Yes it’s a nice town , but some of the modern buildings just don’t fit in with the rest . Were the architects blind or completely insensitive to beauty and harmony? It is possible to build modern buildings which are both fonctional and beautiful… I often go in holiday to Germany , and find that in general the Germans have done this much better than the British !
After the Second World War when most of towns abd cities were flattened and only a few buildings left. They didn’t have the money or the resources to rebuild exactly what it was previously like. Hence those buildings next to Victorian or Elizabethan buildings are about 70 years old or less. That’s why they don’t look as nice because of cost after ww2.
@@wigans37 That is not completely correct . Sure , a lot of buildings were destroyed in the war in some towns ( but not all) , but it is a fact that many good buildings were quite simply torn down after the war .However , none of this is a good argument for ugliness and an astonishing lack of taste from some architects . For example , right in the middle of Shrewsbury is a horrible looking modern building, which completely ruins the view of the center . Again IT IS POSSIBLE TO DESIGN MODERN AND BEAUTIFUL BUILDINGS , with all the necessary modern fittings we would expect today . There are many examples of this is the world , and the city of Shrewsbury should wake up to this !

Clearly didn’t go to most places in Shrewsbury where there’s street drinkers and smackheads then. Must of only wondered around the tourist bits.
