I'm 63 years old and just recently found out about paprika being ground bell pepper!! I really thought it was from a "paprika plant"!!! Love watching you guys!!
Not sure if I missed that in the video, but I appreciate that information. That's a huge one. Off of that I just learned that chili powder is not simply ground up peppers. :)
😂😂😂😂 well, you're telling me coz dii know
Never stop doing the intro where you guys come from off screen just laughing, it's good every time lol. To share my personal style here in zone 7b. I only sew squash and green beans directly in the soil in late May. Starting earlier in seed trays and then transplanting just never gives me the advantage I am hoping for so those are two veggies where the seeds go right in the ground. My exotic pepper for the season is the Scotch Bonnet pepper, I love some Jamaican food so looking forward to having authentic peppers so I can stop using habaneros as a substitute.
100% Love the laughter - it’s contagious! 😆 You guys never fail to make me smile
OMG, I was literally just going to say this!
Heavy Agree. Its just good, clean fun.
Xin chào ❤❤❤
I wish they could all start that way, makes me happy every time!
I'm Hungarian, an paprika really just means pepper in Hungarian 😅 We have smoked paprika powder too, but it s actually a type of pepper usually from the Szeged area, that is used for drying and making paprika powder.
Smoked paprika powder is such a gem. I don't think I have felt more real love for food than when I discovered smoked paprika powder. Paprika is also Dutch for pepper 😊
@@fishndchick2228the first time I heard someone speak Dutch I thought it was just a really drunk German.
@@magnumxlpi pretty accurate description, not gonna lie.
That laughing intro..... I look forward to it every time
Also, totally agree with growing fancy colored bell peppers. They aren't cheap in the store, compared to seed packet prices. I'm growing the purple ones.
I love growing the purple beauties and everyone is always surprised to see a pepper that color. I like putting them in pasta salad.
Yes! Even at aldi it’s 2.50-3$ for 3 non-green bell peppers.
Yes, bell peppers are expensive where I live. 1.50 for 1 green, 2.00 for 1 red, and 2.50 for 1 yellow/orange
Xin chào ❤❤
There is no such thing as "fancy colored" bell peppers. The colors are stages of ripeness. Green - not ripe, to yellow, orange and red, which is the actual ripe pepper. It's a marketing thing to dish out as much produce as possible before the season...
Also, I just learned that you can overwinter your peppers! You don't to start them from seed every season! Same as eggplants. I know random, but it's a game changer, lol.
Chartreuse is a herbal liquor. It's a grassy green color, so the word also refers to this green hue. The liquor is made by the Chartreux monks, who were so named because of where the first Chartreux monastery was founded.
I am really behind on starting seeds this year, so I am really encouraged to see you guys starting seeds now haha
Same!!
Same!!! I’m new to all of this so I just bought young plants from the store, but now I may try and start a few!
We are now a club
I love watching you two together, you are like an old married couple, so comfy and funny yet you teach me so much. I even just watch you when I know all about what your doing because you make me so happy. Crazy, but it’s how I feel. 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
Anyone else want that chimichurry (sp?) recipe with parsley and cilantro?
Let's goo I got my seeds out too, let's go Boyz growing my 1st yellow watermelon
Jacques and Kevin, you are both right about Chartreuse. It is a French liquor made by monks, from a mix of herbs. And it has the green color that is referred as chartreuse. By the way. you guys are hilarious. as always. Keep it up!
Oh that's good to know!!
yup. also this is random but their is a restaurant in Detroit called chartreuse and they serve the liquor its not bad!, im a chef and i can honestly say it was one the best meals ive ever had
My father-in-law grew Peter peppers exclusively in his tiny side yard garden. (No other peppers needed, in his opinion!) It was the only pepper he grew. He also grew various tomatoes, basil & whatever exotic fruits that he found in the local China Town. He was surprisingly successful in growing papayas, mangos or whatever he tried to germinate from seed. My dad gave him a rooted fig cutting, which ended up growing so lushly that he froze quarts & quarts of fig preserves. (EVERY YEAR...) His compost pile was famous for germinating whatever seeds of food scraps that he threw on the compost pile. (Strawberries!!!) He had an unbelievable green/gold thumb for small space gardening. I miss him...
Capsicum Chinense were named so by an explorer due to how much they were used in Chinese cuisine; however, they likely originated in Peru or Ecuador, like all peppers.
