    Trying to achieve low / minimal maintenance is not laziness. Spending time and effort (and money!) up front is well spent. The only consistent maintenance required of myself is cleaning the mechanical filters on the pumps and the line out of the bog filter. Thanks as always Kev, make a great day !

    This is great, can't wait to see how your filterless ponds progress. I'm kind of addicted to using filtration, because of the aquariums. I like that they provide surface agitation and extra places for bacteria to grow, but I do have two very small ones with no filter at all, and one larger one with only a sponge filter. I feel like my 300 gallon pond needs the bog because Bertha (my common pleco) makes a lot of waste. /// wish me luck over the next week, we've got a storm and the temps are going to dip down near freezing. So far I've been able to maintain tropical temperatures, but I didn't have to deal with rain!

    Hi Kev, it has been two years now since i have been using your suggestion for rock filters, not as suffocated as yours, my filters are going from ponds to 3 separate containers before going back to pond. I also added the , kitty litter with dolomite (sorry cant remember name, it's that experiment you did with two of your system); Would like to say a million thanks, for the first time in 18 years I have been keeping koi they are healthy and not constantly dying, even though by every standard my pond is over stock ( every time I turn around they have babies). I have reduce the number of chemical down to three (3) which not only save me ton of money but my fish are happier, my constant cleaning as been reduce to , spring, and end of summer, thank you thank you thank you.

    Realized the other day I did not have any walk around videos of my setup. Did a quick 60 second walk around to give a general idea of how it is setup. Has brief view of my pre-bog muck filter setup. Hoping to add more explanatory vids when Spring comes around. Would be excited if you stopped by and checked it out.

    We haven't watched all of your videos, yet, lol.
    We have a pond, base is natural clay no liner, approximately 2000 gallons of water, established with plants, minnows, comet goldfish and plecostomus and a catfish, crawfish and whatever nature has snuck into it, about 5 years ago. Evaporation or water loss varies, sometimes it is a lot other times not so much. This year we started having brown algae and that's how we found you. We intend to go the route of bog filter after discovering your video's. Are any of your ponds unlined?
    Thanks
    Chriss

      Only the pond behind the nursery. The clay I have makes it almost impossible to achieve clear water without a liner.

      Thank you for your response Kev.
      I think we can get ours clear with a big filter. We are certainly going to try. During the cooler Florida months, the pond becomes crystal clear and it's such a delight to enjoy seeing everything in it. As soon as Florida heats up, our pond clouds up. We have a sump pump, moves 3000 gallons an hour, but husband feels that's too much and that a sump pump wouldn't be a good substitute for our bog filter.

    What’s your take on adding logs/trunks to ponds in regard to water staining/clarity and safety for aquatic life?
    I’ve held off on adding any to my pond because of conflicting info, but I’d like to. Not sure if you’ve made any videos about this. Thanks. 👍🏼

    • @Ozponds
      @Ozponds  8 месяцев назад

      It has the potential to stain the water, doesn’t usually last long. It’s completely natural. I’ve used logs and trunks in quite a few of my ponds. The hard part is finding pieces I like. If I had more access to nice pieces I’d use more.
