Definitely a good idea to have a water bottle pocket on one side, but potentially slim the opposite one down to hold small quick access items. I would use your bag for my laptop, cameras, ipad and other electronics when going away. I currently use a hiking bag and it's not ideal. I definitely would make good use of all the pockets.
I was going to say the same thing about the side pockets. One of each! I love bags with a spot for a water bottle. I also agree with Jazza about the small internal pocket NOT being up against a person but further in.
Oh, the little zipper compartment under the flap: little elastics would not hinder using it for earbuds or other little things, but it gives another option if someone doesn't have that need. I love how versatile and customizable you are making this! including a backpack option! Both bags would be awesome to have. Personally I get annoyed when bags say they fit a device but they mean that it just fits that device without even a basic case on it, so a little extra room in the height (even a little more than the inch you mentioned adding) would be super. I'm really excited about these and know that I would get great use out of both of them! I'm currently needing to replace the backpack I've been using as a purse/diaper bag because it is falling apart... and the big one hits ALL of what I'm looking for (if it has the water bottle pocket included)... maybe I'll make do with another bag I have laying around until I get the not-Jazza bag! :D
IDEA: Make the side pockets expandable. Imagine cutting them vertically on one end, attach a triangular thin fabric that folds inward with the pointed end downward, and use a magnetic snap on the top edge. This way, when you don't use the pockets, the fabric lays pleaded flat. Then, you can unfold them to hold bigger things like spray cans and water bottles. Hope this help.
Or just make it elastic/stretchy, with a top string adjustment so it can accommodate several different water bottle sizes/shapes. I always carry a 32oz stainless steel one, and it's such a bonus when a bag has a pocket big enough for it.
@@qwiggles4154 The nordace, according to RUclips VDOs, has elastic ban on the top right and the triangular shape fabric looks smaller than I envisioned. Glad to know that this type of pockets is doable. ^_^
Those two outer pockets are for a water bottle and an umbrella. They should definitely hold a reusable bottle and a standard size Totes umbrella. THANK YOU for backpack mode! Definitely agree with tighter strap so it fits in the most ergonomic way. Perfect for commuting on the bus or by bike that way and great for those of us who would struggle with the satchel mode given the size. It also means it can be used by wheelchair users too. WE STAN ACCESSIBILITY AND INCLUSIVITY! As for the little pocket next to the marker pocket... maybe you could add 1 loop for a pen? That's like the "wallet" pocket. It's nice to have a pen handy for signing things when necessary, especially when you don't want to share a pen with strangers. For the smaller bag, I would definitely make it an inch or so taller. The smaller bag side pockets should ALSO hold a water bottle. Maybe just one pocket... but it definitely should hold a full size water bottle. It's important to stay hydrated and many public places still don't have water fountains for public use BUT they do have bottle fillers available. I do think the bags should look like siblings. I'd also like to see an option though where you could easily add flare to the flaps. I know with people going to conventions... supporting local businesses/clubs, and wanting to show off their loyalties to different brands/causes... everyone has some flare. *** PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE*** Make sure the zipper pulls are large enough and the holes at the end of the taps are large enough to add keychains. 1. They make a great identifier if you and friends have the same bag and a fun way to add personality, but more importantly 2. it's an accessibility accommodation for those with arthritis/limited movement/fine motor skill struggles. This bag appeals to way more than just graphic artists. I add keychains to zippers on almost everything I own and when the holes aren't big enough, I have to just loops some yarn through and braid it which isn't as fun. When I'm having a really bad arthritic flare, I still want to access my stuff... Really, this bag appeals to more than graphic artists. I'm a fiber artist and this is super appealing to me for traveling to classes/demonstrations. The marker organizer is perfect for my crochet hooks and double-pointed needles, the inside pocket is large enough for my needle folio, notebook, meds pouch, and wallet and the outside pocket closest to the body is perfect for my ipad. I'm not sure, I'd have to experiment... but it might also fit my nano e-spinner. The smaller bag is something I'd actually use as a purse, especially if it'll hold a water bottle on the outside! It'll fit my ipad, wallet, phone, meds pouch, and a small project for on the go.
Those bigger zipper pulls could be used for travel locks as well. Great ideas! Oh, and do we know how well the canvas holds up to pet fur? Some of the ballistic nylon traps fur like nobody’s business. It’s super time consuming to remove, because a lint roller just won’t pick it up.
@@bakibadguy Accessibility for the win! That saying is probably Waaay out of date, but once one's into one's 5th decade, time just really flies by. even though I don't have specific accessibility needs, it's always *great* to take those into consideration. (And they often make life easier for the rest of us, too...)
Bag Altercation: for the bottles pocket, i’d add some elastic where it makes contact with the bag so when youre not using it, its slim and when you are, its tight yet spacious
I agree, elastic or a shock cord like someone else suggested would help hold your drinks in and stop small things like keys or change from sliding out easily
I also like that kind of pockets and in addition to that it would be nice to have som kind of slim clip or hook in an elastic strip that is sewn on the inside of the pocket for holding like a keychain or whatever you can hook on to it. I really like additions like that in my bags. If the stip is attached just inside the upper end of the pocket its super easy to grab and you wont have to dig in the pocket to get to whatever is connected to it.
Loving how they look so far!! Here’s my feedback as a student at a fine arts school- I’ll make sure to also shoot this to you in an email w additional info n pictures :) For clarity, I’m primarily a digital illustrator with a pretty hefty commute for my studio classes this coming semester. I’ll try to include some considerations from my friends who work in other media as well, but the main focus here is student life. First- big bag! I’d like to see a pair of dividers for a (chunky!!) laptop n tablet each. They should have a false, padded bottom so that the bottoms of those dividers aren’t the bottom of the bag to avoid damage when setting the bag down. Also, a water bottle holder is a MUST, so def expand at least one of the side pockets or make it stretchy fabric, but to avoid the theft problem you can add a little loop at the side or top of that pocket for a clip to clip the bottle to the bag. On that note, ZIPPER LOCKS AND/OR SNAPS! Sometimes old or overstressed zippers just won’t stay closed. A snap closure will at least keep it closed, locks would keep sticky fingers deterred. For the art pockets themselves, make sure there’s room for brushes and such in the marker pouch- nobody wants the tips of their brushes ruined. Also, if you have any larger, preset gouache or watercolor palettes I’d be interested in seeing if those fit in the main compartment for my painter friends. Ergonomically, I like the backpack mode the most- and I’d say a chest strap is absolutely warranted for the sheer weight that could be in this thing. Pad the crossbody strap for that too. Also, the carry handle should def be something thick but comfortable to grip- a sturdy material like the bag straps w padding is a good idea. Again: weight + long commute. For the smaller bag- yes please make the larger iPad Pro fit! And maybe add a little more space for something like a Bluetooth keyboard. I see a lot of folks using iPad + keyboard in class. Yes to matching the materials, again, zipper locks n snaps, extra padding n sturdy straps. I’m seeing this more as a bag for a non-studio day or something you can run around town with, so maybe a spot for phone/keys/wallet (on both!) would be smart. General/cosmetic for both of these- little exterior loops on the sides for keychains and quick access to clipped-on items is an easy add for some extremely helpful functionality in addition to looking cute! I also personally ALWAYS carry a reusable shopping bag on me, so maybe an additional stow bag that folds up or packs away when not in use would be a nice addition. Anyway. Hoping this essay isn’t too long, gonna go chuck it in an email for ya now. Can’t wait to see what’s in store!
I love all these suggestions! I have a long commute on mass-transit as well. I’m always struggling with a place for my lunch and workout wear (keep the nice shoes at the office, wear the sneakers or winter boots on the bus/train).
Yeah- it’s going to be 40min by train and bus for me, plus walking around w my stuff between classes on a suuuper hilly campus. I know a lot of my classmates are in the same situation, w no car and no good place to keep a bike or something similar. Add some giant canvasses to that and it’s an awkward train ride to say the least haha
Your answer about a reusable shopping bag made me think that a specific place for your keys so you alway know where they are and don't have to dig around for them would be a great add on too
in keepign with this, there should be a 2nd set of backpack mode straps with super heavy duty clips, that way the weight wont breka them like they would with cheaper clips ESPECIALLY if theres sudden movement, BIg clip breaker. 1000% agree with you on this out of studio bag
Right now I’m still kind of wondering what differs this from any other bag on the market (except for the marker holder which is really cool) I’d love to see more optional stuff specifically for artists (since you’ll call it the “ultimate artist” bag), I’d love to see a brush holder and just more optional “artist” stuff (of course the more extra’s you add the more expensive the bag becomes) so it’d be totally adjustable to any artists needs and truly live up to it’s name. I’d also like to see some (removable) divider in the middle pocket so you can separate your iPad/laptop and other stuff you might put there. I think it would also be cool if the small back can somehow attach to the bigger bag, to create an even bigger one, but idk if that’s even possible. It’s already looking like a dream but if this was possible I’d definitely buy!
