I watched your video today. Your fly looks great. I'm writing to thank you for a few tying tips you gave during your demonstration. I liked the idea of making a turn under the the tail butt section, clipping off the tag, then removing the turn and going on. It works. I tried making a tail from my Hare's mask last week and failed, but using a Swiss Clamp today to grab a 1/2" wide strip, and then pulling 1/8" from it for each fly, I made it through for 6 flies. You suggested pointing the Peacock herl barbs down to end with them pointing outward once they're wrapped. Another good idea. The best tip for me was that when you tie on the Partridge Hackle, you fold the tied on tip back, and then apply a little wax to get the barbs folded back. This left me with very little cleanup around the hook eye when done. I've spent tons of time clipping away the mess I made on and around the hook eye, and thought I needed finer scissor points, but better technique leaves no mess that requires fine scissor points. I liked the "how to fish it" tips as well. Thanks very much.{ When I gain from watching tying videos I head to the sponsor's site to repay them. I bought a few 718 hooks, a few C200R, a few Umpqua 203, and a few tools. I appreciate your lessons. I screwed up and didn't order French tinsel though! Today I used brassie gold wire on four flies, and brassie red on the other two. I'll tie more.)
How are you getting such long hairs from the ears??? I have 2 hareline hares masks and on both of them the hair on the ears is barely long enough to get a grip on it.
Not all rabbits are created equal, if you are able to find longer guard hairs elsewhere on the mask, we would recommend using those, or whatever length is appropriate for the size hook you are tying on!
