The thing I remember Goole for was going for a curry about 40 years ago, sat in the restaurant ordered a curry, ordered the rice and a side dish. It came in a bowl, not separate servings but in a bowl all mixed together ?? I gathered Goole was a bit behind the rest of the country in etiquette?
We moved to the east riding about seven years ago , we loved goole from the first visit ,and your comment on feeling at home Is how we both felt everyone so friendly just a nice place tbeand shop.😊
Hats off to you for showcasing our little town. 👍🏼 A couple of minor discrepancies though. Unless I am mistaken, KwikFit is actually on the site of the old Rainbow garage, and the Chapellow's newsagents was next door to Iceland, to the left. I stand to be corrected of course ☺️
I was waiting for you to say that Goole is where the factory is that makes trains for the Underground just near where you were standing next to the motorway the new Glassworks factory and Seemans factory that makes the trains.
I was always led to believe that Rainbow Ford was where stoneacre is now? I do know, as I was one of the students that went there, that before it became Delta and after Vermuyden. it was Goole High School
Rainbow i used to work for and was on boothferry road opposite Motosave. It was over 3 floors, the body shop at the top. The building was completely demolished. And Motisave (before my time) was also a car dealership selling Wolseley cars. The company was Cornelius Parish. The door handles for Motosave was, and might still be, in the shape of 2 letters C P
What is now Morrisons was a flour mill E Timms & Sons not a bakery, which was in the same family for over 150 years if you lived hear you would know that.

Ha ha. Or that restaurant couldn't be bothered with washing too many pots 😄
I worked for a long time on and off at Goole. Mainly property repairs so been most places always enjoyed working there. Some lovely old buildings.