The pockets that currently include the removable marker storage could be utilized for other types of inserts. Same size base of insert, but different configurations of elastics or pockets for other stuff. For example, someone who wants to bring paint brushes could buy the “paint” insert set that has small elastic loops set horizontally instead of vertical to hold long brushes. And maybe the paint set also includes a zipped waterproof pouch for wet brushes. Personally, I would sell the bag without any inserts. Then, I would sell different insert collections that serve different purposes.
What if the "marker holder" was the optional part and you could chose which one you got. So there was a maker one, a pencil one, a brush one? You could either chose which one you wanted at checkout or you could get all of them and interchange them when you want? When you say you want more optional stuff, I feel you need to give at least some vague details on what those are. This is the reason he is asking us about this, this bag has everything Jazza needs in his day to day life, but he is trying to work out what others like him needs as well so he can cater to the wide audience.
I’d recommend Jazza looking at the Etchr Art Satchel or other art bags on the market for inspiration. Opt for something even more versatile than the Etchr bag, than you’ll have my interest! Tbh imo in the case of an art bag more IS more (I want to be able to take as much with me as possible, even if one time it’s my watercolours and coloured pencils and the next it’s acrylics, I want it to fit all purposes)
“1 bag can’t cater for all artists”…..Jazza: “We’ll see about that.” Honestly videos like this would sell a product to me way faster than an official commercial. Seeing Jazza take into account all the different devices and sizes, with functionality and comfort in mind, is just so nice. Great work guys, can’t wait to see the finish products.
I’m sure a lot of this has already been mentioned by others, but I’m just gonna go for it. Let the novel begin. Ok so first the larger bag. Larger bag: I absolutely LOVE the designs and options for the straps, especially backpack mode :P. I agree with you on shrinking the size of the backpack straps for a tighter fit, I feel like having the bag closer to your body will just feel more secure. I also agree with you on changing the material for the padding on the handle. When you were referring to the small front pocket next to the one for holding markers, I personally like the idea of keeping it more practical and leaving it as is rather than adding elastic loops. Maybe one, as someone else has mentioned, but no more than that. In my opinion it seems a bit unnecessary since the dimensions of the pocket seem like they’d fit pens and pencils well so they wouldn’t really move around that much anyway. As for the middle pocket when you were talking about having a computer in it, I agree on having padding on the bottom for it. I also agree with what you said about moving the miscellaneous pocket from the back pocket into that middle one instead. Lastly, the side pockets. What about giving one of them a zip closure? The other could be used for an umbrella or water bottle, while the zip one on the other side could be things you might want a bit more secure. Smaller Bag: I agree with you on the canvas material over the other one. It gives it a more durable and reliable feel and I honestly like that it gives it a bit of a rugged look in a way. In terms of matching the hood flap materials of both bags, I personally like the all canvas material but at the same time the leather cover makes it less plain, and more unique to your design in my opinion. I agree with you on increasing the dimensions a bit to fit the iPad Pro and markers/marker case. Similarly to the larger bag’s side pockets, what about adding a zipper closure to one of them and keeping their dimensions? Or having them a bit shallower, and one or both with little flaps and magnetic snaps instead of zippers for quicker/easier access? The tiny flaps could match the cover material. Just food for thought :P. Another random idea could be to add a small pocket onto the front one that includes the marker case. Something that protrudes so that it doesn’t compromise the space in that marker pocket, maybe for a pencil sharpener and erasers or something like that? Though the side pockets could be used for that so this is just a thought. Overall, I agree with what you went over in the video :D and I’m really excited and looking forward to the finished products. I really like both bags and would probably impulse buy both of them lol let’s be honest
If I was looking at this bag, I would want to see the laptop compartment include a divider of some sort so I could also transport my Wacom drawing tablet without it coming in contact with my laptop.
It would be great if it was removable. Because as someone not looking to transport a laptop but rather a needle folio or a binder of magic cards... the lack of a divider is absolutely brilliant. Maybe a padded insert that just slides in between anything you want to separate?
Yeah a padded divider would help with a tablet and laptop transporting, then be able to take it out for slightly more room for books that don't need to be separated by the divider. Great suggestion. 😁
Loving all of this! Some suggestions for the bags if your interested though are below: Big bag: 1. Larger side pocket to fit a water bottle. 2. Waterproof if it isn't already 3. A fully canvas option if possible, I personally love the look of the canvas 4. A more comfortable handle so even when full it is nice to carry by the handle 5. Not a suggestion but I LOVE the backpack option Small Bag: 1. I agree the canvas is the winner for sure 2. The small pocket at the back is great for quick access but a magnet holding it shut would be even better (like you see in some handbags) as that way small pieces of paper won't fall out if the back gets knocked over) 3. Waterproof if not already Overall, I think they are both really fantastic but I would only be able to afford one so I'd probably go the larger one
Back when I was riding the train to and from work this would have been awesome! I would carry coloring books, color pencils, laptop, and a small "purse" for went to places outside the office. Having the backpack option for walking then a handle for when on metro is very convenient. Being able to quickly put away the art supplies is awesome! I used to have to plan 10 min before my train stop to pack everything up. My biggest suggestion is that the pockets on the side hold at least a 32 oz. Water bottle, and maybe have a little insulation to help keep drinks cool or warm. I always hated having to reduce my water bottle size because of my bag.
I also love you care for organization. Seeing the organization that you have done in studio has inspired me to re organize my office/craft room. I would love to see even more organizing products from you.
Love the smaller bag! Watercolours and brushes in the front pocket, book in the middle, toss my keys and phone in the back… only addition I can think of is an elastic pocket on the side for a small water bottle.
The leather on the handle is the only thing that worries me. I feel like it'd be the first thing to wear through over time. At least there's a strap you can use for general use if it's heavy, but the problem I usually have with those is what to do with them when you're not using it. Edit: Ah, even Jazza commented on that. Nice.
I love these bags and your ideas. I’ve been looking for an affordable travel art bag for a long time. I’m a watercolor and acrylic artist and just now dabbling in markers. Some things to think about is an option of paint brush, pallet, collapsing water cup, and paint storage options. I can see these working as interchangeable options. A possible way to do this is to make all of the pouches backed in Velcro on a Velcro faced bag ( kinda like a military tactical bag). And I love the many options for the straps!!
- The backpack mode looks amazing! I didn't think I would be as stoked about that as I am. To those who suggested backpack mode, thank you. - I would prefer to have a slightly bulkier side pocket to hold a water bottle - That small pen/marker/headphone pouch is 10000% going to be where I stick at least one set of dice. - I also immediately gravitate to the canvas for the smaller bag. The sound the other material makes when brushed against would get very annoying very quickly. - I also agree on the shorter side pockets on the small bag. I know I would end up shoving straw wrappers, receipts, etc. in there and would like to be able to retrieve them easily to throw them away. - I see myself using the larger bag more regularly than the small one - that said I didn't expect to be as interested in the small bag as I am. I'm not generally a small bag person but this one looks handy.
I think the questions of "what makes this different from other bags on the market" is a useful one. Different types of inserts for different types of art supplies could be one thing. Removable cleanable linings, or smaller sub-bags, for when you pen/paint breaks and you have stuff all on the inside could be helpful.
Those bags are looking sharp. A slight suggestion, having the option for both straight canvas look, or black/canvas combination, I personally prefer the look of all canvas. As far as the side pockets on the big bag go, you could do a shock cord with lock type deal, so people can do water bottles, or small bits and bobs without worry of loose gear. Also love the mini bag, soon as I saw it all I could think was how perfect it was for a DM bag
One thing that i would love to see change, is color of the inner material. To something extremely vibrant or just not the same color, as a lot of the stuff that will end up getting put in to the bag. So that it is easy to locate, especially in the big compartment. Maybe something like a Safety Orange or Vivid Orange
What if the double sided pack of markers 2:31 was 2 single sided packs that were magnetized together, that way you could pull them apart, and have all the markers in one row. (Or one long strip that folds in half, but 2 separate half's adds more flexibility.)
