Miyazaki and Fromsoftware's underdog story of the past 10+ years is seriously inspiring. They so deserved this.
I was routing for RE2 obviously but I loved the Soulsborne series and the creator so much that I couldn't be mad at this getting GOTY. He finally got recognized for his excellent work.

Control and RE2 blew away Sekiro. Sekiro was too difficult for its own good. Most people I know didnt get through the first hour. Sekiro won because Bloodborne and Dark Souls games were ignored for years. Sekiro did not review as well as Control and RE2.

@@danielearcifa709 no sequel needed but they can make a prequel. Maybe we get to play as isshin back in his prime. One of The things about sekiro that I like is that the game feels like it's been alive before the current timeline we play in. We know there were major events that happened even before sekiro was alive. We hear dialogue of characters talking about old rules of different lands like lady tomoe and her unique but deadlyfighting style. The past is strongly connected to the present in the game so they can just use the past as a dlc.

I had to say that Sekiro has to "click" with you, since Is very different to the Souls Games. I use to HATE play it when ay the begginng but then once you get the flow of the mechanichs, it becomes one of the best experiences ever.

The craziest thing is how Sekiro is just an experimental game for FromSoftware to try out the new combat system before developing their major title which has been revealed as 'Elden Ring'. That explains the recycled bosses, reused maps and limited customization. But despite all its flaws, it still manages to be one of the best action game ever made lol.

@@humanbeing8676 on Steam, like 13% of people have beat the game. Which is actually not that bad. It took me a while to finally commit and beat it. Now I’ve done several runs of the game going for all endings.
Once the game “clicks” you can definitely beat the game by just not giving up. I’m not the best gamer to be perfectly honest, and I had 4 bosses that took me around 20-30 tries or more. For a lot of people it will take less than that.
And that’s actually not bad at all if you think about it, it’s a couple hours at most of trying. You just have to not give up and you will start enjoying the learning process of getting spanked and the feeling of finally overcoming something that seemed impossible.

Sekiro is easily one of the best games I’ve had the joy of playing. I beat the game and instantly grinded the achievements I could and started a ng+ playing with the demon bell and no kuros charm. Honestly don’t know if I’ll be able to get through it but wish me luck boys.

@@horizon_warrior2799 A good amount of tries! I mainly died a lot to Great Shinobi Owl and Sword Saint Isshin. Guardian Ape wasn't too terrible for me, neither was Demon of Hatred.
Also, the main thing that will probably get you killed is having less posture because of no Kuro charm. One mistimed block could break posture and spell death!

Idk why some people are upset, sekiro was a great game and so are the other nominated games but sekiro was totally the best imo. great art design, top notch animation work and beautiful graphics ( i played on PC ) rewarding and challenging combat coupled with some great enemy variety. its an amazing game congrats to Formsoft!

I agree and I loved Sekiro and I am glad it took the title for game of the year it deserves it. Question to you good sir why you seems care too much about visual and graphics? you do know graphics is not the most important thing to make a game a masterpiece yes? gameplay is the most important aspect of a video game and being polish and bugs free is another important aspect. what i like the most about sekiro is how realistic sword combat is, the clashing of the swords until one loses focus/composure and one mistake costs his death, JUST LIKE REAL LIFE!
Although Sekiro is not my favorite game directed by Miyazaki (it's still one of the best games I've ever played game), he definitely deserves a Game of the Year Award and I am insanely happy that he won. He truly deserves this.

@水島雄大 I think that makes perfect sense, Sekiro didnt work for me as much initially because, if we view these games as Action-RPGs, Sekiro is much more "action" and Dark Souls/Bloodborne much more "RPG". Also reminds me of how many people just couldn't get into the gameplay of Dark Souls, and then they played Bloodborne and the system clicked for them. I'm not saying the same will happen for you, but rather it shows that the teams that make these games can still make this formula unique.

I honestly think Miyazaki has surpassed all other game designers. Only one I would consider in contention is Icefrog - but DotA2 is a completely different type of game and different genre. If we're talking about single player only - you can see the evolution of Miyazaki's games from demon's souls > dark souls > bloodborne > sekiro, each new title has offered something different while still retaining the core essence of Fromsoft games which have now achieved cult status among the hardcore gamer community. And not only as a series of games, but by becoming a separate genre altogether. The feeling of accomplishment you get after beating these games is something that very few games designers can achieve. It's games like these that cement the notion of gaming as a true art form. Miyazaki is a true genius and master game designer and we are lucky to be alive in an era when he is making games.

I actually missed playing this game on launch day, I bought it on the launch day for PC and basically went closed door gaming until I beat this game. The combat in this game is something I love, even after playing Dark Souls and Bloodborne. The one award I wished it would also win for was art direction, the amount of times I was in awe of the locations I went in. Still Game of the Year for a Fromsoft game I will take it anyday. It was a long time coming, Miyazaki is a God, I remember this game very clearly for its design and combat. The game is fun and thrilling.

With the reviews that just released today, no doubt.
Im so happy this game won GOTY. I am currently on NG+7 and I still cant get enough of it. It truly is an amazing game. Too bad that so many people gave up on this game and resorted to bad mouthing it just because it was challenging.
Sekiro was the very first Fromsoft game I've played, and yeah it was difficult at first especially early game, but once I got used to the combat and everything, the game started getting better and better after that, that after I beat it, I went back and played it again in NG+ thats how great this game is. And now I also beat Dark Souls 3 and I'm currently playing Bloodborne.
I recommend you to play the original Dark souls, as cluncky as it is,this game still have some blowing mind moment once you found it(especially about how the world connected)

@@gelothegogang yes the first one maybe a bit harder(or to be exact unforgiving), just remember it has more clunkier movement. And yes ,you maybe can try DS2 but you can skip it.

@@gelothegogang I would highly recommend playing DS1, it's an AMAZING game and i found it kind of easier than DS3... I started with DS3 then Sekiro then DS1. Maybe the saying your first souls experience is your hardest is true. Oh, and i'm currently playing through DS2, it's not the best game obviously BUT it's not a terrible game as some may say imo, it will take you some time to get used to it, and the hitboxes could be annoying at times, but i'm still having fun playing it and i think it deserves a try. That being said, so far DS2 is my least favorite FromSoft game and Sekiro is my favorite.
P.S. I never played Bloodborne since it never came to PC. But hopefully one day.... :(

(NG+8) Most of the time when we play a single player game we look for things that invokes our emotion and makes us feel something while giving us a small goal. To have fun and enjoying the game is what we seek in video games in general. Sekiro how ever completely changed me as a person for better. Made me humble and taught me patience. Probably the best single player game i have ever played. I hope From Software keeps creating more master piece such as their DS series and games like Sekiro.

Nah it doesnt need a dlc. Just like God of war 2018,its actually a complete game without any patches or day 1 updates etc. And guess what? both games won game of the year. Just wait for elden ring with patience.

I didn't play Death Stranding and I was expecting it to get the GOTY to be honest, but they really surprised me when Sekiro won, I am really happy for them.

I was fully expecting Death Stranding to win without even playing it, I had my hopes that Sekiro would get it but they were very low. When Vin said Sekiro I jumped with joy, amazing game.
I haven't said this sincerely since Ocarina of Time but Sekiro is the best game I've ever played.
