These oldies are GREAT!!! I wish I was around back then. I love the 1930s and 40s humor and respect the game for being much harder back then as well. No targeting arrows, no dots. Just boards. No fancy coverstocks and weight blocks. Just a pure sport. Make someone respect even more the greats like Ned and Andy for what they were able to really do. Amazing how even things like the approach is different as well. Now we teach staying behind the ball through the backswing, following through straight up instead of across the body. Amazing how things change.
"Less than 300 perfect games bowled a year." This is real bowling! Today bowling isn't even popular anymore and there are more 300 games recorded than ever with synthetic technologies. I bowled a 197 with a house ball on old wood lanes in terrible shape. Wonder what I could have done on a modern lane in perfect condition with the best ball!?
@@drummachine434 Yup. I have never played candlepin, but 10 pin is "boring" because it is too easy. Candlepin looks a lot more difficult and creative with the ability to use fallen pins.

You've got that RIGHT 1,000% because this was when bowling was bowling.
Ned Day had over 100 perfect games during his day.
i love the sound of those old pins
Rich Dziuba Me too.
Solid hard wood painted white. Pins now are scrap wood glued together and lathed into shape then covered in a plastic.
The pins sound more high pitched than todays bowling
It's amazing how they did these trick shots back then
Andy Varipapa was incredible!
@6:08 watched that short clip of him nailing the Hitler pin over and over again I love it 🤣
I find it cool how 82 years later bowling is still almost the exact same but just new advanced technology
Isn't that true of all sports? Well, except for the ones that didn't exist 82 years ago?
They should call this one "How to Get Kicked Out of the Bowling Alley".

Bringing a couple newly drilled (though reactive) balls to the wood lane house this afternoon.. let's see if I can beat that 197!
10 pin is easy as hell. I wish candlepin would be more popular in the US

Andy varipapa what a name from the past they don't make them like that anymore
6:08 that Hitler pin 😂
This was released in January 1942, shortly after our entry into World War II.
What was the deal with the back of the hand aimed toward the floor (at the top of the backswing) back then?
4:57 OVER THE LINE! Lol
Wow this is so cool I love it!!
I was joking tonight about wanting a 12 guage for the corner pin 😂
hi-tech overhead projector
"Girlfriend obviously uses a lighter ball"..." And she shouldnt bowl in high heels"... Its the War on Women!
MrDownslider you shouldn't bowl in high heels you could sprain your ankle. ouch!