Maybe if the side pockets for the water bottle/misc things had an elastic rim so that it sorta cinches back snugly to make it harder to grab the "pinchable" items as you put it ^^ I agree moving the divider to the big middle pocket is more idea so that you can put a drawing tablet along with your laptop or maybe a more snug fit for an iPad with that bit of cushion. Other thing I think would be cool is make it a nice black outside but use colored material for the inside, at least for the cable pockets so they don't blend together if you have several in there. I love the design so far, especially backpack mode! I would definitely use your bag to carry my laptop and Huion tablet, with a sketchbook and a little camera to capture inspiration. Also - I love both so the idea we could get a bundle with both bags sounds lovely!
Q: How Rain-Protected (No idea if thats the right term) are the bags? If I have my Art Supplies and such in it its big concern for me and others probably too. As for the side pockets... I mean if its a bag I use for going out/convention would prefer to have pocket for drink on it, for sure more save in case it leaks and i would have it inside the bag with the rest of my stuff no?
Good point - zippers leak in heavy rain, unless they’re leak proof or covered. Not as much of an issue if you drive everywhere, but when I’m in the office it’s a quarter mile walk to the customer site and I’ve had notebooks completely soak through in that time. And pre-COVID I commuted by bus, so even more rain exposure waiting at stops. I ended up keeping everything in big ziplock-type bags inside a larger bag, which was effective but doesn’t look especially professional.
you're looking for the word "water proof" and i agree... a water proof material OR something that we as customers could easily water proof would be nice!
As an artist who used to take art materials with me on the go -- I could see a use for both the large and small artbag. I would do watercolor/acrylic painting outdoors, and would need room for paper towels, water bottle, rinse water cup (I would use a small plastic teacup I saved from an airplane ride to Ireland) paintbrushes, pencils, knife for sharpening my drawing pencil, case of watercolors, select acrylics, art paper/artbook for painting in (at this time I was making hand-made books) glue, scissors, small bag for waste-stuff to carry away etc. I also had a spot to hang my keys and pocket in my bag for my bus pass/wallet at the ready. For my journeys I used a well-constucted backpack bag made of beautiful materal (black with a suede texture for the front flap) -- which was marketed as a laptop case, but I turned its function into my artbag. This was long before I created digital artworks, and mostly focused on mixed media pieces. At one time I was working on a large watercolor piece, and rolled my high-grade watercolor paper up into a roll, and fit it inside my artbag, but with the front flap losely open so not to crush the paper. Once I was stuck in the city during the winter, and severe weather conditions meant I needed to take a train back to my town. I worked on my watercolor at the train station to pass the time until my train was ready to leave -- I was indoors, and rolled my paper out on a low coffee-table type surface, large enough to spread my artpaper out on. Later, I exhibited this work at a non-commercial contemporary gallery, lovingly professionally framed and matted under glass. But this would have not been able to have been accomplished without a useful artbag. Good luck with your endeavours, Jazza. I think you have a great idea here, to market a successfully branded artbag. With so many digital artists working on their art tablets on-the-go and others using their tablets as a place to showcase their art portfolio (as I do) -- having the foresight to cover materials both traditional (markers/watercolors) and IT-dependant for the digital work at hand -- this could be an Artbag of the Future, for all of us artists today.
I need both bags, canvas material please for the smaller bag(because I feel happier to customise that vs a pleather material). I’m not a marker artist, but as long as those compartments can fit a standard watercolour palette (12 or 24 pan), I would be thrilled.
I have a soft spot for bags, so this was exciting to watch. My main thoughts were: I like the canvas material on the smaller bag more than the smoother one, and the backpack mode on the larger bag was fantastic. Nice work! Can't wait to see how it turns out!
Maybe an elastic band to line the tops of the side drink bottle pockets? To cater for different sized bottles or items? Both bags are great. I like that the larger bag can cater for a laptop, yet the smaller one could house a tablet. These are great even outside the art world.
Agree on the band if it's possible for this build, I've got a messenger bag that went this route and holds well while in use but also trims down the profile while the slot is empty.
Really excited to see how this project is moving along! I've been following it since the beginning and enjoy every update! A few things though. First, I've seen another comment about this, but I agree whole-heartedly: this isn't radically different from any other bag on the market these days. It seems to only be catering to those who are strictly traditionally pen/pencil/marker or digital artists. There doesn't seem to be much variance for those who aren't going to be using those mediums. While again, this isn't a bad thing per se, it does lead to the bag not upholding its name of being the ultimate artist's bag. Which of course, I understand is incredibly difficult since there is a wide expanse of mediums out there, so maybe there should be a focus on this bag for the traditionalists/digitalists with promises of another bag for more uniquely adapted mediums that get a bit messier, such as painters or charcoalists? Secondly, I love the two tone flap! It gives it the sleeker more professional look, but can we please get a "customization check"? I know a big theme in the original brainstorming was that the canvases used to create the bag would be able to keep customization well. I'd love to see an update about how well the fabrics hold different customizations over time. In the same vein, can we please check the electronic survivablity of the bag getting wet? Thirdly, another check I must request. I know one of the issues I run into a lot of times with bags that I have is that I'll stuff all the pockets full and it'll eat into the main spaces of the bag. Can we please get a full bag check and see how that may change the actual volume space we're working with in the main pocket? There're are few things worse than filling a bag's external pockets and realizing that the five inches of space you had inside is really only like three... Fourthly, as for the side pockets I suggest finding a way to keep the waterbottle/travel mug pocket on at least one side and compromsie with the other side being shorter for the odd bits and ends. Fifthly, I'm really loving this bag despite all that I've said, and I'm excited to see it progress with all the creative minds working on it! Q: With Scrap being such an important part of gatecrash games, will he be making it into the offical company logo?
An idea about #1: different inserts for different mediums? I don't think it will cover all, but it may help. As for painters, don't they have a portable canvas support with compartments? Or already portable kit?
oh I love this! Things I´d add/change: option of changing the marker holder to a pencil holder/pencil pouch, in general maybe if possible considering other mediums (watercolors for example, there a small inside pouch for lil travel pans etc would be good to protect it, maybe even a waterprrof pouch for wet palettes, a space where brushes can be put somewhat safely etc) in general I personally like at least one small closeable pouch for things like keys, bus tickets etc. things of value, as others said a divider where the laptop goes, so if you carry laptop+drawing tablet+ scetchbook or whatever its safe, either keep the side pocket for drinks or put sth akin on the inside (but than there´d be the risk of sth spilling) and if the bottom should have padding none of these insert paddings that are just put down in there (they move around, sometimes deform, fold and just attract gunk/trap dirt under them), also the handle seems nice on an empty bag, but not only the moving leather part (which will probably wear off quick and fall off) isn´t the greatest i can imagine the thickness of the handle or lack thereof would become literally painfull if the bag is heavy packed, if it´s also meant as a travel bag for the whole day.. a space for a lunch box etc should be considered, same with a space for maybe sth like a deodarant, small hairbrush things like that, because if I´d had to carry a second back for those things i´d take a completely different bag overall, I´d also consider that some people might prefer the bigger overhead headphones to smaller in ear ones which would be harder to fit, also weatherproofing them would be a very good idea (no idea if they are) and definitely have included how best to clean them and which things to absolutely not use for cleaning... I mean many art supplies can spill, so this would be important to include (also sorry for this whole block of a text with 0 structure, my excuse is that i´m writing this with no available coffee and a migraine)
😱😱 that bag is amazing!!! I’ve been needing an art bag and that looks perfect! A couple suggestions: make one of the side water bottle pockets a stretchy mesh (or something more stretchy) so you can put any size water bottle in it. I like the idea of separating the main pocket, that way you can put a laptop and a drawing tablet in there without them rubbing against each other. I would like a pocket for pencils and brushes and erasers, thing like that. The cord pocket maybe could be a bit bigger to allow for more cords for other electronics if needed. I really like both bags!!! I liked the version of the smaller bag that you liked better as well, and I agree they should look similar. I also agree that the pockets should be shorter. It can be a pain to try to fish things out of long pockets especially if they are very tight pockets. All in all I am in LOVE with the bags so far and can’t wait until they’re finished!!
oh boy I’m so excited for these bags!!! I would like the big back to have one side pocket for like drink bottles, i wouldn’t want them to maybe spill inside the bag and ruin something. I also really enjoy the bag back mode! The smaller bag looks great as well, it feels “ready to go” and just having some essentials with me at all times, so i really like that. I’m so hyped!!!
