Haha yes they are, as much as I love using analog gear as it can be temperamental from time to time. but those are part of the trait are part of the trait.
Thank you, and great question. I hook up my compressor at the end of my chain. I send the main output of my mix in logic first into my Pulteq style EQs and from there into the compressor and back to logic.I use it to glue my mix together by adding a little bit of saturation and compression coming from the circuit. Hope this answer your question, but feel free to ask if you need more help.
Theoretical setup will it work? Interface with multiple io, hardware synths, hardware samplers, and outboard processors. The music i create is all done OTB with hardware sequencers, synths etc, what i would like to be able to do is mix on the fly with all my outboard gear whilst im creating a track, meaning before anything would be recorded to a computer. For example using an outboard reverb for all my drums before on similar to like you would with a aux send on a mixer. Grouping drums/synths sending them out to outboard eqs, Using a comp on the masterbus etc. Basically what im saying i would like to be able to utilize all my outboard gear before anything would be recorded and commited to the computer? In otherwords having an analog mixer workflow with an interface. Is this type of workflow possible with just a interface or would i run into all sorts latency issues from the roundtrip to outboard gear? I would like to avoid having a mixer if i can. Suggestions on similar types of workflow with a setup like this? Cheers!
Hi great video! Have you found any advantage to using the Apogee Quartet in logic? (the apple integration) I was thinking of using it for my mix routing too. ( pretty affordable for a home studio) I assume the converters are pretty transparent sounding round trip. thanks
Thanks a lot, wen it comes to the Quartet I can't stop loving it, the converters are incredibly good and will work incredibly well with your set up also the apple integration is realy handy as you can control every input parameter such as gain and polarity from logic, making call backs quite fast and reliable. I totally recommend it!!!
thanks so much for this video BARDON Music ! pls make more videos on how to use outboard gear with Logic , specifically, like using your EQ pultec + drawmer 1978 compressor in a chain (using only 2 ins and outs ) vs using the 2 outboard gear separately (using 4 ins and outs), the question i have is, what needs to be done in terms of precaution for sending signal from LOGIC -> output of audio interface -> Pultec EQ out -> Drawmer 1978 input -> Drawmer 1978 output -> input of audio interface -> Logic what if the levels are too loud going into the second outboard gear (drawmer 1978) and what if the level coming back into logic at end, from Drawmer is too LOUD (bec in analog we can easily get more level)? a question for you: when you use the I/O plugin in logic, is there a rule for the volume level that audio MUST be sent from logic INTO the outboard gear (Like lets say -7db, and then when it comes back into Logic, + 7 db) OR is it just that the volume level of signal should be loud enough yet not clipping? the main concern is especially if using TUBE outboard gear, if the level is too loud (hot) going into the outboard gear, it can overload the circuit and possibly ruin the tubes or even if no tubes, can possibly cause some damage?
Those are great questions my friend, will work on a proper video explaining how iI get the most out of my gear only using 2 outputs. When it comes to your specific question regarding output levels the chances of you damaging your gear are quite slim BUT you ought to be careful. Remember that depending on the amount of energy being sent into the EQ your signal will be affected differently by it, so in order to combat that I set the outputs on my interface (Apogee Quartet) to be +4 Db and always at unity gain, to make sure that im sending the proper amount of energy into my analog gear. Hope this helps and sorry for the late replay being incredibly busy working on the new studio!!!
Thanks for the info! I’m still a bit confused as to how the new compressed/eq sounds are captured in the daw? I can tweak a single track but I don’t know how to save the new edit. Any tips?
Thanks for asking, basically speaking what you do when using analog gear is sending your audio to be processed by your outboard gear by using your interface outputs, and what you hear as a feed back is not been "printed" in reality is the signal being processed in the outside returning to your Logic session. In order to export your final mix you have to bounce in real time which means that the song will play itself while bouncing because what you are doing is making a new recording of the all of your tracks being summed into a stereo track. Hope this answer your first question, now regarding the second one I will need you to elaborate more if possible haha.
Now what is gonna happen next is this Yes girls and boys you're going to play my first song out now on my channel. Jk but it was made with bandlab instruments and bad mastered with logic pro x
Actually you wont believe it but the first song I ever recorded was using a low quality web cam microphone from the 90's on a computer running windows 98 using the built in voice recorder app... it wasn't pretty haha let alone the quality of the song itself left much to be desired =P. Will try to find any of those files if possible. Thanks for commenting!!!
We should get a count on how many times you say “girls and boys” on screen 😂.
Great info thank you!
I don't know what got to me that day haha the count is high in this one. Thanks for you comment and I'm glad it was useful for you!!!
how do i use this setup to use it on a mix bus i have a stereo 1073 that i'd like to use to process the main mix, thanks
You work it out? Trying to do this too
Glad I found your channel, subbed!
Awesome, thank you!
6:42 Those are some scratchy pots, girls and boys

@@bardonmusicYou need to work those knobs, girls and boys ❤
thank you !!
You're welcome!
Very useful and good video!! You did a great job, thank you!
Glad it was helpful!

@@bardonmusic Hey thnx for the answer what I meant is do you use the I/O plug-in to route the analog compressor?
So helpful! Good job!