The peter pepper....it speaks for itself, lol. Great content as always guys!
I’d love to grow the Peter pepper. Where can we get the seeds?
I love both your channels, but together you crack me up 😂
I started my first round of summer plantings a few days ago! Beans, cucumbers, okra, squash. I've had my peppers and tomatoes growing indoors for over a month. It makes me so happy that warm weather and seed starting has finally come back around. I was done with winter weather. I say with ping pong ball sized hail and severe thunderstorms currently rolling through my area 😅😅
Omaha area?
@@Charlie-sh2du No, southern Missouri!
Shout out to some great adult humor guys. Thank you for the authentication. Thumbs up.
I am all about peppers 🌶️🫑 and winter squash. Now that my permaculture is set,. Let's have some fun!!!🪻🪷🌼🌷🌸🌹
I agree with Sally below! You guys make me so happy too! 🙏🏼😄🙏🏼😄🙏🏼😄🙏🏼
Apparently chartreuse was originally a liqueur from a monastery in France? It was that bright green colour, so it got carried over into our modern English from that
Was thinking that they are starting the chilies way too late in the season, then remembered that they live in basically a tropical paradise
It would be great if you offered cheongyang chile peppers! They’re beautiful, simple peppers used a lot in Korean cooking. Seeds are surprisingly hard to find for some reason
For those who really wish they had an old library organizer like that, just look up "parts organizer" and it's close enough 🤷♂️ I really want one now to organize seeds.
You two are such fun. More fun than any of the other gardening channels
Happy seeding with vegetables and flowers
You two are hilarious 🤣. Keep it coming!!!
u guys never fail to put a smile on my face lol
I've hoarded so much Epic knowledge over the years, I'm hoping this year I can put it to use with my first proper growing season in my first proper garden! I'm in the north of England, attempting to grow watermelons 😅 supermarkets here are noticeably struggling with 'basic' fruit and veg, especially peppers, so most things will have to come from my own garden here on out! Wish me luck 👍Thanks for all the engaging content, for plants both indoors and out! (Glad to see Bobca making a sneak appearance in the Beetroot vid 💛)
Speaking of versatility in the kitchen, you should try growing a round squash like ronde de nice which can be stuffed with a HUGE variety of recipes or prepared like any other squash
My face when the Peter pepper popped up on screen. 😂 we’re all adults here right?
Baker creek sells peppers that are used to dry into paprika! I'm growing two of them--letschauer which is a Hungarian variety and txorixero which originates from basque country!
I wish I had a friendship like you guys! It’s awesome to see the camaraderie!!
Australia bell peppers are called 'Capsicums'. Peppers here are long large peppers, usually a pale lemon yellow colour, that are quite sweet and flavoursome, but have seeds that are a little spicy hot. Chillies are small hot peppers, and are smaller. Thank you for the interesting seed haul and planting.
Thanks guys... Doing more seeds this weekend, so now I've got my Botanical Interest shopping list ready to go. Cheers!
I’m so jealous! I’ve always wanted an old library catalog! That’s exactly what I want to do with my seeds!
Bell peppers are like $14 per kg in Australia so yes it's good to grow them 😅
Meanwhile in Minnesota it's finally time to start spring direct sowing haha, what a difference growing zones make.
My cucumbers, and all but two of my peppers, are from Botanical Interest. I have had great germination and an abundant harvest each year.
So glad to hear. Appreciate you ordering from us :)
About to embark on my own take of "urban homesteading" as much as I can in a condensed suburban area. Creating a garden I can provide from is the start and these videos are sooo helpful!!
I just started a couple of melons and a white cucumber today!!! Tomorrow when I get my EPIC 6-CELL TRAYS I’m going to start my San Marzano and Sun Gold cherry tommys! It’s the most wonderful time of the year!!!!
I love hand tool rescue. Didnt know he was into gardening.
Yes b!tch!!! Love the intro laugh 😅😂. Great segment guys!
I find celery hardest to germinate. They took 6 weeks this winter!! I was so glad i started them in February.
I love to plant Summer Savory with my Blue Lake beans!! They do so well with the herb.
One of my friends made smoked Butch Trinidad Scorpion powder once. It had amazing flavour before punching you with a lot of heat. Was really good in curries.
So, I'd recommend smoking your chillies, dehydrating them, and then grinding them into a powder.
Thank you for making these videos! This is one of my new favorite channels now! I thing this will help me in my future gardening.