I love the big bag (I'd like one in blue)! I pleaded for a backpack mode and it looks really good. I do agree with moving the miscellaneous pocket from the outside pocket to the big one, having the option to divide/order the big pocket a bit more seems like a good idea to me. It also seems to sit super flat against the side, which is awesome; in my current backpack they are all kind of saggy and my books and papers get caught on them all the time which is very annoying. For the side/water bottle pockets I'd not make them too shallow. There are many people traveling with a thermos or 500mL bottles that are easily 20cm long (a big bag should fit a big water bottle is all I'm saying). And you want those to fit in the pocket for at least 12-ish centimeters and you can probably not fit them completely to the bottom so you need some extra height, yada yada. I think making those side pockets (partly) out of elastic would be a good idea too (I saw someone mention that) and I thought maybe adding a snap button at the inside of the top of the side pockets could allow you to turn those side pockets into more secure tiny-stuff-pockets. The handle as it is now seems impractical to me, since it's just a cover around the handle it looks like the bag would move/shift a lot when walking with it. It also looks quite small, both in width and thickness? It just doesn't fit the look of the rest of the bag very well. I think it would be better if there was an actual handle like on a briefcase maybe. The smaller bag is not for me ( the amount of stuff I bring with me normally would be enough to fill up a tiny bag, let alone if I also brought art stuff), but it would be cool if the materials and colours and such the bags are made of would be similar so you can tell they're part of the same line. Also something else: is the big bag waterproof? I'd assume it's not, so it would be a big plus for me if it was possible to get the bag with a properly fitted bag rain cover. Maybe as an optional thing because who would bike through the rain like that...except for me, haha. It would be more stylish than a garbage bag, so that's something to consider, hopefully. I am very bad at coming up with brand names and stuff, but I liked the idea of calling these bags "(Jazza's) Atlas Art Bags". Because in (a misconception of the) mythology Atlas would carry the world and these bags carry our art stuff with which we create worlds, thus the bags are carrying many creative worlds within them.
I'll take the canvas bag to the supermarket😉 lovin the backpack mode that the big bag has. For an idea maybe have one of the pockets be waterproof, I'm thinking of people with wet palettes or even for paints and inks. Can't wait to see the next prototype. The side pockets are for bottles but could be bigger and have elastic to keep them closed.
Oh amazing I love how they are turning out so far! We defiantly need at least one water bottle holder, hydration is very important, especially at conventions, but also just in general. It might be nice to have an easily wipeable fabric for the smaller pockets on the large bag, like waterproof and easily wipeable, sorta like some pockets on a diaper bag. Whether it be markers or paints if anything happens the bag doesn't get ruined. The large bag myself I'd use like a laptop bag, if I need to take art supplies with me, or a day trip somewhere, only because I don't like carrying large bags with me. The small bag would probably replace my purse if I'm honest, it looks awesome and is just the right size!
Yep waterproofing or a detachable raincoat for the bags would be awesome. I had suede boots in northern Ontario they had to be winterized and scotch guarded so as not to get wrecked by snow, rain and sand. Still have my boots and I got those ones over 15 years ago. Get a slipknot type tie for the top of the water bottle compartments, that will make it more versatile to carry whatever you want be it water or a load of pens etc. So glad you went with the zippers!!
I’m sure mass-transit travellers would appreciate some feet on the bottom, to keep life off their bag. Ugh with salt stains already 🙄 Every bag I have has met that struggle 😂
Love them so far Jazza, I definitely agree with a lot of the suggestions in the top comments! As an illustration student, I would prefer to see a few smaller pockets in the main compartment (for both the big and small bag) for smaller sketchbooks or brushes for easy access + some more padding in the bags to ensure that iPads and laptops stay safe in case if the bag gets dropped on the floor as we put it down (if sold for a higher price). I like to decorate my bags with pins - so for me the canvas is a win too but having the bag affordable is the #1 win. One last thing, having some brighter coloured options or even a larger variety of earthy tones (like greens and wine reds) would be amazing and would definitely for me make me even more likely to get one in the future :)
The backpack is a great idea! I've always wanted one of these! Adding a little more security in the PC pocket would be cool (as you mentioned). Enlarging the two outside pockets a bit more to put your bottle and mini umbrella is also a good idea! The only thing that worries me a bit is the straps for the backpack mode: Are they strong enough to support a very heavy bag? Because I have the exact same model on a computer bag and they broke because of the weight of my laptop so it would be a bit annoying if that happened (or else make sure that if the bag falls, what's inside doesn't get damaged). Anyway it's a really great bag and I can't wait to see the rest!😊
I would hope that they're rated. I have a similar set up on an LL Bean rolling backpack and those straps easily hold 50+lbs and have, on multiple occasions. On the flip side, a leather satchel I had that cost as much as my canvas backpack broke in days because the hooks were crap... but it was made by a leather goods retailer, not a luggage retailer.
as someone who didnt have a car for the majority of her life, i love bags that can be changed and this big bag looks so promising! from msngr to backpack and has the flapless back and bottom pocket, i love it! the smaller one is super cute too for the days you just have quick errands to run. Since a lot of female clothing dont have pockets, these look great!
Loving both of the bags, and will be getting them once they are avaliable for purchase. As a sutdent and a pilot, being able to have a large but slim bag with carring options is amazing and a smaller bag of the same quality makes it easy to have a bag that does not take up as much space. Cannot wait to see the small tweaks that you make to the two bags!
For those of us who aren't marker artists, it would be great to have the option for a removable zipper pouch or some other addition instead of the marker insert. That way if you have (for instance) a watercolor palette, travel brushes, and various other small items (the small items haunt me in large bags), it would be easy to store them in that section and pull them out onto the table when you need them. Since it's kind of non-standard size, having a zipper pouch option would remove the issue of trying to find your own pouch to fit the space.
This would make a great kickstarter, I would totally back this project! As far as the design, pretty much just seconding Jazza send many here. Big side pocket that fits a water bottle. Maybe the other side pocket can have a flap for headphones and other bits and bobs. Front pocket elastic for pencils. Divider in the largest compartment for drawing tablets that you might use with a laptop, but don't want rubbing against each other. The little bag looks perfect beside the mentioned height adjustment. I also wouldn't hate a Jazza logo on the front ;) maybe removable for people who like the clean look. But personally, I would want to show off where I got it!
The ability to fit a 1L Nalgene or a 32/40oz Hydro Flask is the first consideration when looking at a bag. I carry one of the other daily to work, commute, hike, or whatever. I would suggest either the bottle pocket be a little larger to accommodate this, or attach that panel with elastic on either side to allow it to expand and hold bottles of varying sizes. I really like the smaller bag and the canvas aesthetic. It reminds me of a canvas bag that I used for year after waxing it. If it were the size to fit a 12.9” iPad or a 14” MacBook Pro, it would be a good size for up to a 9”x12” sketchbook or a little taller and it could even fit the Huion Kamvas 13. This is almost an ideal size spot for many users, small enough to casual carry but big enough to carry the basics. These bags both have great potential as art bags, and in my opinion the best bags can swap between every function. Whether it’s taking a sketchbook and supplies to the coffee shop, laptop/documents to the office, or slip a Nintendo Switch/Kindle/book to take on a plane as a carryon.
Perhaps one or both of the side pouches could have a “lid” cover so that what’s put in them is not automatically grabbable. As for the smaller bag, the one I’m most interested in. I feel that a canvas material would feel more everyday and useable for craft. And as you mentioned, being able to fit the markers and iPads in the pouches would be a big preference. As I do scrapbook journalling having a bag that has just enough space for just under 3cms thick notebook would be a preference. That is something I have struggled to find as most bags I like are either too small for my notebooks, or way to big for the stuff I want to carry.
