  • An animated past vs present look at the lost Midland and Great Northern Joint Railway line that ran from Melton Constable to Holt & onwards to Sheringham! (Including the popular North Norfolk Railway). #meltonconstable #holt #norfolk #railway #sheringham
Construction began in April 1883 and later that year the rails had reached Holt, five miles from Melton Constable, but work on the station and yard did not begin until much later. Holt was to remain the line's northern terminus and only station until 1887 when it finally reached Cromer.

In late wartime I travelled on this line west from MC to East Rudham, where the station is still visible. We were met by horse and trap to take us to our destination. My sole memory of the journey is the train steaming in from the east.

Great video. One of my friends here in Sheffield often visits that part of Norfolk on holiday, especially Sheringham. Will be definitely sharing it on to them pretty promptly.