When we were in Romania twenty years ago, we wanted to get “authentic Hungarian paprika”, our host showed us at least twelve different types, lol! He said that it is as diverse as types of bread.
I am glad you mentioned waiting for the orange bell pepper to turn orange because most retail shoppers have no idea that a green bell is just an unripe pepper and if left on the plant, it will ripen to another color. Customers are very reluctant to believe me when I tell them that, and are afraid to waste their garden space on a green bell and will insist on continuing to look for a RED bell.
Loved this video! You guys crack me up. Never stop having fun with gardening
Just planted orange sun, Thai Chiles, shishito chiles and golden cal wonder in a vertical tower system. My orange sun and shishito have sprouted, but I'm still waiting on my Thai Chiles and the golden cal wonder. Should be a good year for peppers!
I watch you guys all the time!
My garden gets better & better each year.
Epic!
The most unique and special pepper powder I've discovered so far is the habanada. The pepper is tasty just to to eat but as a powder...man, it's just so good. Would be happy to mail you a sample from last year's batch! Could include some other unique ones as well.
A heatless habanero?? Has science gone too far?
Sounds delicious!
Kevin, excited to hear about the food you come up with from garden fresh ingredients.
just got my garden set up! nothing beats the summer season
Should do a series on the cucumbers, would be interested to see it in a bag with a make shift treassle
Aww Kevin going to save the bell peppers for Jacque! The BEST friendship!! Y'all are awesome!
I'm still out here boring my husband to death until I find my gardening friend!
Girl, same! My husband gets so tired of hearing about my plants!
@@adigmon haha same!!! He's Soo patient but he is a construction guy, that lives to blacksmith- he doesn't understand why I love such fragile things or why I plant them right in the way of our porches 🤣😂 he will once we have all our veggies rolling in!!
That Peter Pepper Joke was perfect!! 😂😂
I am definitely with jaqu I have some herbs some peppers some cucumbers tomatoes and a few types of flowers
My botanical interests seeds were supposed to be delivered today, mailman came while I was watching this and I was excited to plant them... turns out they're delayed until tomorrow 😢
That one got a thumbs up for the Peter pepper joke alone!! 🤣
Oh you are going to LOVE the Tetra Dill, it's beautiful
In my language peppers are called "paprika" and the powdered spice is called "paprika" or "paprika gewürz" bell pepper spice.
With other words I just listened to a whole lot "bell pepper (spice) is made out of bell pepper" xD
I love it.
us dutchies (netherlands) call a bell pepper a paprika and the powder , powdered paprika , got som paprika (bellpepper) seeds going to put them in mulch pots they feed the soil too
Love watching you both sow seeds. I learn so much about varieties I am unfamiliar with. Thank you !
This is why I ended up with twice as much pepper as I was planning originally…learned my lesson and I will be more patient with peppers in the future lol
I switched this year from plastic tags to jumbo popsicle sticks, and using a non-toxic paint marker to label them. I find it's working really well, the sticks usually break down by the end of the season but since they're just wood, I don't worry about them too much.
I'm also growing purple beauty too! I've done it before and it did great compared to other bells like Cali wonder. Fortunately cilantro and dill don't bolt very fast in my climate zone 4b and cucumber can survive the entire season too. I'm super jealous of your pepper collection though 🥵
Greetings from New Zealand. There is actually a variety of sweet pepper called Alma Paprika grown specifically for drying and grinding into paprika. It is one of the varieties I grow.
As far as zucchini that aren't standard or boring goes, have you tried Rampicante?
I just planted some mad hatter peppers because I heard they were tasty, and I thought they looked funny, I also started a bunch of tomato seeds, I'm hoping it all works out, I've never really had a successful garden before, except for swiss chard
Oh wow! I’m so glad I listened to the very end! I didn’t realize their company is Botanical Interests! I love their seeds and have a bunch of them. The artwork in them is gorgeous and the variety of unusual stuff they offer is so fun! Keep up the good work!
Seconding the motion to make your own paprika. I've wanted to try for quite a while.
I'm zone 8a. I'm glad to know I haven't waited too late this season to start my herb seeds. Thanks!!
You guys are so funny. I love your introductions. It just makes me laugh and puts a big smile on my face :0)
I love seed starting videos
Bright lights are my fav cosmos!
