I always loved this anime! It's premise is old but perfect for story telling! The ending always made me feel feelings every time! Fyi, I believe it originally aired on Showtime Beyond on their midnight block of anime in the late 90s.
Anime that you caught once on tv late at night...that's how I found Black Magic M-66 and I'm pretty sure I saw this movie on the sci-fi channel one night o_O
Same here, I remember seeing this late, late at night on the Sci-Fi Channel 10 years or so ago, it has become rather obscure. Until just recently, this was just a fuzzy memory.
Ferngully at least had Robin Williams rapping and Tim Curry singing about pollution like he wants to fuck it. EYES of Mars is at least one step lower than Ferngully.
I thought this anime was going to end with Eve and that "dude" guy making it to earth and becoming the Biblical Adam and Eve. (That's the only way this would have become even more hackneyed and ham-fisted.)
This is one of the first anime movies I believe I ever watched when it was on scifi channel in it's golden age(when it had an adult anime block and showed actually big budget classics). This vid reminds me of the heyday of tv in my childhood during the late 90s. I remember the ending being really melancholy. This and Galaxy Express on the same block of programming. Bennett may not like this type of stuff but it got a whole lot of kids into anime at that time.
I remember this from way back in the 90s, and it was played on the one (and only) station that played Obscure Anime. The Sci-Fi Channel! Managed to catch this on an early morning run, and was captivated by it. Glad you did this Review sage.
Am I getting this right. This is an anime....from Japan. Made in JAPAN!!! That is saying that technology is not the answer to everything? THE JAPANESE ARE SAYING THAT TECHNOLOGY IS NOT THE ANSWER TO EVERYTHING!!!!!!? Just think about that for a second.
+SnowHawk7 Japan is not as technologically advanced as we like to believe or think. A number of companies in fact still use older machines and such. Those robots and such you see from them? Its just a show for them, much as it would be here. And to be fair, as heavy handed as it was, it was more of a message against over reliance on technology since, that is a problem that often gets ignored. Its not bad that we use technology, its bad if we become so reliant on it that we can't function. I mean, take someone out of a environment rich in technology and put them in a area with out it and see how they function. The difference is quite staggering.
