Dragons have become the Rorschach test of D&D. Every seems to pick a birthstone and then proceeds to bring those 3rd grade last period doodles to life. I propose the lint dragon, next. Nemesis of the dryer sheet dragon. Or if you wanna stay earthy, the gypsum dragon. Has minimum hp per hd and breath weapon is drywall dust.

A massive glowing ancient dragon that just leaves a fight when it becomes bored. That could be a good background for a broken or possibly insane dragon slayer. Or both. All: "I spent my life trying to climb a mountain that grew. The further i ascended the smaller i became. We are all motes of dust to things that cannot be burned!?!? Are we insects or do we even exist? When will the mountain blow our worlds away!?!?"

this is making want to see a dragon party. A group of dragons with powers and abilities that compliment each other just like an adventuring party. This thing being like the low health glass cannon mage, a red dragon your dps, blue dragon crowd control, white dragon tank, ect. Or something like that. And then you'd need a good excuse for them to be together... maybe fighting some sorta demon or demi-god. Or maybe they are all grouping up in a one time fight against a dracolich
This stuff is making wanna dm

Love all these videos. My campaign right now, is going to deal with almost every type of dragon out there.
When my players say, I'm going to find out info on a green dragon in a library. I say well you have found a book by the Sage named Pickett.... again. And I let them listen to your videos, now most of us are seasoned players, but it's a cool way to not metagame.
And by the way, campaign is set in a home brew, massive world about 3x the size of Toril where dragons have subjugated people like Mafia crime lords.... kinda...
They're currently wading through a vast desert looking for browns. I might throw this little gem in there.
Thanks for all the videos AJ! And if you don't like the name Sage Pickett, I'll change it to whatever you want lol.

Reminds me of the hyacinth dragon, who collects buckets, or bouquet, as she pronounces it.
Always seeing cows everywhere when traveling with her manservant. She seems scared of dogs, and often annoyed by her spouse, which are often after her gold. She is capable of illusions, but seems to cast it on her own exclusively.
Hyacinth dragons do love tea and biscuits, but only when served in quality china. She's truly the lady of the house, age 93!

If your players complete a difficult quest without a reward, perhaps an overly talkative magic item finds its way into their possession in the night. When they wake up it could explain the Jacinth dragon that hoarded it grew tired of its constant talking.

I like this idea...since I saw your video on the hellfire wyrm I've been thinking about taking a particular dragon species and placing several of it's kind in the heavenly and hellish realms of D&D to generate a similar effect. Now I have my candidate. I'll have Jacinth and Pearl dragons be more populous in my setting and have a researcher interested in draconic physiology get their hands on some eggs of both species, implant them with the were-curse (because dragons that can shape change into different were creatures sounds dope) and scatter them to the planes. I'd do it for the elemental realms too but we already have the cataclysmic dragons for that.

  • @shakescan

I like that they can burrow in sand dunes, turn sand to glass and collapse the (glass) roof releasing tons of sand to bury the party.
Imagine a giant glass chamber that looks like the lair but it's a trap and first the glass columns explode to shards the heavy glass ceiling shatters into sword spear like shards and blinding suffocating dust splinters and worse. Then a mountain of sand plops in immediately. Might as well have a giant fire elemental roll in below melt the whole thing again 😳

A Jacinth Dragon who specializes in enchantment/illusion magic would be a hell of an opponent. You'd be to scared to look at it without fear of being caught up in some fantastic mirage or led astray with some compulsion spell. Even though they're apt at divination spells and run when they need to, I wonder what chance encounters with Blue/Brown/Yellow/Brass Dragons are like? Do they respect or revere them for their rarity, or see them as territorial rivals?

1.) Purple sand? How does that happen?
2.) isn’t that a bit small for a great wyrm, or is that normal for gem dragons?
3.) do they have intersphere/interplanetary communities, or do all of them just know a few handfuls of their kind?
4.) do dragons get divine magic in the same way as other creatures, or is it different since religiosity is rare among dragon kind, like treating it more like a warlock pact?
5.) would one be willing to let someone copy their books if they bring a new addition as an offering, or is it’s rarity part of the value so it would not want more copies?
6.) not that I don’t highly appreciate going through these 2e dragons, there are a lot of good ones and it can be rather hard to dig up info on them normally, but is the Orium dragon still on the list somewhere?

Many believe the purple sand of the Plains of Purple Dust are the leftover pulverized ruins of the mighty towers of Imaskar, reduced to barren desert thanks to the ancient artificer kings battling actual gods until the entire civilisation fled the prime material plane via portals located somewhere in the deep Underdark. The truth is, the purple dust is not native to Toril at all, the entire region was plane shifted and replaced with a chunk of land in one of the more remote outer planes. The ruins of the Imaskari are still out there somewhere....