The side pockets for me would be water and an umbrella. My favorite bag had one zippered expandable pocket and one open but elasticized pocket. Keeps it less floppy, but still easy to shove a water bottle in. The small bag with a water bottle pocket (and an inch taller everywhere) would be *chef’s kiss*.
awesome! for the lateral pockets could be really interesting if one of them were shorter but the other, the water bottle one, may be made from an elastic material capable of streching to acomodate different sizes and srink when empty
I would love to see the design of the big one in the smaller size but with backpack mode and definitely elastic on the side pockets as well as slightly expanding them to fit water bottles while keeping it more streamlined when not in use. Over all I'm really excited to see the final product! 😀
Alot of good suggestions in the comments, i think it would be cool to include some sort of customizable bits of materiale that people can draw on with markers or paint :)
I’m really excited about this project! I’m looking forward to the smaller bag. I hope it can hold something that’s B5 size and still zip closed, because I have a mini backpack but B5 sketchbooks or pencil boards are too tall for it.
One request for the laptop part: an extra piece of protection to also put your drawings tablet in there without it having to touch the laptop. That feels much saver. Will it also be big enough to fit bigger laptops? Mine is near 18 inch
I would love to see a stress test of the materials used in and outside the bag. Especially the front. But damn the contrast in materials and stuff looks absolutely gorgeous! I totally need to save up for this one
Soo cool seeing things that others and I have suggested in this new iteration! I think I'm officially in love with this one though. Here's my two cents for this one, wouldn't call these suggestions though, I'm really spitballing at this point. The bags are looking great! 1.If backpack mode doesn't sit perfectly, maybe add a cross strap to connect the back straps across the chest like a hiking bag? (My nike bag has a hook and loop one that's a lot simpler than some hiking bags that have bulky clips, makes my heavy bag easy to even skate with) 2. if the small bag could attach to the big bag via the backpack strap loops (and hang over the lid) that would be a cool feature for if you ever need to carry an ungodly amount of stuff/keep things segregated, but that might be overkill and look a bit goofy (like a backpack wearing a backpack 🤡) 3. I like the canvas material best for the little bag, but I think the other one would look good too with a trim/accent colour (like charcoal grey). I think making the inside of the flap the same as the flap on the big bag, or maybe even using that material for like a patch on the lid for your logo would add continuity while keeping them different enough, just a spitball tho
Love what I’m seeing so far! I was so excited to see a bag that can switch from messenger bag to backpack! Ideas/Requests: please make the backpack straps much shorter/adjustable, or make choosing the strap size part of the ordering process. Imagine someone 5’ and small trying to carry it! The side pockets should be expandable/contractible for a water bottle on one side and umbrella on the other, and waterproof so your bottle and wet umbrella doesn’t ruin your electronics or sketchbooks. On the large inner pocket, place a cushioned waterproof divider for a laptop, so you can put other art supplies in the other half. I love the idea of customizing the inserts to match different mediums (pencils, brushes, etc). Good luck!
Definitely see myself using the bigger one over the smaller since I take a laptop to Uni, was a bit hard to tell which pocket would be best for keeping a medium sized pencil case but I’m sure it’s enough. Having both the option for backpack and shoulder straps is perfect definitely keep both or make the straps optional. Think the side pockets should definitely be for either a water bottle or collapsible umbrella so if they leak they don’t seep into any paper. PLEASE, make the zipper holes big enough for keychains to accessorise and also make the bag more identifiable if it’s ever misplaced or stolen. Also it would be great if it came in multiple colour schemes
So I’m a wedding coordinator and could totally see using the large one for my smaller emergency kit! The only thing I’d wish were different is that the marker case have an option where it could clip together and freely stand up, like a ‘lil marker easel. I’ve seen this in a few designs for pencil cases etc. and find it really helpful!
Q: Definitely love the bigger bag, however what about an even bigger bag? perhaps a deluxe-sixed bag that fits a laptop, and drawing tablet? (such as my Huion Kamvas 16 pro) Maybe even that same layout and style of the big bag but just an extra couple of inches to fit larger laptops and tablets?
oh so rather than just an art bag it would be a TECH bag tailored ot fit protect and support the carryign and movign of the larger tech items artists use at home, like the grpahics display tablets, laptops, cameras webcams and stuff, a literal bag where you cna pack up your streaming setup and just go! i REALLY like that idea!! it makes me wanna invest in a streaming laptop and do on the move streaming myself!!! if you could fit in both a phone and a solar powered phone charger you could even hotspot your phone for the internet access and stream out in the park somewhere! and fi not youd be able to fit in the gear to do a recording instead!
Ohh I love these! I do have a few potential Ideas: A removeable Pen / Pencil holder in that front pocket. So then you can use with your pens and pencils and can easily remove it when drawing, the putting it back. Also allows people to remove it to use the pocket for other things. I think a huge selling feature of these bags could be the removeable pouches used for different artist tools! If a worry for the bags is people potentially stealing items. Adding in clips to the end of zippers and hooks so they can hook onto the side of the bags, and the zipper cannot be opened unless this is unclipped. so that they are much harder to get into! These could also work for the potential of adding a lock onto the bag to help keep it closed! For the small bag, perhaps a magnet on the outside pouch to help prevent people from pinching items. Another possibility could be adding in water tight containers so that if an artist does have wet paints, or something they can pervent them from getting on the bag. With that same thought, some sort of water proofing on the bag, idk if this has already been done to the bag, but a sketchbook of mine got soaked in my bag before, and it was a bit heartbreaking cause I tried everything for that not to happen.
I really love the bag! the side pockets of the big bag would be nice for water bottles! I totally imagine myself using it for travel/school Canvas material is my favourite between the two small bags materials, and One tone for the big bag would be nicer I find. Honestly, I would prefer the big bag, as smaller ones are easier to find than big ones that are both nice and fit my laptop/huion tablet. And the pockets are really nice on this one, nicely sized and all. Does the 'headphones' pocket fot a smartphone too? I would love that!
Both bags are great, but I personally would choose the smaller bag. I love the look of a canvas bag and don't think it needs a leather panel, but it should have the backpack straps as an option too. having color options would also be fun...like purple :)
That metal handle is ...no. It needs a different handle because that one is ugly, imo. Otherwise, it's pretty awesome. I'd want to be able to carry a Huion tablet and it looks like I could. I'd use both bags to bring my laptop, drawing tablets, and Android tablet. Using both bags, I could bring them all and all their chargers/power cables.
Hello Jazza Team and Jazza! I love seeing the process of the creation of the bag :D First up, I would rather be interested in the big bag than the small one. I can easily find small bags that could fit my stuff. It’s the big bags that are usually not made for artists and usually just focus on “yeah, put laptop here and here is another compartment for whatever. That’s it”. So, yes, big bag! Pros: - various pocket sizes (where the charging cable could fit, there could also fit longish paint brushes…perfect!) - as Jazza said, the divider fits better in the bigger compartment - the choice of using it as either a backpack or a shoulder bag. I love it. (and yes, shorter straps please, I’m a short person lmao) - a large flap protecting most of the bag but having one compartment easily accessible. Great idea! Suggestions: - double zippers! That way it can be more flexible on where to open the pockets and also being able to secure them with a little lock or hook or such (yes, I travel a lot and dingy train stations are sadly too common) - Maybe one side pocket small enough that could fit pens on the go. Maybe with a small flap, so nothing would fall out, but is still accessible? - And one side pocket big or flexible enough to fit a water bottle (maybe a net material with a flexible band on top?). This is personally super important to me, since I don’t want water (or any liquid) anywhere near the same compartment where my laptop or sketch pad is - A durable material for the flap. From experience faux leather just dissolves after a while. Maybe genuine leather? Or nylon? Or just the canvas fabric? I’m not sure since it would be nice to have it waterproof too. Maybe make the material optional for cost reasons? Also, it would be fun to have it all canvas, so it can easily be personalized (pins, patches etc)…this wouldn’t be nice to do on a faux leather material coz you would be able to see the holes the pins make). - A sturdy/padded bottom to protect the contents - Small loops for keychains and such. (I have a small reusable shopping bag which I can bunch up into a ball and use it like a keychain) So, yeah, I hope this chunk of text wasn’t too much. Thanks again and I cant wait for the next proto type!
Love the backpack mode with a shoulder strap as well. Would like a pullout sorter for pencils/pens as well as the marker sorter. As a retired (Boomer) person, I live the idea of a special purposed bag. It is such a hassle to repurpose the bags I have to actually use for walking outings. I usually just take photos for reference and sketch once I am back home. I love to do my sketching in the environment.
