I have a contradiction about your jas is the wizards daughter because it said that Shane was friends of jas's parents and there are no hints to Shane even knowing who the wizard is
I have such a soft spot for Linus because of one incredibly specific situation in my childhood, where my neighbors decided to allow a homeless veteran to camp out in front of their apartment. It became sort of a ritual for my brother and I to bring leftover food from the cafeteria to him after school. And in return, he’d tell us stories about the army or his living arrangement as an unhoused person. Eventually the landlord caught on and he was asked to leave, and I lost touch with him after that. I doubt he’s alive now, but I never forgot him.
I never thought if this theory before, it does make sense to me, Linus is very knowledgeable about many things and the way he speaks and acts does show a lot of humility, patience and a sense of respect and integration with nature, instead of taking from it, as if he's learned a lesson during his own journeys throughout the world. I'll always love Linus, he's always the first resident I become friends with and I'm not even gonna elaborate on his dilf effect (can't help myself hehehehe). Loved the video!
huhhhh, I wouldn't have expected Linus to dislike the Pirate egg since he does 'speak' in the same squawks during the Leo cutscene where he offers to help mentor him should he move to Pellican Town. It does seem like there might be a pattern to his dislikes there.
I still have the take that Linus was involved with M. Jaspar and Mona, and that the three mimic the story given through the dnd session Sebastian hosts. I watched a video on this a while back and it stuck with me. Linus disliking the chest, which can be surmised as loot adventurers obtain through places like the mines, makes sense because he could see that chest and remember Mona's trivial death because of them seeking treasure (chest filled with loot) and his feeling of responsibility in her death. The pirate theory is also very interesting and solid EDIT: And I hope its the pirate theory that's cannon, because the adventurer theory is deeply depressing and I don't want Linus to suffer bearing the weight of regret
This is awesome, I dig it. What if.....we all know Linus hangs out in the mines to revive us (steal our open cans of soup we keep in our pockets). He hangs out in dangerous places, could be he has more ties to the adventurers guild and protection of the valley which might also mean pirate hunter if needed. One day he had enough fighting, found some leaves and made himself some camo lulu lemon leggings and dropped off the grid.
Something to note, you can make a Witch's Hat from the Golden Pumpkin, and Linus is considered an "Old Friend." So maybe the reason he likes the Gold Pumpkin is because it's valuable to magic users, and Linus sees the importance behind it over its monetary gain.
I caught an iridium carp right before my first luau and thought “fish is good in a stew and it’s my highest quality item, surely they’ll like it” they did not, in fact, like it
@@schwingedeshaehers agreed , most likely Linus was just a sailor , his ship probably was attacked by pirates , and after that he might lost his job or even a ship .
I was going to joke that Linus is actually Captain Barbosa when you read his line about money being cursed but actually I buy the theory that he used to be a pirate it makes a lot of sense
The theory that Linus might've worked at Joja mart is kinda interesting. It instantly makes me think of petticoat junction. It's a show from the sixties, I think more people would be familiar with the spin off Green Acres. The only instance I can think of seeing petticoat junction referenced is an episode of that 70's show where they're obviously watching it based on the dialogue. But that's not the point, the point is the entire show is based around this old train called the cannon ball. It's very important to this small community and it's a huge source of local pride. But then the railroad company that owns it sorta remember it exists and decide to shut it down because it's not bringing in enough money. So the CEO sends a man out to see this happens. They foil his scheme and he's sent packing. Eventually the CEO decides to go take care of it himself but decides to go undercover as a hobo. Only it turns out he messed up, he doesn't have any money with him, and without money he doesn't have any way to contact the office. So he ends up effectively being an actual hobo while he's there. And kate, she's like the main character, takes him in, treats him to small town hospitality in its purest form and he falls in love with the place. He loves the town, loves the people, and most importantly loves the cannon ball. He was like instantly one of my favorite reoccurring characters. There's also like a really cute romance between him and Kate. Nothing really seems to come of it though. But dang if I don't ship it. A backstory similar to that for Linus could be really interesting. Maybe he was an upper level manager at Joja Mart and at some point he broke under the pressure and retreated into nature wanting to live a simpler life. I'll have to admit though, the pirate theory sounds more fun.
