I think one of the most inspiring things about Eminem is that he actually wants other artists to perform well. I agree wholeheartedly. I'm Not Racist should have won so many awards. It's been a couple of years and it still pops up in my playlist and I can't help but shed a tear or two. I made both of my daughters listen to the song several times. We cannot come together until we can see through each others' eyes.
Em is Hip-hop, just look at that backpack rapper go off. He rides for the OGs more than anyone does. Platinum meant more in Ems younger years, when you had to make people walk into a store to buy music. Now people make artists go platinum from their couch
He did the soundtrack for the boxing movie "Southpaw." "From the 8 Mile to the Southpaw." Southpaw was one of the last big things he did before this song I believe.
That platinum line was in reference to the fact some trash songs/albums/artists still getting to the level of platinum without actually showing any skill to be worthy of it

"The platinum certification was introduced in 1976 for the sale of one million units for albums and two million for singles, with the gold certification redefined to mean sales of 500,000 units for albums and one million for singles."
What he saying is going platinum isnt the only scale of success. Look at mumble rappers for exemple, very popular, several went platinum but by no means is that an indication of their skill as a whole and in the long run. Obviously it is a factor but in this day and age of the internet anything can go platinum no matter how random it is. Take eminem, he is consistently platinum, in his own words "you set the mark too high when platinum sales are looked at as failures" other then "infinite", which he released before blowing up, I don't believe he has ever released anything that has not gone platinum, he is the only rapper to go diamond TWICE both for "the eminem show" and "The Marshall mathers LP" (Tupac went diamond twice but one of the albums was a greatest hits album). So when joyner said "you might have went platinum but that dont mean nothing" he is referring to mumble rappers and the likes. Em himself said in one of my favourite verses ever in "till I collapse": - "A plaque and platinum status is whack if I'm not the baddest"
Eminem is the rap god he is the living legend. Eminem is the father to our local artist he inspired Kendrick Lamar J. Cole logic Joyner Lucas Hopsin brought us. 50 Cent. Dr. Dre. It’s a father figure to Eminem and Eminem is a father figure to all the local artist in the rap game.
Southpaw was a boxing movie with Jake Gyllenhall and 50 cent and Em was an exec.producer of the soundtrack. Songs like Kings never die and phenomenal were in the track list. You should check out the phenomenal music video, it's like a freaking movie dog. Fire 🔥
This is a cool idea 💡 👍 there are certain artists I would like to know more about but it can be overwhelming when they got like 4 or 5 albums. For whatever reason I was so late to listening to NF cause I didn’t get it and was so behind. Now I’m a huge fan because of reactions to the songs people suggest the most. (Just using NF as an example, I realize this is an Eminem track lol)
Craig Harrell yeah I see what you are sayin. I interpreted it as like: say I never really listened to JayZ except for a few songs everybody knows. I wouldn’t necessarily be motivated to go through his whole discography, but if I got a taste of particular songs chosen by real JayZ fans who know where the hidden gems are, like you said, off all his albums, I would totally check out an album if I was digging the song from it.
Going platinum doesnt mean anything anymore. I'll use Jay-Z for my example. When MCHG dropped, he had a deal in place w/ Samsung where the company pre-paid for a million copies to become exclusive for Galaxy owners. Instantly a platinum album. Rihanna did it was well (under Jay's management) w/ the album "Anti". I believe a similar scenario happened w/ 4:44 and Tidal. Drake has been accused several times of using "streaming farms" to boost his numbers as well. Therefore, going platinum doesn't mean anything anymore.
And yet, Em does this flawlessly. Because he does nothing. Literally nothing to promote his recent albums. Hell, even if he did promote his album, they're subliminal if anything. Take a look at Revival's promotion. But his reputation doesn't need anything at this point. But, like one comment said earlier, Em came from that generation of Hip hop where you had to buy physical copies and had to have actual talent, because if you bite someone's style, you were clowned on. That generation of music back then, Eminem declared his status as untouchable because you can't do that kind of run in the game anymore due to streaming platforms but not only that, if any of these biters were to perform back in the day when physical sales counted, almost all of them will fall undoubtedly.
I would refer you to an Immortal Technique line where he says, "If you go platinum it's got nothing to do with luck. It just means that a million people are stupid as fuck."
I agree sometimes with the platinum point. Sells obviously indicate success, but a lot of people know how to play the game and get all the sales from people who don't actually care about the quality. It still takes work but it really sucks for guys like joyner who are obviously way better at rap, but don't want to sell out as much
This is what I think about what ,Jamal said, first time someone comes to your house they are a guest, now it's the person has been in your house for 25 years contributing to bills making sure everything's good in the house, helping you in this imaginary house Jamal seems to have, and they're actually have made the house bigger, let's face it ,"yes"! because Eminem is white he made a broader Horizon of viewers come and look at your house, that person is no longer a guest they live there. Joyner said "you might have went Platinum. But that don't mean nothin. I'm actually buzzin this time!". Since this song was a partial knock at mumble rap and the state of the rap industry at the time it came out...he was saying that them going Platinum doesn't mean anything now that his name is finally gaining traction. Platinum meaning a platinum record/album.. it means at least 50k units sold. Doesn't matter if it's physical or digital copies of the album
"The platinum certification was introduced in 1976 for the sale of one million units for albums and two million for singles, with the gold certification redefined to mean sales of 500,000 units for albums and one million for singles."
Bob Montford “GUCCI GANG GUCCI GANG GUCCI GANG GUCCI GANG GUCCI GANG GUCCI GANG GUCCI GANG”
50k?! Pretty sure platinum is more than that.
Platinum is 1 million units sold
100000 units...

Just something about watching a reaction video knowing the person has already heard the song that just takes the fun out of it.
