Tracking digital sounds through analog gear THEN mixing, will get you a lot closer to a finished and full sound. I've learned that over the years of mixing hybrid, re-recording stems and vocals through outboard gear (with great converters) makes for less work in the long run. Great video!

I was in audio school when TPAB came out and my instructor, who used to work with Dre, heard it, the first thing he said was "Aw man that SSL goodness!" I was like "How tf did you know that??" and he said "I used to record there, duh!" Lol. I used to prefer the Neve sound over SSL because I trained on an old 4000E while the Neve I trained on was a VR70 that used to belong to Lucasfilm and was used to mix Jurassic Park. Once I tried the 9000 series I was sold, though.

I just realized 9 years in how great the sound of this album is. I loved it from the start for the poetry and for the beats. It's got sneaky musicianship in it though. It works so great as a sorta standard hip hop album it took me lots of listens to start to appreciate the tones of the instruments and the non-electronicness (ha, that sounds corny). It was a phenomenal achievement, when you think about it. There probably wont be anything else to compare, except maybe big steppers. But not really...