That tv show sounds lovely!! I actually really like the idea of Linus being an ex-Joja Mart employee, maybe even a big shot like upper management, like you said, because it'd really make the overencompassing threat of Joja Mart that more significant, and he'd be yet another character in Pelican Town that's so strongly affected by Joja Mart and their exploitation.
@@sodorart it is, after I commented I looked it up here on RUclips because I was fixin' to listen to the theme song. Turns out there's a big playlist with all the episodes. Colorized too, I've only ever seen it in black and white. So I'm rewatching it :3 It definitely would expand on Joja marts influence. I wonder if they're going to make another appearance in haunted chocolatier. Maybe as a rival seller. The commentary on big business is such an interesting aspect of the wider world building. I'd love to see concerned ape expand on it even more in the next game.
I think Linus still liking diamonds and prismatic shards tracks with his more druidic life style, his enjoyment of these gems could stem from their magical properties or a more philosophical point of view. The pumpkin is a bit of an oddity but it was most likely placed in the chest during Halloween by the wizard who we see Linus chilling with during the festival, there might be some significant magic used to make the pumpkin or something we can't really perceive about it that Linus and the Wizard might be able to. Still, neat theory I never considered linus as a pirate, it makes me want to see if he has any unique reactions to the trinkets you collect during Birdie's quest.
@@sodorart np, another character worth looking at might be Kent, his hate dialogue is quite specific and his list of hates is wilder still given that context
Interesting theory, and I'm also curious about: Linus and Leo. Leo was in a shipwreck and he floated to Ginger Island and lived with the birds right? So I wonder if Linus knew anything about that shipwreck and then felt the need to help Leo to move to Pelican Town and help him to get settled in? So what if that shipwreck, Linus was the witness of and decided to give up the pirate life cus he didn't think it was worth the risk of people dying? Other one of Linus' dialogue, something about there's so much to life and that we got to see it for ourselves, so it definitely implies all of the weirdness in Stardew Valley like Ginger Island, the monsters in the mine, the pirates in the cove in Ginger Island (Linus's former crew perhaps??) so Linus definitely have encountered all kind of dangers and Ferngill looks like a very small state and there's so much sea around those islands so definitely likely he travelled by ship. I love this theory, great job, I love Linus, one of my favourites. I always make an effort to befriends Linus, Shane and Gus! Love Gus cus he take care of Linus too after Linus' 2 hearts event.
Your theory on Linus is really interesting & I think could be mixed in with another theory I liked that I found in someone else's video. The idea also has to do with something I mentioned in your video defending Pierre. I don't remember everything but the idea is that Linus was an adventurer that went on adventures with the wizard(given Linus hangs out with the wizard or near his place during certain festivals & calls him old friend) & the mysterious M. Jasper which is why he's fine with living in the wild savaging for food/supplies. The idea also implies M. Jasper's first name is Mona whose name is on one of the town's grave stones(Our beloved Mona) with the idea that she was an adventure that died in the mines which might partly be why Pierre is worried about Abigail being an adventurer.(Though admittedly it's also like you said he's a worried parent & why is she in the grave yard late at night?) I forget if this was from the video but it was likely my own add on but Mona Jasper's death & the fact the wizard & Linus were close with her likely made past townsfolk hesitant to be around Linus.(Why he admits not many people like him when the current townsfolk seem to not mind him very much even if they find him weird) With your idea of Linus being an ex-pirate captain I kind of imagine a theory that he was a pirate adventurer that ended up friends with the wizard & M Jasper/Mona when he ended up in Stardew Valley. He possibly went on adventures with the two & something happened that led to Mona dying, that incident or another one led to him possibly retiring from his pirate life as well as choosing to stay in the valley for a long time.(Since he makes a comment in the video that he might leave to travel again at some point)
I always thought Linus was an ex-adventurer--so a pirate lines up for me. I'm pretty sure I thought this because of some of the things he said, his friendship with the wizard and even actions. Not to mention the way he is paranoid around people, distrustful and comes up with wild conclusions. It fits with the whole dislike for his potentially old ways. As if he was wronged in pirate/adventure life or maybe got a bit corrupted himself. Thus, realizing if he can be pulled into a darker side of him that everyone else is also too potentially shady to give a chance.