Given how intelligent most dragons are, if you come into possession of something a dragon values, that they would want add to their horde, is it possible to barter or bribe your way for safe passage through their territory or valuable information or important relic the dragon may possess? I know that most chromatic dragons are never to be trusted and will only speak truthfully if it's advantageous to them or amuses them, but could you barter for something important from a neutral or good aligned dragons? Or is it dependent on the individual personality of the dragon, be they good, evil or neutral?

Considering the Jacinth Dragon's love for knowledge and storing them in books, would the dragon perhaps keep this knowledge in enduring (spell)books? The fireproof quality of the books would help with hasty retreats through the elemental plane of fire, and their quality of not aging is a nice bonus as well, definitely worth the investment.
Another way to solve the flamable book problem for the dragon's own spellbook, if it even requires one, is an Order of Scribes wizard's Awakened Spellbook, where the contents of the spellbook can be transferred to a new one, should the original be lost.

I went to look up Jacinth stone to see how many ways I could make fun of its pronunciation.
Jah' sin' th, .. and as such.
Amusing thing is that the " -th " sound used in words of (that and with/ wif) are not part of the native Italian and German language branches. So a middle eastern or Jewish merchant always had fun listening to Italians trying to pronounce .. jacinth. Then you have the Germans trying to say " Jah or Ja 'yh/Ja'hy -cinth as a cin or cen/sen- f.
Turn out the stone was used to protect the wear from plague, lightning, and strengthen the heart along with a few other things. A question would be with the 4th-level spell Protection from Elements will the Jacinth stone amulet absorb or deflect lightning energy ? Well the spell does says .. absord .. anyway.
But the trick is trying to find the context in desert superstition regarding dry lightning during the wet season or such to desert herders or merchants losing their family tent or camel train during desert crossings.
Since Jacinth dragons share the same environment locations of blue dragons, protection from lightning would really be useful to them. Or the reflecting sunlight from the jacinth gem dragon even .. dazzle .. blue dragons which cause them to admire and flirt with the jacinth and they regard each other as free range pets. Similar to the way humans regards foxes and bob cats living on the exterior sides of city limits.
edit, I have no ideal as to why those sentences where cross out.

Another true, great dragon that certainly because of WotC/ wizkids will take AGES to add and fleshed out to the alredy 5 established Gem dragons. Same for Metallic and Chromatic dragons. The latter by adding old Dragon magazines Yellow coast & salt, Orange sodium chloride & jungle, Purple underdark & energy ( no its NOT the same as deep dragon that one dpews fungi spores etc ), Gray fang and Brown acid & sand dragons, update the stat blocks+lore and their old concept looks to be more true dragon like would be so potentially awesome. The mind boggling inconsistency becauze of "reasons". They can change D&D editions regularily, decadly + minor updates. But to add + 5 more dragons and deepen, establish them more with new starter sets, a HUGE new Draconomicon for 5.5/ 6/ One?? Hah, you wish. Gosh forbid that! Gotta hinder that or reeeealy want to drag heels.. " cant add new chromatics and give the attention deserved becauze TiAMat qUUeen have only 5 heads!! " Well evolve her from queen to empress by some lore-canon reason THEN giving her heads of Yellow, Orange, Purole, Gray and Brown! BAM! Do I have to get a job at WotC in Seattle to get through at them the potential for not only more canon lore for adding + 5 more established/ official dragon types per category ( Gem/ Chromatic/ Metallic)??
Total of 30 established dragons, 10 per category of the main dragon families and also new options for Dragonborns, Half dragons, guard drakes, drake warden and ibe-shan.
Sure make some balance tuning so they are on par with the existing ones, pros/ cons if needed.
Think of the above and win-win for both fans and producers alike.
They get more money outta material, products, merch by doing this and no excuses. Introductionary starter sets, figurines/ statues, books like a FAT new Draconomicon and much more for the upcoming D&D 5.5/6/One.

@@gourdlord3064 Dragon magic is different from mortal magic. A dragon is an inherently magical creature, and they are the direct descendants of gods that are older than most pantheons. As such many true dragon species can cast both arcane and divine spells. Some are even able to cast druidic (primal) magic.
Basically, all true dragons have a sliver of divinity.

      Couple things to keep in mind;
Your exp and class are all your character's total years training and putting the skills to work. By lvl 5 your a folk hero in your 20s. By the time a dragon hits the adult stage it's lived long enough to gain that amount of experience 50 times if my math isn't wrong.
Second. They built different. They are massive lizards. There brains are big, with many wrinkles stewed in old magic that blurs the line of the different kinds. Bc of these factors they have a different relationship with there gods ( that parallels the Halflings religion kinda).
Tldr: they are in born sorcerers that live so long there old reptile gods give them spells too
Like a paliden more then a cleric
      Apologies, I'm weird.

The dragon that is a wizard and cleric that you can't look at directly. Is only interested in eating you and is drawn to a specific gem. That is relatively omniscent. Meaning that seeing jacinth is synonymous with getting gnommed. 👀💎🟠🐉🔮🤤