I think that there is a lack of products/businesses that are focused on organising fiddly things such as art supplies that all come in different shapes and sizes, efficiently. Bags and travel organisers I think are just the start of what you can really do with your knowledge in this field. As both an artist and a makeup artist I face these issues everyday and would love for someone in a creative field to help overcome these barriers with some high quality and intensely designed products. I love the bag design but an elasticated water bottle holder would help with efficiency. I also think that having a lighter colour inside the bag would help people see all the hidden pockets easier so they can gravitate towards using them more instead of chucking things in loose even after you’ve designed the pockets for purpose
OOOOOEEEEE this looks good. I think the side pockets should stay big for bottles, if anyone were to use this for watercolour then they know they can store clean water and paint on the go ☺️ also staying hydrated on the go is Very important 😉
I like both bags! I often switch between a smaller and bigger bag depending on the occasion. I love the idea of having the "marker holder" be universal so I can switch it between bags without having to unpack and repack all my markers/pens/etc. As far as the side pockets, having one be large with an elastic on the top (to keep a large pocket for water bottles but also be able to secure smaller or smoother things) and shorter one for those things like keys and such that you just toss in. Also I fully support the idea of cushioning the bottom. Keeping the materials something that is ideal to paint and customize is what I look for in every bag. (That leather and canvas looks PERFECT!) The "accessible" pocket on the back of the back could do with a thinner inner pocket within pocket to keep things like itinerary separate from other things like wallet and phone so it doesn't get crumpled while riding together. I am very excited to see these come to fruition!
Small bag all the way! I believe one material for the whole bag make it styled and customizable. To the honest, the mini bag is an excellent EDC option for the modern artist and normal people alike. I’m soooo excited for the next updates🔥🔥🔥
Big bag should have big enough pockets for water bottles OR they could have a snapping cover for smaller bits (or one of each?) Love this!! Not an artist myself, but really appreciate the care your putting into the bag ^w^
Could you add a marker holder for the larger pocket in the big bag? Along with the extra padding on the bottom of the larger bag could you make the bottom a little wider equal to the top, so that wider items would fit to the bottom. On the vertical pocket on on the larger bag could you add a pencil holder pocket. Not a removable one just a separator so loose pens wouldn’t fall around. I think having a water bottle pocket is important. Could you make one side pocket for the water bottle or just have flaps over the pockets if there is not a pocket for a water bottle. I can see myself using the bag as well as my husband who is not an artist. Very practical options. I hope there will be a more colorful option as well as brown or black. Keep working hard, your work ethic is amazing and my whole family enjoys your art boxes and your videos.
Possibly try to do an etchr labs art satchel thing where you have 2 straps that double as a shoulder strap when connected and can be disconnected for backpack straps
Love the bags! Definitely see myself using both versions. Like many have said, for one side pocket, I would suggest adding a. - an elastic on either or both sides as part of the seam. B. - Not sure if it would work functionally but you could also double add in a type of design down the middle of the side pocket like an isosceles triangle short side at the top and have that material be elastic to help fit a bottle. Both for function and aesthetics. C. - Lastly for the side pocket, I would suggest including a vertical zipper, which when unzipped it opens with more fabric to allow for more space and a bottle. The zipper could be camouflaged too. For the second side pocket possibly shorten it and add a small flap to cover the bobs and ends you add.. the flap could be just that a flap, with no clasp or closure just a cover if you will. For the small bag, my gripe with those small open pockets on the back is that if the pocket happens to flip upside down things will fall. That said you still want easy access. So maybe instead of adding something like a zipper or claps, just a magnetic hold, like used in the big flap would really help provide some slight security while maintaining easy accessibility and have it be more ergonomic. I’m also curious if a tablet would fit in the back open pocket.. I could definitely see myself putting my iPad Pro in that pocket to allow for more room in the main compartment, especially if it were to have a magnetic closure/hold.
For the company name, I like "Factory Reset". Just going off that feeling you talked about where it's easier to stay organized because it's satisfying to reset the bag after it gets messy. I also think it kinda encapsulates the vibe you've got going with the colors and materials. Overall super pumped for these to come out. I'd probably end up using this as a college bag and it seems perfect. Room for my notebook, ipad and laptop, plus chargers and my absurd pen collection. I agree with everyone else that making at least one pocket fit a water bottle would be a bigggg improvement though.
I love these concepts! I’m very excited about specific marker storage and would love to see options for other types of physical art supplies. Such as inserts for the other pockets. These could be for items like pencils, ink pens, and paint brushes. I would use any open side pockets for water bottles. The front flap looks nice and potentially customizable but would it be possible to have an option for the Jazza mural to be on the front flap? It could be colored or just an outline to fill in. I would prefer the smaller size personally and I would use it for on the go traditional art.
That bigger bag actually looks like it can actually hold a 11x14 sketchbook. Which makes me thrilled because you have no idea how hard it's been finding bags that can be versitle for art, but can also hold a sketchbook that big. Call me odd for wanting to carrying around a monstrosity of a sketchbook, but it gives me room to just draw without impevement of size, but carriable enough that I'm not fumbling in carrying it when I do have the right bag. It also looks customizable enough to actually create a look of "Bag of Holding" if you wanted to to fit in settings that would probably work for a more "Renissance Fair" dress up. The Small bag also looks really good and I think it would be good to see both be sold as it gives options for the grab and go and the one who, like me, have been struggling in trying to find something that works with their larger sketchbooks that won't make it a cumbersome struggle to pull out and draw and then put back in.
For the side pocket, I have always used one for a large water bottle, and the other for quick grab small items or quick temporary holding. To prevent that pocket flapping issue, maybe do an elastic band in the top edge. That would hold it tight when not in use and allow the opening to scale to whatever it needs to hold. Also, the canvas material for the small bag would be my preference and definitely looks higher end. They are coming along great! You can see the care and dedication you are putting into this. Great work!
I absolutely love that you're working on something as useful as an art bag. and the back pack design is so cool, where it can shift from a hand or shoulder held bag to a back pack is so cool, the thought the mini bag could do the same is exiting. the one thing I would add is a spot to put a water bottle, either a strap, slit or pouch on the inside of the biggest pocket, where the top flap on the biggest pocket has a pouch under it fitting the bottle sideways or like most comments are saying the side pocket. id take it one step further and add more height widen and deepen the pockets on the side and add a flap above the pocket clipping by one of those 'clip buttons' (idk what their called their like on ice skating helmets to but those face gates on. their very convenient for an easy reach pocket.) I personally like the smaller one. I have small items. and the rough texture gives it a nice finishing edge. good luck with your bag, definitely something id buy :) (the comments edited bc yt thought it would be funny to delete half my comment so I retyped it >:(
Really love the evolution of these bags. I’d happily buy both sizes, smaller one for everyday use and bigger one for classes. I would use the rear pocket for a laptop/tablet, but a divider would be good. I’d love an elastic topped pocket to hold a reusable water bottle on both bags, currently most backpacks side pockets are too small and carrying a water bottle everywhere is a pain, I’ve lost count of how many I’ve left on the bus/train! Love the multi-way design but better adjustment on the backpack straps is a must. A centre divider in the main compartment of the big bag would be really good too, saves having to fudge around trying to find smaller items. I love the idea someone suggested about bigger zip pulls - a definite must. Also another suggestion another person mentioned having the zip pulls double to hold a lock for travel. Canvas is an awesome fabric, hard wearing and can be creatively personalised by the owner. The small one would be great with the pockets an inch taller and a bit deeper, the main pocket is ok for a tablet but what about a few sketch books as well? Well done though Jazza, you truly are taking everyone’s comments onboard to create the best art/hobby bag available, can’t wait for the next update.
I think in one of the smaller pockets there should be something to hold pen/pencils, and the straps should be a bit smaller. Thank you so much Jazza, I will definitely be buying this ones it’s finished
A neat idea would be for the backpack straps having a strap or something to hold a pencil or two would be really cool. Doesn't have to be a zipped thing just a quick place for a pencil One of the outside pockets should be large enough for a waterbottle. I can see someone going on a hike and taking the bag with them for some scenic drawing. I think it is also good for watercolor artists to have a water source that is outside the bag to prevent spillage. I think the other side pocket should be a closable pen/pencil/brush pocket. That way you have them in the easiest accessible part. And have a mini inner pocket close to the top for erasers. Make sure what ever the top handle is made or attached with it is one of the most durable parts cause mine always fall apart. Also I love color options. One thing you could offer is having a universal black bag but different color straps. Mix matching pink, red, blue, black, etc. With a black bag would be very noice.
