also Gunhild Carling, and the whole Carling + group. The songs you are singing/performing are classics and the style in which you do them are pure class. My only regret, is not hearing you before now. You, and your group, are great and I hope some day to meet and hear you perform in person. Thank You
Gary Jones my dad introduced me to Ray Price when I was a child. Dad and I were listening to him sing “Crazy Arms.” Since then, about 55 years ago, I have enjoyed listening to his wonderful voice. I have regretted never seeing him in concert. Good to know he was a classy man and appreciated different genres of music.
Gary Jones you are right on. I remember seeing glimpses of Gunhild a few years ago... I think Gunhild used to play 2 trumpets at the same time... but I can't remember. Though, I find this music wonderful and its not dead. It almost looked like the younger one is getting Baptized by fire as we used to say in the military. Maybe lost her place in the music but have we not all been there at one time or another? I can't wait to see how good her talent will be in the future. I grew up a trombone player. I learned to love the classics listening to everything my grandpa used to listen too... You cannot go wrong playing these tunes. I had stopped playing about 15 years ago, but this makes me want to play again. Love this
Pryor to this,I've never heard of Gunhild Carling before. But I have to say she's good,I like her alot.I originally was a fan of rock and roll, and still am,but around 16 years old I fell in love with Jazz and I never looked back.John M Guinto
Can't say enough good things about this band. Intense feeling and tasteful at the same time. Multi-instrumentalists who every instrument they play (or vocal) is done well. Splitting choruses with one another. Waiting until halfway through to bring in the understated vocal (and just the right amount at the end). The reed player is very unique, familiar with past styles but very original and soulful. Trumpet work is really top notch, great phrasing. Piano tasteful, clean and restraint but all there, all good. And it looks like you all are having fun!
I don't think I can say anything that hasn't already been said about this outstanding group of musicians. So then , I'll just reiterate my ❤ for them as a whole 😊
I didn´t know that carling family did a so wonderful version of summertime 6 years ago. It was a pity that they couldn´t play it again at Öland 11 Juli 2023 But thank you for this wonderful youtube music.
Feels right to hear this one, when I kept my eyes opened for 3 days but ended with the last breath of my four kittens which died in summertime but winter still come over the sky to take their sun ❤️🩹
I am amazed! You didnt have to sing one word to know that your heart belongs to the music. You all perform so well and are so talented, thankyou for carrying on such a great genre and style of music.
A great rendition to the original way of what Summertime would of sounded like in the 20s and 30s. Gunhild hauntingly sounds like Billy Holliday here. she really talented. sings, tap dances, plzays many instruments. what a talent
Just played this whilst making my morning aeropress. Absolutely the most perfect sounds to sip my morning pick me up to. Bravo, bravo. Astoundingly great performance by all *applause*
CARLING FAMILY.....THANK U FOR BEING YOURSELVES AND FILLING US WITH JOY WHEN LISTENING TO YALLS GREAT SOULFUL MUSIC, UR SOUND NEVER GETS OLD AND I CAN NEVER GET ENUFF
Hello Gunhild - lovely music and lovely dress!! We're now in the middle of our winter in Cape Town so I'm in bed keeping warm and enjoying your music. Thanks as always
How this doesn't have millions of likes is beyond me... Anyway, really valuable unique beautiful things are sometimes unknown to most. For now, I will be one of the few...
Gunhild Carling is the only one I know of who seems to play trumpet in the Louis Armstrong style with that extremely loud attack and bold sound. I don't know how else to describe it, nobody seems to play that way other than he and her.
The world needs more of your band. GO YOU.
...what the hell?!
I need to hear all area
There are good words following
About spreading wings
I love her when she's singing than when she's playing the instrument. Her unique voice is a time machine that will take you back in the 20's 30's.
Actually although she is super talented, I prefer her voice too.
@@dashalovesmusic Agree great singing voice for those kinds of songs.
I love this lady on trumpet. And she plays the trombone skillfully too. Great.
She kills it on the bagpipes too!
Jazz bagpipes, no less!
"Summertime" has been a favorite song for me, for about 60 years. This Jazz version is TOPS.
you're kidding me ...right? One of the best covers of Summertime that I have ever heard..thank all of you and glad there is room for the piano solos...lol...give us more!
Well all the Carling siblings are multi-instumentalists and super talented! Totally crazy!

high praise indeed. Ray was a Giant, and still one of the coolest guys in Country

@@thinkerly1 Linda could sing in any style, and it sounded great whatever style she chose to sing. It's too bad she can't sing anymore.
@@AIRFORCEZOOMIE, not just two trumpets. Gunhild sometimes even played three trumpets simultaneously!
Felt licked NYC, circa 1942, Awesome job . Thank you so very much for talent.

Love the way the clarinet speaks in this rendition.... so crystal clear and soulful
if a really good trombone player had been used with a trombone solo (like the great clarinet solo)
this song could have been taken to another level
That part got to me. Great stuff.