Nice to see what you grow for yourself. Sometimes people grow what they think they’re supposed to grow and end up with too much of things their families won’t eat.
These are my favorite videos 😁
I am also growing Senora zinnia, Santaka & buena mulata peppers
Getting a little risque with this one, boys.
I dig it.
I like the chocolate or purple bell peppers to grow because they are fun.
Parker is one of my favorite peppers to cook with. Grew it last year (BI seed) and used it to make NM green sauce.
Perfect timing guys, I'm having to resow my flowers and some of my veggies seeds. I'm from Texas, Southwest Texas and we've been getting rain, but yesterday we got slammed and I mean slam really hard. Some of my tomatoes and peppers got decimated from the rain and the hail that decided to join the party. My front tree lost some branches( I can live with that). But not my veggies or flowers. I'm gonna have to go to my local nursery and get more seeds and maybe transplants( if they have any left), Happy gardening Kevin and Jacques. Hopefully your jailbird chicken is out of jail.
My mom usually plants different varieties and throws them randomly, she usually forgets what she plants. I feel like I wanna be cheeky and plant some Peter peppers just to see her reaction 😂
You got some exciting seed starts, guys. I am planting Thai chili and Ghanaian garden eggs - first-time veggie planting. I know some people say something is a pain to grow, so buy it at the store, but if you have the land, you can control how the planting process was from start to finish and where it came from; why wouldn't you grow regardless of the "pain"? Take it as a learning challenge, learn from your mistakes, and try to grow it!
That Thai chili is no joke 🥵
Then I am looking forward to it! 😁 I have a pretty high spice tolerance. I like eating scotch bonnet in my fried eggs in the morning. Supposedly Thai Chili is not as hot, but we shall see.
You make me want to grow all these seeds. Thanks for the tips on growing and taste. Always fun🌱
B.I. Tetra Dill ROCKS !!!!! Love it so much!
Glad to hear!
Summer is already here in the desert states
Jalafuego is my Favorite jalapeño. It is a hot jalapeño, taste great. Produces tons of peppers. One of my plants is 3 years old and it overwinter’s beautifully.
Such a Fun video. I am more focused on Herbs, Tomatoes, Strawberrries, Bulb flowers, Natives & Pollinators this year. 2 out of 3 of my peppers started by seed late last summer made it through fall/winter outside in a pot with companions and are starting to thrive 🎉
yep, paprika is pepper in hungarian. and its not made from bell peppers :) there are special hungarian peppers for that. of course, you can make it from any pepper, but the famous paprika is not from that :D
Loved this video! I enjoy how you and Jacque banter back and forth and your different styles. I also take away tips on how you plant and why you choose certain varieties. I’m up in MN so our weather is way different but still so much applies.
Great video guys. Paprika in Croatian literally means Pepper 😊
Literally was wondering when this video would come out! lol. My fav.
Cilantro is my nemesis it always bolts. ARG!
When life gives you bolted cilantro… make coriander!! 😁
The same thing always happens to me & that’s why I just grow it now for the coriander seeds
There is your Next Epic Garden Video Jaque Making Paprika from My Epic Peppers
I'm in 8b and I have some ghost peppers & jalapeno peppers growing now like 4wks old. Can't wait for the flavor. But some of what y'all are growing but I'm so intrigued. So keep up the amazing work 👍👍
Thanks guys. I just ordered Orange Sun pepper.
Here in South East Asia we also eat the pepper leaves. They're delicious.
I have some Santaka, lemon spice jalapeños, & Thai hot peppers that recently sprouted. Can’t wait
I had peppers that germinated last year and I saved the seed from 2012. It took weeks but germinated
On the opposite coast here in Annapolis, MD. We have the hot, humid summers but not nearly the same length of growing season as California (yet- climate change is working on that). My issue is shade due to tree cover, so little by little I am working on creating "high shade" (limbing up surrounding canopy) to increase yield.
I’m in the Annapolis area as well!
Got my Botanical Interest seeds this morning!!(through your link of course) Here in 7a, 6900ft, we're expecting another frost until mother's day, so my babies are safe in their pots in a sunny window with a night light, until then. Except the mesclun packets, which are stout enough to start outside and the alpine strawberries which B.I. recommends to start in winter.
You don't have to use the link, he owns the company lol. Great seeds though I have been getting them from pyke for a while before he owned the company
i never know what to grow in summer so this was perfect!!! definitely gonna get the spacemaster 80