I love the book bag feature on the large bag and it would be nice if the side pockets had some kind of sleek elastic bags so when not in use has a flushed finish. The look of the canvas bags are so satisfying and I agree that it has a sense of familiarity. Love to see how this project continues to get developed. :)
They both looks amazing so far! I would personally love to have a medium sized pocket with a vertical opening, a bit of-center of the back, to easily reach wallet, phone and passport when wearing it as a backpack. When going out; I like to feel my valuables touch my back so I know that they are safe. Another idea would be to have some sort of cover or insert to keep pins and buttons safe, and the lid hole-free and waterproof. Another suggestion is to have another material at the bottom of the bag, to keep it sturdier and more durable for wear and tear. The metal rings could also be a bit thicker and more solid to make sure they don`t snap when they get cought on to something. Bottle pocket is also nice.
I know this is a late comment, but as others have said, I love a water bottle/umbrella pocket, but it needs to be able to hold a good size refillable bottle. The Nordace Siena backpack does this while still looking professional with an elastic on one side that also has a crease so the whole pocket can lay flat while not in use. I like the canvas better for the small bag, it can hold pins/buttons or even be drawn/painted on by people wanting to customize their bag. I'm more of a tech oriented person at the moment, but need a variety of pens/pencils and I am so looking forward to this bag, especially the laptop brick pocket. Very excited by the backpack mode, and I can't wait for the kickstarter.
I absolutely love this idea. Something like this can cater for, not just artists, but for people who carry around equipment all day, to and from jobs. There is another bag that I currently have that has a powerbank slot "hidden" in the lining of the bag which then has a hole on the outside of the bag for the cord to go through so you don't have to have the powerbank sitting out and it's in its own place. So, for the pocket that you said could be for headphones or a powerbank, if there was a hole in that so you could run a cord through it, while still keeping the pocket closed, that would be cool. In one of the inner pockets, a "hidden" zip pocket could go ok (like the one in purses) to hold things that you don't want in pockets but that should be sitting in any of the other pockets. I think I'm thinking about this as a everyday bag rather than a artist bag tbh, but if the bag looks this cool, who wouldn't want it as an everyday bag?
I love the marker case idea! I like that it can be taken out. I wonder if it would be able to have different inserts. For example if there was a option for a colored pencil insert and the user can switch out between what materials they use. I currently carry around 3 pencil cases because I have so many pens, pencils etc. so it’s important to have space for things like that. Definitely needs to fit a water bottle. Not only for hydration but for watercolor artists. Maybe a water tight/ waterproof pocket so people can travel with ink or water brushes and not have to worry too much. Maybe some straps that can clip a portable easel to the bottom? For example if you look at yoga bags that have straps for the mats. This makes me think that down the line you might need to have separate types of bags because a plein air Artist will need a bag that can carry those sorts of things. I’d check out blogilates work out bags here on RUclips. They’re for working out but I didn’t realize what a bag could really do until I saw her videos about them 😻
I'm LOVING this design for the big bag! The outside pocket that you can access without opening the whole bag is perfect! I also don't care about a water bottle pocket so the side pockets being for extra little goodies would be cool. Maybe a button or zipper on them, though. For the smaller one I love the canvas look more and I like the whole thing as canvas and not having the same flap as the larger one. I plan to order both when they become available!
Loving the smaller bag! Only thing I’d want to mention is that I hope the material for its lid stays the same. The bigger bag lid material seems really formal and I prefer the more casual look :)
maybe for the side pockets where a water bottle is supposed to fit, maybe put two small zippers that can zip down and up to make the space bigger. So zipped down would make the pocket bigger, hiding the extra material. Would love to send you some sketches of what I'm referring to.
Oooh good bags! Side pockets on big bag for water bottles, umbrella, spare shopping bags etc I love the magnetised closure of the big one but dislike the difference in the black flap. As an artist with mobility issues I'd love both bags but would only use the smaller, lighter weight satchel. Well done and keep up the great work 👍
My neurodivergent brain loves these bags! There's a spot for everything and it's even customizable so that I can make it my own for whichever needs I have! At this stage it looks like a fantastic product! Thank you for trying out a way to create a product that is perfect for traveling artists! The backpack mode is amazing! I would definitely use it a lot, yes, I do agree the straps should be made to tighten it. I would suggest adding the black top cover on the smaller bag, so that they both seem like a unit. Having a place for a water bottle is super nice and important for the "on the go" days. You could try to look into some sort of elastic strap that secures the bottle in place, or even make a small flap to cover the top area with (but that would be a problem for using taller bottles though) Something I suggest is adding a divider in the laptop bag section. If I was traveling I would want to keep my laptop and my drawing tablet close to each other, but also prevent the two from scratching or making contact with each other.
Oh wow! Love the backpack mode! I think the side pockets are good for water bottle and umbrella so you keep the wet things away from your supplies! I could totally use this for the day job so I can bring my arting stuff to use at lunch and on the commute and the stuff I need for the DJ!
One of she side pockets for the big bag DEFINITELY needs to be for bottles. Everyone needs to drink and you don't want to risk your drink getting all over your laptop/art supplies. You can elasticise the covering so that it sits "streamlined" to the bag but can expand to fit any sized bottle (within reason). Can also be used to hold your umbrella if you need it.
I'm so excited for another episode. Though this isn't for me, i love the process and community idea generation. You can make something really functional and accessible. A few things for those with weaker hands since the big bag can hold a lot. Seeing the handle makea me want to cry. That would be slicing into my hands/fingers fully loaded. So something thicker/comfortable would help. And a rubber coating on the zippers for easier grip and less scratches on electronics.
If we’re voting on which one to prefer, I really liked the bigger one. I am an artist but havnt transitions yet to doing digital art (although I hope to soon but you know, money lol). So as you were going through the pockets I was envisioning what they could be used for in regard to more traditional media. The long short pocket for the computer cord id probably use for paintbrushes, the pocket used for headphones id probably put my exacto knives and erasers and such, just some things like that. Thank you for working on this project!
They look great! As a person who uses various briefcases in my daily work, the first thing I noticed (and it was confirmed when you carried it) is that the offset handle in the big bag may make it unbalanced to carry with the weight pulling away from the handle and your body making the bag hang at an angle. A more centered handle, or a two offset handles would work best to fix that! Keep up the good work!!
Now that I need glass, it's hard to find bags with compartment for eyeglasses case, sunglasses and indoor glasses. Or contact lens stuff
And pockets for treats. Obviously. Sherpa would never forgive you otherwise ;)
Water bottle pocket for sure. And the slimmed down pocket on the other side will make it harder to pickpocket from.
I love this idea! He could also add a stretchy material to the side of the pockets to have a similar effect.
The wrinkly elastic pockets usually look less professional and get snagged on things like hooks.
@@BrichaJulbry The Nordace Siena Backpack does this, but it lies flat so it still looks professional.
Great ideas!
Great feedback! I especially love you pointing out features to keep in mind for accessibility, particularly the zippers!
@@bakibadguy Accessibility for the win! That saying is probably Waaay out of date, but once one's into one's 5th decade, time just really flies by. even though I don't have specific accessibility needs, it's always *great* to take those into consideration. (And they often make life easier for the rest of us, too...)
I love the idea of an umbrella pocket
Bag Altercation:
for the bottles pocket, i’d add some elastic where it makes contact with the bag so when youre not using it, its slim and when you are, its tight yet spacious
I agree, elastic or a shock cord like someone else suggested would help hold your drinks in and stop small things like keys or change from sliding out easily
Yes!, I just purchased a backpack that has the elastic on the side pockets, it’s great
I also like that kind of pockets and in addition to that it would be nice to have som kind of slim clip or hook in an elastic strip that is sewn on the inside of the pocket for holding like a keychain or whatever you can hook on to it. I really like additions like that in my bags. If the stip is attached just inside the upper end of the pocket its super easy to grab and you wont have to dig in the pocket to get to whatever is connected to it.
Came to say the same thing. Elastic sides all day. Flexible functionality is the best feature. The bag looks great by the way.
agree on the elastic
Loving how they look so far!! Here’s my feedback as a student at a fine arts school- I’ll make sure to also shoot this to you in an email w additional info n pictures :)
For clarity, I’m primarily a digital illustrator with a pretty hefty commute for my studio classes this coming semester.
Add some giant canvasses to that and it’s an awkward train ride to say the least haha
oh the crossbody strap is a smart idea, i underestimated their value as a student
Yes! Options!
I could see having two small straps that hook from the small bag to the top loops of the big bag for back pack mode.
Dividers 🥵🙏
Yes😍
Yeah a padded divider would help with a tablet and laptop transporting, then be able to take it out for slightly more room for books that don't need to be separated by the divider. Great suggestion. 😁
Loving all of this! Some suggestions for the bags if your interested though are below:
Big bag:
1. Larger side pocket to fit a water bottle.
2. Waterproof if it isn't already
3. A fully canvas option if possible, I personally love the look of the canvas
4. A more comfortable handle so even when full it is nice to carry by the handle
5. Not a suggestion but I LOVE the backpack option
Small Bag:
1. I agree the canvas is the winner for sure
2. The small pocket at the back is great for quick access but a magnet holding it shut would be even better (like you see in some handbags) as that way small pieces of paper won't fall out if the back gets knocked over)
3. Waterproof if not already
Overall, I think they are both really fantastic but I would only be able to afford one so I'd probably go the larger one
Did someone say *INSULATED DRINK POCKETS* 🔥💦
- I would prefer to have a slightly bulkier side pocket to hold a water bottle
- That small pen/marker/headphone pouch is 10000% going to be where I stick at least one set of dice.
I also like the look of all canvas, and canvas is easier to customise which I enjoy doing.
Agree on the full canvas bag
I agree
So do I
One thing that i would love to see change, is color of the inner material. To something extremely vibrant or just not the same color, as a lot of the stuff that will end up getting put in to the bag. So that it is easy to locate, especially in the big compartment. Maybe something like a Safety Orange or Vivid Orange
Safety Orange (ff6600) & Vivid Orange (ff5f00)
I think the Leather Cover will help a lot in the rain protection department, at least for the non quick access portion
you're looking for the word "water proof" and i agree... a water proof material OR something that we as customers could easily water proof would be nice!
Waxed canvas repels water and looks awesome.
I was thinking about customizing the canvas too. It would be easier to paint with fabric paints vs specialized leather/pleather paint.
I mean many art supplies can spill, so this would be important to include
(also sorry for this whole block of a text with 0 structure, my excuse is that i´m writing this with no available coffee and a migraine)
Good stitching on the loops for the straps would be most important imo, wouldn't want to lose a $1.5k laptop to a 1.5c broken thread.
as someone who didnt have a car for the majority of her life, i love bags that can be changed and this big bag looks so promising! from msngr to backpack and has the flapless back and bottom pocket, i love it! the smaller one is super cute too for the days you just have quick errands to run. Since a lot of female clothing dont have pockets, these look great!
"If I'm not organized, I'm disorganized" sounds like something that should go on a t-shirt 😅
YES! 😂
YES!! It screams ADHD brain and my neurodivergent brain is loving it lol, I'd wear the shit outta a t-shirt with that on 😅
Loving both of the bags, and will be getting them once they are avaliable for purchase. As a sutdent and a pilot, being able to have a large but slim bag with carring options is amazing and a smaller bag of the same quality makes it easy to have a bag that does not take up as much space. Cannot wait to see the small tweaks that you make to the two bags!
i would actually prefer if the smaller bag would be a backpack instead of what it is right now i just feel that a backpack would be more comfortable
Making it waterproof and/or easily washable would also be a benefit for such pouches, I would think!
I think you should use those grabbable side pockets for all your expensive items- hundred dollar notes, latest smart phones, jewellery, etc.
Way cool! Love the color scheme. The side pockets seem perfect for for 0,5l bottles or an umbrella.
(My nike bag has a hook and loop one that's a lot simpler than some hiking bags that have bulky clips, makes my heavy bag easy to even skate with)
2. if the small bag could attach to the big bag via the backpack strap loops (and hang over the lid) that would be a cool feature for if you ever need to carry an ungodly amount of stuff/keep things segregated, but that might be overkill and look a bit goofy (like a backpack wearing a backpack 🤡)
@@spiritretro3571 yes! Exactly. Love it
Ohh I love these!
I do have a few potential Ideas:
A removeable Pen / Pencil holder in that front pocket.
I totally imagine myself using it for travel/school
Canvas material is my favourite between the two small bags materials, and One tone for the big bag would be nicer I find.
I love seeing the process of the creation of the bag :D
First up, I would rather be interested in the big bag than the small one. I can easily find small bags that could fit my stuff. It’s the big bags that are usually not made for artists and usually just focus on “yeah, put laptop here and here is another compartment for whatever. That’s it”. So, yes, big bag!
Pros:
- various pocket sizes (where the charging cable could fit, there could also fit longish paint brushes…perfect!)
- as Jazza said, the divider fits better in the bigger compartment
- the choice of using it as either a backpack or a shoulder bag. I love it. (and yes, shorter straps please, I’m a short person lmao)
- a large flap protecting most of the bag but having one compartment easily accessible. Great idea!
Suggestions:
- double zippers! That way it can be more flexible on where to open the pockets and also being able to secure them with a little lock or hook or such (yes, I travel a lot and dingy train stations are sadly too common)
- Maybe one side pocket small enough that could fit pens on the go. Maybe with a small flap, so nothing would fall out, but is still accessible?
- And one side pocket big or flexible enough to fit a water bottle (maybe a net material with a flexible band on top?). This is personally super important to me, since I don’t want water (or any liquid) anywhere near the same compartment where my laptop or sketch pad is
- A durable material for the flap.
- A sturdy/padded bottom to protect the contents
- Small loops for keychains and such. (I have a small reusable shopping bag which I can bunch up into a ball and use it like a keychain)
So, yeah, I hope this chunk of text wasn’t too much. Thanks again and I cant wait for the next proto type!
I've never been so excited to see someone take an empty bag out of a cardboard box!
EDIT: Bag had baglings inside, so was not, in fact, empty.
Even if it didn't have baglings inside it woul still not, in fact, be empty.
@@Kio_Kurashi Fullest empty bag I've ever seen!
Petition to get “Bagling” as the official name of the mini bags. Lmao
Also another idea, maybe put some buckles on the bags to connect them so you can expand the big bag even bigger
Am I awake at 5 am? Yes. Am I excited for an art bag I probably won't have the money for? Also yes.
Love the smaller bags as I use A5 sketch pads ☺️
Jazza is living my favorite quote: “Be regular and orderly in your life, so that you may be violent and original in your work.” - Gustave Flaubert
That is an excellent quote that I have never heard before I read your comment. Thank you for sharing it! 😃
Big bag should have big enough pockets for water bottles OR they could have a snapping cover for smaller bits (or one of each?)
Love this!!
I hope they add a jazza logo on the bag that would be cool like jazzas art box also the side pockets I'd use for water bottles
Great work!
I absolutely love that you're working on something as useful as an art bag.
and the back pack design is so cool, where it can shift from a hand or shoulder held bag to a back pack is so cool, the thought the mini bag could do the same is exiting.
the one thing I would add is a spot to put a water bottle, either a strap, slit or pouch on the inside of the biggest pocket, where the top flap on the biggest pocket has a pouch under it fitting the bottle sideways or like most comments are saying the side pocket. id take it one step further and add more height widen and deepen the pockets on the side and add a flap above the pocket clipping by one of those 'clip buttons' (idk what their called their like on ice skating helmets to but those face gates on. their very convenient for an easy reach pocket.)
I personally like the smaller one. I have small items. and the rough texture gives it a nice finishing edge.
good luck with your bag, definitely something id buy :)
(the comments edited bc yt thought it would be funny to delete half my comment so I retyped it >:(
Really love the evolution of these bags.
Doesn't have to be a zipped thing just a quick place for a pencil
One of the outside pockets should be large enough for a waterbottle.
Side pockets on big bag for water bottles, umbrella, spare shopping bags etc
I love the magnetised closure of the big one but dislike the difference in the black flap.
You could try to look into some sort of elastic strap that secures the bottle in place, or even make a small flap to cover the top area with (but that would be a problem for using taller bottles though)
Something I suggest is adding a divider in the laptop bag section.
